Application Process for Mail Clerk:
Hello,
Thank you for your interest in serving our campus as a WJU Mail Clerk for the 2015-2016
Academic year. Please take the following steps to apply:

You will be contacted for interviews upon reviewing applications. Interviews will take place
during the week of April 13th -17th. Students hired for the position of mail clerk must be able to
commit to the following:
1. Shadow a current mail clerk for a minimum of one hour to a maximum of two hours
by May 1st. This will give you a glimpse of what working in the mail center looks like.
2. Attend a mandatory training session during the first week of class in the fall.

PURPOSE: To provide support and assistance to the Mail Center and the Assistant Director of
Student Services in all Mail Services responsibilities. To serve the campus community’s daily
mail and package needs including specialized Mail Center tasks and projects.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Assist students with mail service questions and box maintenance.
2. Sign for deliveries when necessary.
3. Process incoming campus mail and distribute mail to appropriate boxes and offices in a
scheduled and timely manner.
4. Process outgoing campus mail, including collection and application of postage, processing
of bulk mailings and delivery/drop-off when necessary.
5. Process all forwarded mail, maintaining accurate student address database.
6. Process all USPS, UPS, Federal Express packages daily.
7. Seek out and maintain current knowledge and understanding of USPS, UPS and Federal
Express regulations.
8. Notify appropriate supervisor and college departments of pertinent changes when
necessary. Assist with Updates to the Mail Center Handbook and Mail Center SOP
annually.
9. Other duties as assigned.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear and
frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to handle files, computers, and phones;
reach with hands and arms; stoop, and kneel. Frequent and regular repetitive movements
required using the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move
up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision,
peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
