Christ Child Society of Geauga County
“Nothing is ever too much to do for a
child.”
Mary Virginia Merrick
Presidents letter
by Janet Kramarz
Dear Christ Child Members,
We opened our February 24th meeting with the Christ Child prayer. Thanks to all who braved the cold
weather. I think we may have set a record for the coldest February!
Kathy Penko, Treasurer, reported a balance of $33,941.70 as of 1/31/15.
Judy Benda delivered 6 boxes of large diapers to Geauga Job and Family Services. Remembrances
totaled $200.00. Judy also ordered new Christ Child stationary from Staples using a coupon to save
$100.
Barb Matejka delivered 69 layettes. The next sew-in will be April 15 from 9-3 at the Munson Fire
Station on Auburn Road. All are welcome. No sew-in for March
Barb said we are set for Meals on Wheels until the end of June.
Two of the Provisionals met at Norma Salmon’s house to learn how to make bows for the gift baskets
for our April luncheon. They made 40+ bows. The Provisional’s are working on a basket for the
luncheon. The officers are making a gardening basket for the luncheon.
Karen Blaha had all of the forms at the meeting for the luncheon and they will be attached to this
newsletter. We are collecting baskets and gifts for the baskets. Money trees will be made from the
cash donations. Use donor forms so the donors can be recognized in the program: deadline is the beginning of April. This is a fun event so invite all of your friends. People like to be asked. Also, ask
for an ad when you are shopping or going to the hair dresser, auto mechanic, dentist, and others from
whom you buy or go there for services. Ideas for baskets: lottery tickets, gift cards from restaurants,
tickets for sporting events, wine, etc.
Norma said they can accept gifts as late as the week before the luncheon but they won’t be recognized
as donors in the program.
Anne Kelley, the President of the National Christ Child Society, will be attending our Red Wagon
Luncheon on April 25.
This is the year we present the Mary Virginia Merrick Award. All members who have current active

Red Wagon Luncheon Update
Thanks to all of you who have already brought in donations for the luncheon. The weather took its toll on
meeting attendance, but so far the selection is quite nice and we appreciate your efforts to gather these items.
Please continue to solicit items, especially gift certificates and gift cards. We always have a wonderful selection of gifts and it’s because YOU make the effort to gather items. You can bring your gift items to the March
meeting or directly to Karen Blaha (286-1617). A gift donation form is included with the newsletter. The Sign
-up Sheet for the Luncheon set-up and jobs the day of the event will be at the March meeting. Please plan on
giving an hour of your time that day to help run the event.
Invitations for the Luncheon will be mailed next week. Ask someone new to come…ask someone who
couldn’t come last year…ask someone who cut your hair or does your nails….ask the new neighbor on the
street. Put together a table for the Luncheon. Each person who gathers a table of 8 will receive 10 Chinese
Auction tickets as a “thank you” the day of the luncheon.
2015 “YOUR CHOICE” Raffle
This year’s “YOUR CHOICE” raffle can be as successful as last years with EVERYONE’S support. You can
choose which of the raffle prizes you want to try to win. Each raffle item will have its own ticket drop container
and the winning ticket will be drawn from that container.
All of our members are asked to purchase or sell at least 15 tickets ($25) for the raffle whether you are
able to attend the Luncheon or not. The success of the Luncheon and the support of our mission to
help children in need depend upon the participation of every one of our members. An order form will be in
next month’s newsletter. There are some really great prizes this year! The purse and bracelet are amazing!

PROGRAMS ADS bring in additional income and require very little expense to produce. The ads will
need to be solicited and prepared for the Program Book, and the result is pure profit. The ads can be
gathered for businesses or personal use. An extra effort on everyone’s part to get at least one ad will
make a big difference. Ad forms are included in this newsletter and available at the meetings.
Everything that happens at the luncheon needs worker-bees. At the February meeting there will
be a worker sign-up sheet for the day of the luncheon, but for now, the ladies listed below could
use a hand with their jobs. Can you work in any of these areas? Call/email these ladies and offer
to help!

Red Wagon Luncheon
April 25, 2015
, State Zip
Dear Friend:MM,
The National Christ Child Society, and its affiliate Geauga County Chapter, is a volunteer service organization
of 40 chapters that has been in existence since 1887 when our founder, Servant of God, Mary Virginia Merrick,
professed, “Nothing is ever too much to do for a child”. Since 1978, the Geauga County Chapter has responded to the needs of the disadvantaged, especially children, in our county.
We would like to ask you to consider a donation to our organization by placing an ad in our 25 th annual
Red Wagon Luncheon Program. The luncheon is our leading fund-raising event and last year generous donations from the business community helped to insure the success of our event and the continuation of our service projects. Proceeds from this luncheon have enabled our organization to continue to be a viable service organization helping the children of Geauga County.
Your gift is tax deductible and provides excellent exposure in our event program. Many of our over 300 attendees make an effort to patronize the businesses listed in the program. Your business card or a current ad
would be all that you would need to provide for the ad layout.
Please return the reply form with your donation in the enclosed envelope by April 10th. We can answer any
questions you might have by calling Judy Stone at 440-632-5116. Thank you in advance for your support of
The Christ Child Society of Geauga County.
With best regards,
Janet Kramarz
