2015 Horse Show Rules
The Lincoln County Fair, Inc. and/or all affiliates are not responsible or liable for any injury, damages, theft or
losses sustained in any way to exhibitors, volunteers, horses or property.
GENERAL RULES
1. Current Negative Coggins and/or out-of-state health papers are required for all horses showing or entering the Lincoln County Fairgrounds for all show events.
2. GATE FEE - 2 free passes per horse in pull vehicle, all others must pay regular gate fee. Because of limited
parking, we ask that only vehicles pulling horse trailers enter parking area & that you park according to
directions provided at fairgrounds.
3. All horses will be properly controlled at all times, both in and out of the arena, and will not be ridden to
the endangerment of anyone and should be properly trained for the classes entered. Any unsportsman like
conduct or mistreatment of any animal will result in disqualification and forfeiture of all entries and will
be asked to leave the fairgrounds.
4. All entry forms must be signed. Youth forms must be signed by the parent or guardian - who must remain present on show grounds during the entire show. Entry Form on Page 96.
5. Any protests arising during the show shall be presented in writing the day of the show, along with $50.00
to the Show Chairperson who will present the protest to the Show Committee. The Committee will then
render a decision by majority vote of those committee members present. The $50.00 will be held. ALL
DECISIONS ARE FINAL!
6. Proper attire is required for ALL classes, Western, English, Gaited and Speed
7. Classes close one class prior to class currently in arena.
8. Ages of Riders and Jr. and Senior horses are as of January 1, 2015;
Youth show = 18 years and under, Pony riders = 13 years and under.
9. Riders in Leadline class may not enter any other riding class except Costume Class in Open Horse & Pony
Show. Beginner Classes #7 & #9 cannot enter any other classes except #7 &/or #9, #12 & (#14 only if it is a
one on one class).
10. A two minute gate will be in effect after class has entered arena. PLEASE BE READY ON TIME.
11. NO ALCOHOL in horse area - possession will result in removal from fairgrounds.
12. All horses large or miniature will be judged on the same scale in Model Halter Class.
13. No ponies/horses under 56” permitted in under saddle classes during the Open Western/English Pleasure
or the Semi-Society Shows.
14. NO refunds once show begins due to weather conditions. No refund without vet excuse.
HORSE SHOW GENERAL PARKING
All trailers 17 ft. or over will park in the back row of the top parking lot, back into or pull in.
NO SIDEWAYS PARKING
All trailers 16 ft. or under will park in the front row of the top parking lot, back into or pull in.

Horse Show Class
Descriptions and Rules
1. LINCOLN COUNTY RESIDENTS PLEASURE: Horse, owner & rider, must be residents of Lincoln County,
Living in Lincoln County for 60 days prior to show. Rider is to be a non-pro. Proper equipment and attire
for class entered is expected.
2. WESTERN PLEASURE: To be shown in Western tack at a walk, jog and lope with light rein, but still maintaining contact with horses mouth. Judge may ask for an extension of any gait.
3. OPEN ENGLISH PLEASURE: To be shown under English tack at a walk, trot, road trot (strong trot) and
canter with light rein but still maintaining contact with horses mouth. Horses may be asked to back. Hunt
or Saddleseat attire.
4. SADDLESEAT PLEASURE: To be shown under Saddleseat equipment at a walk, trot, road trot and canter
with light rein but still maintaining contact with horses mouth.
5. HUNTER PLEASURE: To be shown under Huntseat equipment at a walk, pleasure trot, extended trot and
canter. Mane and tail may be braided in traditional hunter style.
6. MAIDEN CLASSES: Open to horse and rider combination who has not won a 1st place in 2015 before the
start of this show. Proper attire for each division.
7. COUNTRY PLEASURE: The country pleasure horse is to perform his gaits with an effortlessness geared
toward encouraging stamina and longevity on the trails. Extreme animation is not desired in a Country
Pleasure horse. The horse must be extremely well-mannered, responsive and quiet manageable on a light
rein at all gaits and must stand and back readily on command. The shoe for the Country Pleasure may fit
the criteria of the Plantation Horse.
8. STYLE GAITED: This horse should be the ultimate type of Pleasure Gaited horse. Emphasis should be
placed on manners, quality and suitability to his rider. In the execution of its gaits, the horse should exhibit
animation and smoothness. A laboring and/or unnatural way of going, will not be accepted in a Style
Gaited Horse. The gaits must be performed with a bold, four-cornered movement with the front legs moving with elevated animation. It should display soundness and responsiveness to the rider. Braced tails and
humane tails are prohibited in all classes. Horses shall be judged on the walk and style gait. This class is
open to English and Western tack and attire.
9. CHAMPIONSHIP CLASSES: Horses must have entered and shown in one other qualifying class to be
qualified for championship. (Halter not to count as qualifying class for performance championship.)
10. EGG-N-SPOON: Each entry will receive 1 plastic spoon and 1 egg. When time starts, egg is balanced on
spoon. Rider must execute all commands at judges discretion. If egg falls off spoon rider is eliminated.
11. Last rider with egg still on spoon wins class. You must hold spoon by the end so hand does not touch egg.
12. SURPRISE FUN CLASS: To be announced at show.
SHOEING—The Plantation shoe must not exceed one half inch in thickness or 1 and half inched in width, with
no bare plate or other weight inside the shoe. The caulk must not exceed a 1 inch tumback and the shoe must
not extend more than one quarter inch beyond the hoof at the toe. The heel of the shoe must not extend beyond
the bulb of the horses heel when a perpendicular line is drawn from the bulk of the horses heel to the ground.
** The use of borium is permitted on the shoe and caulk with the borium must not exceed 1 and one eighth
inches.
Welded on lies are not permitted on flat-shod horses. Clips that are drawn from the shoe itself are permitted.
No additional weight shall be allowed on or in the hoof other than the shoe and nails.

I would like to give a big thank you to John Geeding, Shawn & Larry Peery for doing the
arena ground work and tractor for the fair and fun shows. Another thank you goes to all
the individuals and spectators that make these shows possible plus our sponsors and donors. These shows could not be done without the following people, Dusty VanAusdal, doing entry sheets, Suzanne Johnstone, taking registrations, Pam Sherwood, our announcer,
my different gate people and of course all the entries, spectators & volunteers that come to
our shows.
2015 Changes
On July 15th, the Lincoln County All Breed Fun Horse Shows will have a double awards
point show only for this date with no extra judge or extra costs to the entries.
The Open Youth Horse & Pony show on July 14th has been approved for APHA PAC
CREDITS, with Western & English Pleasure, model halter, 4-H showmanship, halter, Lead
Line, Fun & Beginner classes. The Open Western/English Pleasure Horse show on July 16th
includes Western and English Pleasure classes, a Lead Line class plus Ranch Riding classes,
a $200 Open Ranch Riding Championship class and a $100.00 Open English Championship
class and finally the Semi-Society Horse show on Saturday, July 18, includes a Lead Line
class, PLUS an Arabian Costume class. Once again the Model Halter Classes in the Western
& Semi-Society Shows will have payback money. Again, thank you to all that support our
fair shows and the local fun shows here in Lincoln County.

Junior exhibitors in any county of Missouri may exhibit BREEDING STOCK in the Lincoln County Fair
Junior Breeding Shows provided that the exhibitor’s home county also provides this option to Lincoln
County Junior exhibitors.
1. All exhibitors must comply with the general rules and regulations and Animal Health Requirements
for Exhibition in this Premium Book.
2. All Health Papers and registration papers are to be delivered to the Livestock Superintendent or Veterinarian at check-in.
3. Exhibitors in Breeding Shows will be limited to showing two (2) breeds within a species.Open exhibitors will be limited to two (2) breeds per family or farm name.
4. Each Exhibitor will be expected to keep their pens and areas clean. Sawdust will be provided in cattle
barn. However, exhibitors are still responsible for keeping the exhibit area clean and orderly. No
straw bedding will be allowed in cattle barn.
5. Abuse of animals will not be tolerated. Should an abuse be observed toward an animal, either in the
barn or in the show ring, superintendent has the authority to dismiss/disqualify animal and exhibitor
from the show.
6. No assistance in showing animals will be allowed in classes unless approved by the show officials.
7. All entries for livestock exhibition MUST BE RECEIVED BY JUNE 15 of current year. Register online
at http://lincmo.fairmanager.com or mail entry form to 880 West College, Troy, MO 63379.
8. No breeding livestock to be allowed on the grounds prior to 6:00 a.m. on Friday, July 17.
a.) SWINE must be penned and ready for check-in by 11:00 a.m. Show begins at 1:00 p.m.
b.) CATTLE and DAIRY HEIFER arrive 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. on Friday, July 17. Check in by 9:30 a.m.
c.) SHEEP arrive by 12:00 p.m. on Friday, July 17. Check in by 1:00 p.m.
9. Swine Breeding Shows will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 17. Cattle Breeding Shows will be at 3:00
p.m. on Friday, July 17 or immediately following swine show.
Release date and time for the Hogs and Cattle Junior Breeding Show is Friday, July 17 at conclusion
of respective show. However, animals may stay until Saturday, July 18 for display. Sheep Breeding
Shows will be on Saturday, July 18, starting at 9:00 a.m. Sheep will be eligible for release at the conclusion of the Sheep Breeding Show.
10. All livestock exhibitors and family members attending must purchase a daily admission ticket according to the fee schedule on the Livestock Entry Form in this book.
Remittance for passes MUST be sent with entry form. Gate passes must be presented at check-in.
11. All livestock vehicles must enter through livestock gate in northwest corner of fairgrounds.No trucks
or trailers will be permitted to park behind barns except while loading and unloading. After unloading livestock trailers may park in the restricted parking area west of the horse show arena. Any
vehicle found in restricted areas without the proper stickers are subject to towing at owner’s expense.
12. No grooming chutes will be allowed in the show barns except day of show.
13. If there are two or less exhibitors in one breed, they will be shown in a combined class at the discretion of the show committee.
14. Animals will be assigned to pens and ties by the Barn Superintendent. Stalls are for animals only - no
pens will be used for feed, storage or cots.
15. Premiums for Junior shows will be as follows: Blue ribbon - $10; Red ribbon - $8; White ribbon - $6.
Errors in premium payments not reported to Lincoln County Fair by August 31, will stand as paid.
16. No dogs are allowed on the Fairgrounds.

17. Failure to comply with the above regulations or specie regulations, will result in the forfeiture of any or
all premiums won.
18. ELIGIBILITY OF 4-H & FFA MEMBERS
Entries in the 4-H Youth Department are limited to Lincoln County 4-H members who have passed
their 8th birthday and not passed their 19th birthday before January 1 of the current program year
and whose enrollment is on file in the Lincoln County University Extension Center. Active members
of High School FFA Chapters (9th grade and above) who are continuing their supervised agricultural
experience program are eligible. FFA members must have a current enrollment on file with the Lincoln
County University Extension Center by November 1 of the program year (October 1 through September 30). Members of both the 4-H youth development program and FFA must be in good standing with
their respective organizations.
19. CODE OF ETHICS
Believing it is in the best interest of all junior exhibitors to maintain a reputation of integrity and to
present a wholesome and progressive image, the Lincoln County Fair sets forth the following regulation: 4-H and FFA members are expected to conduct themselves according to the best traditions of their
respective organizations. Inappropriate conduct (drinking, vandalism, stealing and indiscreet behavior)
WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. Any violation of this rule will be grounds for disqualifying the exhibitor
and or livestock involved. Further, any premium monies and/or awards earned will be forfeited.
20. JUDGING
The judges will place all classes according to merit in blue, red and white ribbon groups. Inferior animals will not be placed.
21. ENTRIES
You must make entries in both the Junior Breeding Show AND Open Breeding Show, if you intend to
show in both shows. YOU WILL NOT BE ENTERED AUTOMATICALLY IN THE OPEN SHOW. Cattle, sheep and swine exhibitors are required to check entries with superintendents after arriving at the
Fair. If an exhibitor wants to show an animal in the Open Breeding Show, and the animal is not eligible
in the Junior Breeding Show, the exhibitor should make the entry according to the Open Breeding Show
regulations and pay the Open Breeding Show fees. An exhibitor entering in both Junior Breeding Show
and the Open Breeding Show is required to purchase only one exhibitor ticket. All exhibitors entered in
the Open Show must pay entry fees.
22. CHECK-IN WITH SUPERINTENDENTS
Upon arrival at the fairgrounds, contact should be made with the Open Breeding Livestock Superintendent for your division. It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to have their entries checked with
those entered in the show books. Official health certificates and proof of ownership will be examined at
check-in time.
23. SHOWING
a.) Only a Junior exhibitor may show entries in the Junior (4-H or FFA) division. Anyone may show open
breeding entries. The superintendents may permit another junior member to show an animal in case of
illness or physical handicap.
b.) Uncontrollable animals or animals which the exhibitor cannot handle alone, may be disqualified by the
Superintendent and required to leave the ring.
c.) In cases where a member has more than one animal in a class, another junior exhibitor must show the
animal.
d.) Minimal assistance is allowed by another junior exhibitor at the discretion of the superintendent.
24. PUBLIC RELATIONS
a.) All stalls and pens must be cleaned before 8:00 a.m. each day and refuse deposited as directed by the
superintendent. No advertising of feeds or other agricultural products will be permitted in or around
the grounds or stalls. b.) All cots, bedding, and other personal belongings must be kept out of the aisles
and stalls between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. c.) Behavior of exhibitors will influence public opinion of
their organizations. They will be expected to conduct themselves in a proper manner.
25. COMPLIANCE REGULATIONS
Any exhibitor who refuses to parade their animal(s) when asked to do so by the superintendent in
charge, or who otherwise disobeys rules laid down in the premium book, will thereby forfeit their right
to exhibit and any premium they may already have won. All livestock exhibits will be exhibited at the
sole risk of the exhibitor.

laboratory pertains to the sample taken from the animal in question
and correctly reflects the condition of the animal at the time the sample was taken, with the burden on the owner, exhibitor, fitter, trainer,
or absolutely responsible person to prove otherwise.
At any time after an animal arrives on the fair or livestock show
premises, all treatments involving the use of drugs and/or medications
for the sole purpose of protecting the health of the animal shall be
administered by a licensed veterinarian.
5. Any surgical procedure or injection of any foreign substance
or drug or the external application of any substance (irritant, counterirritant, or similar substance) which could affect the animal’s performance or alter its natural contour, confirmation, or appearance,
except external applications of substances to the hoofs or horns of animals which affect appearance only and except for surgical procedures
performed by a duly licensed veterinarian for the sole purpose of protecting the health of the animal, is prohibited.
6. The use of showing and/or handling practices or devices
such as striking animals to cause swelling, using electrical contrivance, or other similar practices are not acceptable and are prohibited.
7. Direct criticism or interference with the judge, fair or livestock show management, other exhibitors, breed representatives, or
show officials before, during, or after the competitive event is prohibited. In the furtherance of their official duty, all judges, fair and livestock show management, or other show officials shall be treated with
courtesy, cooperation and respect and no person shall direct abusive
or threatening conduct toward them.
8. No owner, exhibitor, fitter, trainer, or absolutely responsible
person shall conspire with an other person or persons to intentionally
violate this code of ethics or knowingly contribute or cooperate with
another person or persons either by affirmative action or inaction to
violate this code of ethics. Violation of this rule shall subject such
individual to disciplinary action.
9. The application of this code of ethics provides for absolute
responsibility for an animal’s condition by an owner, exhibitor, fitter,
trainer, or participant whether or not he or she was actually instrumental ln or had actual knowledge of the treatment of the animal in
violation of this code of ethics.
1 0. The act of entering an animal is the giving of consent by
the owner, exhibitor, fitter, trainer, or absolutely responsible person
to have disciplinary action taken by the fair or livestock show for
violation of this Code of Show Ring Ethics and any other rules of
competition of the fair or livestock show without recourse against
the fair or livestock show. The act of entering an animal is the giving
of consent that any proceedings or disciplinary action taken by the
fair or livestock show may be published with the name of the violator or violators in any publication of the International Association of
Fairs and Expositions, including Fairs and Expositions and any special notices to members.
11. The act of entering an animal in a fair or livestock show is
the giving of verification by the owner, exhibitor, fitter, trainers, or
absolutely responsible person that he or she has read the IAFE
National Code of Show Ring Ethics and understands the consequences of and penalties provided for actions prohibited by the code
It is further a consent that any action which violates these rules and is
also in violation of federal, state, or provincial statutes, regulations, or
rules may be released to appropriate law enforcement authorities with
jurisdiction over such infractions.
IAFE (INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF FAIRS
AND EXPOSITIONS) NATIONAL CODE OF
SHOW RING ETHICS
Exhibitors of animals at livestock shows shall at all times
deport themselves with honesty and good sportsmanship. Their conduct in this competitive environment shall always reflect the highest
standards of honor and dignity to promote the advancement of agricultural education. This code applies to junior as well as open class
exhibitors who compete in structured classes of competition, This
code applies to all livestock offered in any event at a livestock show.
In addition to the “IAFE National Code of Show Ring Ethics,” fairs
and livestock shows may have rules and regulations which they
impose on the local, county, state, provincial and national levels.
All youth leaders working with junior exhibitors are under an
affirmative responsibility to do more than avoid improper conduct or
questionable acts. (Their moral values must be so certain and positive
that those younger and more pliable will be influenced by their fine
example.) Owners, exhibitors, fitters, trainers and absolutely responsible persons who violate the code of ethics will forfeit premiums,
awards and auction proceeds and shall be prohibited from future exhibition in accordance with the rules adopted by the respective fairs and
livestock shows. (Exhibitors who violate this code of ethics lessen the
integrity of all livestock exhibitors and should be prohibited from
competition at all livestock shows in the United States and Canada.)
The following is a list of guidelines for all exhibitors and all
livestock in competitive events: 1. All exhibitors must present, upon
request of fair and livestock show officials, proof of ownership, length
of ownership and age of all animals entered. Misrepresentation of
ownership, age, or any facts relating thereto is prohibited
2. Owners, exhibitors, fitters, trainers, or absolutely responsible
persons shall provide animal health certificates from licensed veterinarians upon request by fair or livestock show officials
3. Junior exhibitors are expected to care for and groom their
animals while at fairs or livestock shows.
4. Animals shall be presented to show events where they will
enter the food chain free of violative drug residues. The act of entering an animal in a livestock show is giving of consent by the owner,
exhibitor, fitter, trainer and/or absolutely responsible person for show
management to obtain any specimens of urine, saliva, blood, or other
substances from the animal to be used in testing.
Animals not entered in an event which culminates with the
animal entering the food chain shall not be administered drugs other
than in accordance with applicable federal, state and provincial
statutes, regulations and rules. (Livestock shall not be exhibited if
the drugs administered in accordance with federal, state and provincial statutes, regulations and rules affect the animal’s performance or
appearance at the event.)
If the laboratory report on the analyzed saliva, urine, blood, or
the sample taken from livestock indicates the presence of forbidden
drugs or medication, this shall be prima facie evidence such substance
has been administered to the animal either internally or externally. It
is presumed that the sample of urine, saliva, blood, or other substances
tested by the laboratory to which it is sent is the one taken from the
animal in question, its integrity is preserved and all procedures of said
collection and preservation, transfer to the laboratory and analysis of
the sample are correct and accurate and thereport received from the
NOTIFICATION REGARDING PHOTOGRAPHING YOUTH PARTICIPATION AT THE FAIR
Public Relations are an important part of the Lincoln County Fair. Photographs are used in various print and electronic media to recognize members for their work and to let others know what is happening at the Lincoln County
Fair. If you prefer that your child not be photographed at LCF events, we want to work with you to keep his or her
photo from being taken. Because there are so many youth involved in the Lincoln County Fair, we cannot assure
you that your child will not be photographed. We will ask official photographers to honor individual’s requests not
to be photographed. Please visit with your children about your wishes and encourage them to let photographers
know that they request not to be photographed. Should a photo of your child be made and used against your wishes, please let us know so that we will not use it again in the future.
