Finalists in the three built project award categories, Innovation, Influence and Public Place, as well as the Next Big Idea award, are identified below. The winner in each category will be announced at the first annual Impact Awards Event, a gala dinner, which will be held at Union Station in Dallas on Thursday, March 19, 2015. In addition to celebrating the achievements of Dallas-‐Fort Worth area developers and real estate professionals, the event will also serve as a fundraiser for the educational and outreach programs of ULI North Texas. The Urban Land Institute has a strong national reputation for its awards in support of transformational land use developments, best real estate practices, and creative visioning. Award criteria go beyond good design, and often include leadership, contribution to the community, innovation, environmental sensitivity, and financial viability. A highly experienced and engaged jury composed of ULI members from outside the North Texas region evaluated submissions for the three competitive built project award categories as well as the Next Big Idea. Members of the jury were given a set of general and specific criteria by which to evaluate submissions all of which must first and foremost exemplify ULI’s mission to provide leadership in the responsible use of land in creating sustainable and thriving communities. Submissions were made by a variety of members of project teams ranging from the developer to the architect. The Innovation award recognizes originality and creativity in several aspects of development such as design, placemaking, supporting use of public transit, green techniques, financing (including public/private partnerships), innovative land use or community planning, or other inventive features. Finalists in the Innovation award category included Prescott Realty Group’s BLVD Multifamily development, TBG Partners’ design for the Harvest development in Northlake, being developed by Hillwood, and the Beck Group’s submission of the Piano Pavilion at the Kimbell Museum of Art. The Influence award recognizes a project, policy or program that creates a positive impact beyond its immediate borders or catalyzes the development of the surrounding community, resulting in a lasting effect on the built environment. Finalists included the City of Plano’s Downtown Plano Transit Village, Catalyst Urban’s Lancaster Urban Village Development and Cooper & Stebbins’ Southlake Town Square. 2 The Public Place Award recognizes a project that provides the public with enhanced civic, open or public space access or experiences. Finalists for the Public Place Award included two projects submitted by The Beck Group, the Dallas Arboretum Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden and Sundance Square Plaza in Fort Worth. The third finalist is SWA Group’s landscape and urban design plan for the Katy Trail. Unlike the three previous categories, submissions for the Big Idea Award do not have to be completed projects or implemented policies. Instead, for this award ULI North Texas sought innovative ideas with the potential to positively impact the quality of life in North Texas. The winner of the Next Big Idea Award will be determined by an audience vote during the March 19 event. Finalists include ASH+LIME Strategies’ proposal entitled “Community Development as Economic Development”, Omniplan’s Dallas Midtown-‐Valley View/Galleria Area Plan and Trinity River Vison Authority’s Panther Island development in Fort Worth. In addition to the three development awards, the evening will highlight the first Vision Award to be presented by ULI North Texas. This award is intended to honor an individual who has made an outstanding contribution in the field of real estate development, or a related area, in his or her lifetime within the North Texas Region. A committee comprised of the ULI North Texas Board of Governors, ULI Trustees in the NT region and other leading members of the North Texas District Council has selected Ross Perot, Sr. and Ross Perot, Jr as the inaugural winners of this prestigious award.
