The Texas Narcotic Officer’s Association (TNOA) Central Region in conjunction with the
Williamson County Sheriff’s Office will offer a Patrol Response to the Narcotic Unit Class
to be held at the Williamson County Jester Annex on, March 24, 2015. This course is
offered for certified peace officers ONLY. A course related to the working relationship
between the patrol officer and the narcotic unit will be offered to licensed peace officers
ONLY. This course is highly recommended to patrol officers and supervisors to help them
better understand how a narcotic unit operates, the type of assistance needed from patrol
and how the patrol officer is extremely important related to drug enforcement.
Course will include the following topics;
*Current trends related to narcotic activities in the area.
* The type of probable cause needed for the type of investigation.
* Investigative strategies utilized by the narcotic unit.
* Methods of surveillance.
* Methods of searching.
* Co-operating defendants VS informants.
* Types of assistance from the patrol officer.
* Communication between the patrol and narcotic units.
* Legal aspects for prosecution of drug cases (Williamson County DA Office)
Instructor: Sergeant Gary Haston (Williamson County Texas Sheriff’s Office)
Sergeant Haston has been in law enforcement for 20 years with the past 16 years working in the field of
narcotics including assignments to a Multi-jurisdictional State Task Force and to the Drug Enforcement
Administration (DEA) Sergeant Haston has investigated hundreds of narcotic crimes including undercover
narcotic enforcement and criminal highway interdiction. Sergeant Haston is the 2011-2012 Past President of
the Texas Narcotic Officers’ Association and has been an instructor for the Office of the Governors-Texas
Narcotic Control Program, the Regional Counter-Drug Training Academy (RCTA)- Meridian, Mississippi,
the Capital Area Police Training Academy- Austin, Texas, Texas Narcotic Officer’s Association (TNOA) and
the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office.
