President’s*Letter**
Howdy!**
*
October*already!*Our*students*are*settled*into*their*school*year,*and*our*Fighting*
Texas*Football*Team*is*off*to*a*great*start*in*the*newly*completed*Kyle*Field.**I*hope*
everyone*has*an*opportunity*to*attend*at*least*one*game*this*season,*as*it*is*a*great*
experience.**Our*Aggie*Moms’*board*has*been*busy*working*hard*to*make*this*a*
great*year*for*our*club.*We*have*had*some*great*programs,*enjoyed*some*wonderful*
food,*and*the*year*is*just*getting*started.*This*month*we*invite*everyone*to*come*to*
our*General*Meeting*on*October*6th*to*enjoy*some*dinner,*mix*and*mingle*with*other*
Aggie*Moms,*brag*about*our*Aggies,*and*enjoy*the*Program*“Start*up*Aggieland”.***
Our*membership*is*growing*and*the*attendance*at*our*meetings*is*great,*please*
RSVP*for*the*meetings*so*our*Hospitality*can*be*prepared*with*enough*food*for*
everyone.*Keep*inviting*your*Aggie*Mom*friends*to*attend*and*join*especially*before*
our*cut*off*date*for*the*directory*in*October.*This*will*also*be*used*for*the*goody*
bags**list*that*Student*support*is*working*on*for*December.**Don’t*forget*to*bring*
your*items*and*snacks*for*the*fall*Goody*bags*to*the*meetins.*Our*student*support*
Chairs*will*be*also*be*taking*names*of*Volunteers*to*take*the*items*to*College*Station*
and*Galveston.*We*have*a*lot*to*accomplish*this*year*including*fundraising*for*
scholarships,*which*is*one*of*the*main*functions*of*this*club.*Aside*from*the*$250*
book*scholarships*we*give*out*at*our*monthly*meetings*we*have*been*able*to*fully*
fund*a*$25,000*Endowed*Opportunity*Scholarship*that*is*given*to*a*student*from*
Bexar*County.*This*school*year*we*will*be*working*on*our*funding*our*11th*EOA*
through*our*fundraising*efforts*beginning*with*our*Gala*on*March*5th.**This*year*we*
are*going*to*have*an*even*bigger*and*better*Gala*at*Pedrotti’s*North*Wind*Ranch*
where*we*will*add*some*Casino*table*fun!*Of*course*there*will*still*be*a*great*Dinner,*
Silent*and*Live*Auctions,*and*dancing*to*a*live*band.*Our*committee*needs*lots*of*
help*on*this*to*make*it*another*successful*event.**Also,*this*month*myself*and*about*
10*other*Aggie*Moms*from*San*Antonio*are*looking*forward*to*attending*“Aggie*
Moms’*Camp”*in*College*Station*presented*by*The*Federation*of*Aggie*Moms’.**This*
is*a*great*fun*convention*that*I*have*attended*twice*already*and*have*more*fun*each*
time.*Looking*forward*to*seeing*everyone*at*the*next*General*meeting*and*
remember*there*is*always*something*to*do*as*an*Aggie*Mom*to*get*more*involved*in*
our*club*and*supporting*our*wonderful*Aggie*students!*

Meet the President
Katy%Alonzo%Gawlik,%San%Antonio%Aggie%Moms’%Club%President%2015’16%

Born%in%California,%grew%up%in%San%Antonio,%Graduated%from%UTSA%with%a%MBA%’93,%
married%for%30%years%to%Mark%Gawlik,%worked%for%HEB%for%10%years,%but%have%been%a%
stay%at%home%mom,%and%professional%volunteer%for%21%years.%%I%have%3%wonderful%
children,%Lauren,%Lindsey,%and%Mitchell,%and%one%adored%Grandson,%Colton.%I%knew%
nothing%about%A&M%and%Aggieland%until%2012%when%my%twins%Lindsey%and%Mitchell%
were%accepted%to%A&M%College%Station.%%I%was%surprised%to%see%a%train%running%
through%the%town,%my%daughter%laughed%and%said%“Mom%why%do%you%think%they%call%it%
College%Station?”%I%hadn’t%realized%it%was%actually%a%train%station!%%

Bad%Bull……Our%children%and%my%husband%had%a%huge%collection%tu%(UT)%gear,%
attended%to%tu%games,%and%our%home%was%decorated%with%tu%items,%even%our%Sports%
Court%had%a%big%longhorn%painted%on%it.%Needless%to%say%we%had%to%change%wardrobes,%
redecorate%the%house,%repaint%the%sports%court%and%sell%the%50%yard%line%season%
tickets%to%tu%games!%%We%even%let%my%Son%burn%a%few%of%the%tu%items%out%in%our%
backyard%to%make%the%transition%complete.%%

Good%%Bull…..I%loved%the%feel%of%the%A&M%College%Station%campus%from%the%minute%I%
went%there%for%new%student%&%parent%orientation.%%I%felt%very%welcomed%as%a%parent,%
and%loved%being%greeted%with%“Howdy”.%%I%drank%the%Koolaid%and%have%loved%being%an%
Aggie%Mom%for%the%last%3%years.%%I%have%enjoyed%attending%the%Aggie%Moms’%Club%
meetings%and%being%a%Board%Volunteer%(Fundraising,%Scholarships,%President%Elect,%
and%now%President)%for%this%great%group%of%ladies.%%
%
Currently%my%leisure%time%activities%includes%traveling,%going%to%Aggie%Football%
games%(I%never%liked%football%before%my%kids%became%Aggies),%and%Scuba%Diving,%
which%I%took%up%recently%upon%the%persistence%of%my%Aggie%Daughter%who%took%the%
class%at%school,%and%wanted%a%dive%buddy.%%I%have%been%certified%for%3%months%and%
absolutely%love%it!%%My%next%excursion%is%to%Cozumel.%%My%other%daughter%is%a%Skydiver%
I%think%I%will%wait%a%little%longer%for%that!%%%

Next Meeting—October 6th
“FROM THE FISH POND TO THE
SHARK TANK”
Join us Tuesday, October 6th at Aggie Park for
the San Antonio Aggie Moms’ Club General
Meeting. The doors open at 6pm for shopping
and mingling. The meeting will kick off at 6:30pm
with an Aggie all time favorite dinner menu of Double Dave’s
pepperoni rolls and salad. Our guest speakers for this month
come to us from Startup Aggieland, TAMU’s business
accelerator program which is open to all students of all majors
who wish to apply for membership. Matt Kinsel
‘14, Madison Jones ‘13, and Jared Knowles ‘13
are a team of Aggie entrepreneurs who have
successfully launched their business, Lynx Toys,
through the Startup Aggieland program. You will
be amazed to learn about the great things happening at Startup
Aggieland and hear how these Aggies have taken their business
ideas from the fish pond to the shark tank! As always, we will
have lots of Aggie Mom fun at this meeting to include door
prizes, a drawing for a $250 book scholarship for your Aggie,
and the latest updates
on club activities and
events, so you won’t
want to miss out!

“Thanks and Gig'em” to James Welford, TAMU Rec Sports
Development Director, for his wonderful presentation at
our September San Antonio Aggie Moms' Club meeting.
We learned all about the fitness facilities, classes,
intramural team sports, recreational outings, and
employment opportunities currently available to our
Aggies through the Rec Center. We also got the inside
scoop on the Rec Sports expansion project which is
targeted for completion in May 2016. All students pay a
mandatory Rec Sports fee each semester, so make sure
your Aggie takes advantage of these recreational
benefits and resources available on campus!

shopping at 6:00pm. Dinner is served at 6:30pm at all meetings with the exception of the

The San Antonio Aggie Moms’ Club Directory is published electronically for distribution in
early November. It will include the names and contact information of all members who have
joined as of the October General Meeting. A limited number of directories will be printed for
those members who have purchased a hard copy version ($5) or have joined at the
Hullabaloo Membership level (complimentary hard copy directory included as a benefit).
This year, current members of the San Antonio Aggie Moms’ Club who own and or operate a
business will have the ability to promote their products and services to our members by
placing a business card sized advertisement (3.5”x 2”) in the directory. The cost is $10 and
payment must be made in cash or check payable to SA Aggie Moms’ Club.
Complete the form above and return it with payment at the September or October General
Meeting. Form with payment can also be mailed and must be received no later than Friday,
