Grade 3/4 Camp
Today we farewelled the last group of Grade 3/4 students who are attending their 3 day camp at Camp Sunnystones at Merrimu , north east of Bacchus Marsh. The camp has been a great success with the students experiencing so many new activities. Again we’d like to thank the staff who
attended, the students for maximizing their experiences, families for preparing their children so well and Jess Greenbaum for her coordination.
Here are a couple of shots from this week’s group.
Naplan
The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA)
has on its website information about NAPLAN.
The annual National Assessment Program – literacy and numeracy
(NAPLAN) tests will be held on 12, 13 and 14 May for all students in Years
3, 5, 7 and 9. Students will participate in tests for reading, writing, language conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy.
Literacy and numeracy are fundamental skills we continue to use well into
adulthood; and if children are not going as well as they should in these
areas, then parents and teachers need to be aware of this as soon as possible.
Remember that NAPLAN is not a test that can be studied for, and students
are not expected to do so. What is taught in the classroom is what ends up
being assessed in NAPLAN.
For more information please refer to the ACARA homepage at
http://www.acara.edu.au
ACARA’s General Manager, Assessment and Reporting, Dr Stanley Rabinowitz, talks about NAPLAN at

Our performer is Bernard Mangakahia who will be presenting ‘Mana – The Spirit of Polynesia’.
Travelling through Polynesian cultures including Native American Indian, New Zealand Maori, Hawaiian
and Samoan, Bernard discovers with each the idea of family, challenges and pride.
Mana The Spirit of Polynesia embodies dance, music, multicultural themes, history, geography, the importance of learning about heritage and the power of self-belief and respect.
MANA is the inner strength and confidence that comes from a sense of identity. Bernard Mangakahia
inspires everyone to discover their own MANA.

Bake sale
Hi everyone! My name is Harriet.
Last term, some students in Rm 15, including me,
read a book called “Trash”.
The book was about kids living on a dump site in
Manila. They were living amongst endless mountains of rubbish, human waste, germs and despair.
Those poor kids don’t deserve to live like that.
Mothers Day Stall
Come and buy that special gift for Mum on
Friday 8th May.
That is why we are running a bake sale next
Wednesday April 29th at lunch time near the library.
Presents will range from $1.00 up to $5.00
We are donating the money to Team World Vision,
a trustworthy charity that works with these kids.
Please bring $5 (or more if you
are hungry!) to help us out.
Cards and wrapping paper will also
be available for $1 each
We do need helpers on the day so if you could
spare some time to help out on the day between
9-11am, please contact Jenny Burge via the
Office.
Let’s help those children!
Cupcakes, fudge cake, cookies,
lemon slice and more await!
