Purpose of Role
To support NS&I’s drive to become a learning organisation by developing and implementing
strategies in Knowledge and Information Management (KIM)
Key responsibilities
To implement KIM initiatives in line with NS&I policies providing assurance to the business
that NS&I meets relevant standards of KIM







Contribute to the development of a knowledge sharing culture within NS&I and its
partners and the promotion of effective collaboration
Develop procedures and best practice guidance relating to KIM
Manage the implementation of knowledge management initiatives
Provide assurance that NS&I meet all relevant Government standards related to KIM.
To advise the business on the rationale and benefits of knowledge management
Coach staff to ensure compliance with knowledge management requirements ensuring
the sign off prior to roll out.
To develop, coordinate and analyse appropriate metrics (corporate and level 2
scorecard) relating to knowledge and information management.

Writing and implementing knowledge management procedures or programme to improve
business performance
Key principles and practical application of business improvement techniques
Understanding of technologies that enable knowledge and information management i.e. portals,
intranet, EDRM systems

Strong interpersonal skills to be able to build credible relationships in NS&I to support KIM
strategies and delivery
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal and an ability to adapt these to different

A wide range of business improvements methodologies, tools and techniques

There are very technical aspects to the role which I will communicate in as simple a manner as
possible.
I will be communicating to new recruits at all levels through the KM/Wisdom induction and this
requires a different style of communicating to that when I present to EMT or work in a project team
environment.
I will provide one to one coaching to senior staff, make presentations to business areas as
required on knowledge and information management each of which require a different
communication approach
I will be facilitating groups across the business to capture key business processes. This will involve
challenging and supporting them to deliver key outputs to agreed deadlines
The role requires delivery to level 3 but as a stretch it is possible to reach level 4 by focusing on :
Explaining complex information simply and presenting my own work areas passionately,
persuasively and constructively e.g. – WISDOM training; Intranet and KM project working.

This competence has more of an internal customer focus than external customer within the context of
Knowledge and Information Manager
 In facilitating KM strategy work such as WISDOM development and training, Process capture and
Intranet development, I will evaluate the needs and interests of both external and internal
customers.
 In managing the WISDOM/EDRM systems at NS&I I need to represent the customer perspective
for NS&I in dealing with Atos.
 In all the work I do I will have the principles of “treating customers fairly” in mind and I will be
required to contribute to the completion of the directorate TCF plan.

 Agree key delivery objectives and seek to identify and manage the risks relating to the work.

Whilst this role has no direct reports leading others will occur in managing building blocks in the KM
strategy and delivering the roll out of the Process Capture element
 I will ensure that the work objectives are met and performance standards are adhered to

personal and team objectives
The role requires delivery to level 2 but as a stretch it is possible to reach level 3 by focusing on :
 I will provide coaching and mentoring roles in EDRM/Wisdom as well as wider knowledge
management.
