COMMITTEE:
“Juneteenth” or the 19th of June is the date slavery ended in America. General Gordon
Granger traveled to Galveston, Texas to read General Order No. 3, June 19, 1865. This was
two and one-half years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation
Proclamation. Juneteenth is now recognized as a Local, State, and National Observance
Holiday.


Keeping the Juneteenth Celebration activities FREE and open to the public is critical to our
mission. Each year around June 19th, this event brings together young people, teenagers,
young adults, adults and senior citizens for a day of activities, entertainment, music and
great food.
