PRE-KINDER PROGRAM SITES NAMED
The Guam Department of Education (“GDOE”) has named the four elementary schools that will be
participating in a new pilot pre-kindergarten program that will begin School Year 2015-2016. Each of the
participating schools will open one classroom for pre-kindergarten four-year olds, and the pilot program will
help the department evaluate both the effectiveness of the program and demand by the community. “We
believe that investing in early childhood education is a smart move," said GDOE Superintendent Jon Fernandez.
"By creating this pilot program, we have an opportunity to work with our community stakeholders to build an
effective program and to lay a foundation for future investment in our youngest students.”
The four schools that were identified for the pilot program are:

The application process will run from March 23, 2015, through April 30, 2015. Families may submit
applications to the respective schools for the volunteer Pre-Kindergarten Program. Children must be 4 years old
by July 31, 2015, to participate in the program during SY 2015-2016. Proof of residency must be submitted
with the application as the priority will be given to families that reside in the attendance area of the identified
schools. A lottery will be held to determine a child’s participation if there are more applicants than available
space. “The application process will provide us with data to determine the demand of the program from our
stakeholders,” said Fernandez. “We are prioritizing families that reside in the attendance areas of the identified
schools to ease the transition into kindergarten by participating students.”
Logistics of the lottery will be provided by the participating schools at a later date.
Applications will be available at each of the participating schools. For more information, please contact the
participating schools at the numbers listed above
