 Examination for the Grade of Student
This examination is open-book and has no time limitations. All papers should be
submitted typed, proofread, and checked for proper spelling and grammar. Include your full
civil name, date, and physical mailing address on the first page of the exam.
1. Write down the principal correspondences of the signs Sagittarius and Scorpio, the planet
Mars, and the sephira Yesod.
2. Make a study of all the multiples of the number 11 below 1000, and endeavor to trace a
connection between them.
3. Make a study of the various methods recommended by A∴A∴, and endeavor to classify
them under as few heads as possible.
4. Give an interpretation of Tannhauser, “Adonia,” and Sir Palamede the Saracen in terms
of Alchemy.
5. Write an essay on the mystical meanings of the Vesica Piscis, the Heptangle, and the
Golden Mean.
6. Compare the mystical methods of either the Shiva Samhita or Hathayoga Pradapika,
with those of Eliphas Levi.
7. Compare the Buddhist and Hindu ideas of the parts of the Body and Soul.
8. Compare the Wand as described by Eliphas Levi, Abramelin, the author of the Goetia,
and Frater Perdurabo, stating which you prefer and why.
9. Design a Pantacle to synthesize the number 156.
10. Write out a ritual, complete with talismans, layout of temple, etc., for acquiring the art of
rhetoric.
11. Discuss the differences between Hinduism and Buddhism with regard to Karma, stating
to which doctrine you incline and why.
12. Give either (a) a full and careful commentary on any five consecutive chapters of the
Book of Lies, or (b) a commentary and criticism on “The Psychology of Hashish,”
“Training of the Mind,” or “Soldier and the Hunchback.”
13. Write an autobiography of your life up to the present, with an emphasis on why you have
chosen Thelema, and in particular why you aspire to A∴A∴. Be certain to include
information on early life, upbringing, parents and siblings, education, occupation,
relationships, etc. Also include details on any magical or mystical you have undertaken,
esoteric or fraternal orders you have joined, psychological work, and any other relevant
information.
NOTE: You may consult the appointed list of reference texts in completing this exam. Keep in
mind that a full and satisfactory response would entitle you, as far as intellectual attainment is
concerned, to the grade of Exempt Adept. Accordingly, you should not imagine that too much is
expected of you.
