Categories:
the Category chosen will result in which type of test it is labeled as:
Lab = any test labeled as an -ology (pathology, serology, etc.);
chemistry, cultures
Screen = Screens
Imaging = CT scan, MRI, Xray, ultrasound, angiography, cardiac echo
Procedure = Procedure
Purpose:
Options: Order or Result; Order only; Result only
● if set to Order or Result - this allows you to enter a higher level result
for this test - can result the components and then indicate the overall
result impression

String: a string of answers can be separated by semicolons with first answer being default;
can specify default normal (N) and abnormal (A) flags for each entry by adding = sign at the
end and follow with N or A
Numeric: the answer contains numbers; can be formatted like a string set
Date: answer is a date
Time: answer is a time
Text: answer is in text format
Coded entry: a list of answers can be separated by semicolons with first answer being default;
can specify default normal (N) and abnormal (A) flags for each entry by adding = sign at the
end and follow with N or A

to create a drop-down list of choices you must separate choices by a semicolon ;
type =N after the result answer to indicate a normal value; this will result in a green
background line result

Meaningful Use Measures:
If your practice is reporting for Meaningful Use, it is
important to be sure to categorize your diagnostic
tests and procedures appropriately so that your
measures calculated are accurate.
●Labs and Imaging will count toward MU
●Screens and Procedures will not count toward MU
Warning: if a category is not assigned to your test or
procedure then the diagnostic test will be listed in the
Lab category

Result Charting Workflow
Best Practice for completing an ordered test:
1. double click on the test in ‘blue lettering’
2. this will open the requisition window
3. confirm information > select blood draw method if applicable > Save
4. opens Chart to record Results
5. use templates to record results
