TENNIS TIPS OF THE MONTH:
PLAYING OUTDOORS
As everyone is preparing to transition from
indoor to outdoor tennis, there are a few important tips that can help:
 Adjust your strokes and shot selection
for the conditions. For example, if you
are hitting into the wind you can put
more pace on the ball. Also using your
lob is effective outdoors as it is difficult
for opponents to hit overheads in the
wind and sun.
 Practice your serve. Again, the wind and
sun can alter your ball toss and ability to
see the ball so make sure you have practiced your serve enough that you feel
comfortable.
 Move your feet. It is important with the
ball moving around outdoors that you
are continually moving your feet to adjust to the ball.
Cancellations made the day of the event will be subject to a 50% fee.
WELCOME TO SPRING TENNIS
Hi Everyone,
Welcome to the 2015 Spring Tennis Season! I am very excited
to be starting as the Director of Tennis and Platform Tennis at
the BFC. I have really enjoyed getting to know the staff and
the membership, including the Cocktail Party, and I look forward to a successful future at the Club!
Spring programming is up and running with permanent lessons and adult
clinics starting on Saturday, April 18. We also have our Spring Junior
Program starting on Monday, April 20 and have an excellent signup. There
is still space available if your junior(s) would like to join.
There are several new and fun events scheduled for April and May including
the first ever Ladies Intensive Tennis Boot Camp, and also a Kickoff Cardio
Tennis Event and Wilson Demo Day. Please talk to the Pro Shop for more
information. I look forward to seeing everyone on the courts soon!
- Thanks, Nathan

Reardon and Irena Choi Stern captain the women’s team.
The USTA sponsors the country’s largest recreational tennis
program, and the BFC’s 3.5 teams have a great opportunity to
play regular competitive tennis against a varied field of competitors, in both singles and doubles. The teams play on
Wednesday nights and matches start May 1 through July. It’s
a fun and a great mid-week opportunity to play, especially for
those who work during the day. The teams play against other
teams from all over Westchester and sometimes Rockland
County. Team members need to go to www.USTA.com and
sign up as a USTA member ($44) and then register for the
Bronxville Field Club team ($27). The men’s team number is:
1005053113 and the women’s team number is: 1005041750.
If you are unsure of your level, please consult the tennis pros.
Contact the Pro Shop for more information.
TWILIGHT PADDLE PLAYS ON IN SNOW STORM
Eight teams participated in the end-of-season Paddle Twilight
Event on March 20, including Will and Beth Fulton, Mark
and Heather Miner, Murray and Sheila Stoltz, Dave and
Trisha Reilly, Matt and Ellen Harblin, and Don and Alicia
Noone. The raging snowstorm, which turned out to be the
final one of a very long winter, didn’t deter members from
coming out along with some guests from Siwanoy.
