Dear Fellow Firefighters And All First Responders:
For 25 years, one of Monroeville Fire Department’s key goals
has been to pursue ways to provide certified and comprehensive
training programs for our region’s fire and EMS responders.
Approximately 10 years ago, we made huge strides
by building the Monroeville Public Safety Training Center
which is actively utilized by area personnel.
The second stage of this goal was to provide an annual conference with
certified training programs for our firefighters and responders right here in
our own district. This would allow our personnel access and affordability in
gaining this much needed up-to-date industry information and education.
HOTELS
Until now, training and conferences of this magnitude could only be acquired
by traveling out of state incurring work absences, extensive travel expenses,
etc. This will be eliminated by presenting these programs right here in
Monroeville.
It is with pride and excitement that we launch the 1st Annual Emergency
Response Training Conference & Expo Weekend to be held May 1 – 3 at the
Monroeville Convention Center. It is our hope that this Conference will fulfill
this need and will continue as an annual event for years to come. Ultimately,
our firefighters and EMS responders will have the opportunity to gain this
critical information and put it to use in saving lives and property.
In addition to the Conference, we will feature a select number of exhibits and
apparatus by invitation only. This event will be managed by Kelly Simon who
we have worked with for nearly 30 years producing the Monroeville Fire
Expo.
We look forward to your participation in our never-ending quest to provide
state-of-the-art knowledge and equipment to our regional firefighters, EMS
responders and communities!

Highway Safety for Emergency Responders (SHRP2 Equivalent)

Abstract: Emergency Service Organizations (ESO) respond to a wide variety of incidents involving operations
on, or near a highway. These operations pose special risks to personnel performing fire, rescue and EMS
functions. Every year a significant number of emergency service personnel are killed or injured while operating
on our highways. There may be a wide variety of reasons for these losses, but the point still remains, there are
ways to minimize the risks. In many instances, an ESO responds to a “primary incident” on a highway, only to
become the victim of a “secondary incident” – the nightmare in which a firefighter, EMS provider or police
officer is suddenly struck and killed by traffic. In the words of James Joyce, Commissioner of the Chicago Fire
Department, “Firefighters responding to calls need to operate as if someone is trying to run them over.”

This course will inform the students of the hazards
encountered at vehicle fires and other emergencies.
They will learn proper strategy and tactics for vehicle fires.
The hands-on training will allow the students an opportunity
to practice vehicle fire fighting tactics.
The student will need to provide: PPE, SCBA, with spare cylinder, pen/pencil, and notebook

Prerequisites:
NICS-FS or NICS-EMS or ICS, and HMO
This course focuses on the duties of the person who finds him/herself in the role of the responding safety
officer at the scene of an incident. It is an Incident-specific, scene-oriented course designed to teach what a
safety officer on the scene needs to know and be able to do, using scenarios to convey instructional points.
Students should be experienced company officers, familiar with safety issues, the ICS, Haz-Mat Management,
and applicable NFPA standards and federal regulations. Certification can be voluntarily obtained at the end of
the program.

This course will introduce the student to the basic duties of a truck company including hand and power tool
operation, search and rescue, and ventilation. Truck company support to the engine company is also covered.

This course provides the fire fighter with an introduction to basic pump construction and theory as well as
operating techniques. Emphasis is placed on getting water to the pump, getting water from the pump for hose
streams, and prevention of common mistakes in pump operations.
The student will need to provide: pen/pencil, notebook, PPE.

Structural Burn Exercise: Live Fire Attacks
Prerequisites: EBM, ELIF, SBS or Firefighter I Certification
This course will allow students who have already participated in live fire attacks to practice and hone their

ventilation.

Abstract: Almost weekly we hear or read about an emergency service organization that has experienced a
theft of funds, misappropriation of funds, or some similar “fidelity” related loss. These situations create not only
a financial challenge for the organization, but present a negative image in the community. This class has been
developed to raise awareness and discuss steps that an ESO can take to help protect themselves. This class
reviews case studies and provides 10 practices for financial system management and sample policies.

This course will introduce you to handgun manipulation fundamentals from the standpoint of being a lawfully authorized and responsibly
armed citizen in a concealed carry capacity. The program is as much about understanding the handgun as it is about understanding
your environment. Developed by Mr. Dunkle for the beginner, intermediate and advanced shooters, as well as Law Enforcement
working in a plain clothes capacity, the course is designed to give the students a starting point for continued sport and defensive hand
gun carry. Many skills will be learned to include stress management and focus, physical balance and mobility and spatial awareness
while performing in a deadly force encounter. These same skills have a direct correlation to your daily life and your interactions with the
people around you. Mr. Dunkle’s handgun program will not just make you a better shooter, it will help you find performance and
defensive options you didn’t know existed.

This course builds on the skills learned in Basic Vehicle Rescue and Special Vehicle Rescue. Scene size up,
lock out tag out, and medical implications of entrapment will be covered in the classroom session. The handson portion will cover extrication from meat grinders, snow blowers, impalement on fences, etc.
The student will need to provide: pen/pencil, notebook, work clothes, head, hand, eye, ear, and foot
protection.

dynamics, legacy verse modern fuel loads, new construction techniques, flow paths, door control, and

Abstract: Utility Terrain vehicles (UTVs) and All-Terrain vehicles (ATVs ) continue to gain wider acceptance and use in
the emergency service. They have given organizations a less physically demanding, more rapid and effective response to
emergency incidents and special events. Adding UTVs and ATVs to the ESO’s fleet provides a great benefit but also can
present safety issues if those using the vehicle have not been properly trained in the operations and maintenance of these
types of vehicles.
