Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time
The Parishioners of Our Lady Queen of Peace, WELCOMES YOU!!!
People who have experienced the presence of Christ during a visit to church are often uncertain as to what it
all means or what they should do next. We want to assure you that the answer to these concerns will come
if you open yourself to the Holy Spirit’s movement.
You may also feel attracted to the Catholic Church, but not quite ready for Mass.
While we encourage you to attend mass, you are always welcome to attend our parish programs,
volunteer in a parish ministry (you must have Safe Environment training) or sit in on a Scripture study. Feel
free to contact anyone on our parish bulletin or website for more information.
As you become more accustomed to the promptings of the Holy Spirit, you will begin to recognize more
easily where you are being lead. Be assured that our parish staff is here to help you in whatever way we
can. No pressure! No strings attached - just a promise that if you need spiritual guidance we can help you
to find it.

INTENTIONS OF THE HOLY FATHER
(for the month of June)
Universal: That immigrants and refugees may
find welcome and respect in the countries to
which they come.
Evangelization: That the personal encounter
with Jesus may arouse in many young people
the desire to offer their own lives in priesthood or
consecrated life.
The Basics of the Faith - Reason Relationship
Join Seminarians Tyler Dubek and Joseph Moreno
as they host a seven-week catechetical course that
explores Catholicism through the lens of faith and
reason.
Tuesday evenings: June 16-July 28 at 7:00pm
in the St. John Paul II room.
Specific topics to be covered:
“Reason and Christian Mystery”
“Reason and Christian Revelation”
“... and God”
“... and Human Nature”
“... and Jesus Christ”
“... and Ethics”
“... and Spirituality”
The course will be geared toward adults but any of
high-school age or older are more than welcome
to join us as well. No materials will be required,
but bringing a Bible and/or a Catechism is always
a good idea. The course as a whole will build on
itself, but if you are able to come only some weeks,
do not let that hinder you from attending.
The opening session will cover “Reason and
Christian Mystery” focusing on the basics of the
faith-reason relationship.

Parish Announcements
Mass Etiquette and Worthy Reception of Eucharist
(In case you missed it)
1. Fast before Mass. It is Church law that one fasts for at least 1 hour before receiving Holy Communion.
Water and medicine can be consumed, of course. The purpose is to help us prepare to receive Jesus
in the Eucharist.
2. Don’t chew gum in church. It’s distracting, it’s disrespectful. It is considered impolite in a formal
setting, and it doesn’t help us pray better.
3. Cross yourself with Holy Water on entering and leaving the church. This is a reminder of our
Baptism, which made us members of Christ’s Church. Just try to remain mindful of what is happening
when you do so and don’t do it without saying a prayer.
4. Dress modestly and appropriately. Wear your Sunday Best. As Catholics we believe that God comes
down to meet us at every Mass. So, why would we not dress up? Any clothing that is revealing is not
appropriate.
5. Show up at least a few minutes early. Getting to Mass early allows you to pray and prepare yourself
better for Mass.
6. When we enter and leave Church, genuflect toward the Tabernacle. Christ is present for our sake.
By allowing our right knee to hit the floor, we acknowledge He is our Lord and God. If someone is
physically unable to genuflect, then a bow is sufficient. During Mass, if you pass in front of the altar or
tabernacle, bow reverently.
7. Please be quiet while in church. Once you enter the sanctuary - it is not the time or place to visit
with those around you. If you must talk do so as quietly and briefly as possible. Remember that your
conversation might be disturbing someone who is in prayer, which is much more important.
8. There is a moral obligation by each Catholic to examine one’s conscience prior to arriving at Mass for
the reception of the Body and Blood of Christ. Special attention is drawn to those who are in a state of
mortal sin, which does not permit them to receive Communion until after having received Confession.
If you are civilly married please do not receive communion until your marriage is validated in the
church. The same applies to people who are living together before marriage.
9. Bow before receiving Holy Communion. If it is God, then show your respect with a bow of the head.
This is an ancient practice that has continued until this day.
10. Do not receive from the chalice if you are sick. This is an act of charity and it is not necessary to
receive in order to receive the entirety of Jesus’ body, blood, soul, and divinity.
11. Be seated in church in such a manner that it signifies attentive listening and readiness to be instructed.
Sitting up straight, quietly and reverently is proper. Remember, that being in Church is not the
same as sitting in one’s couch or living room lounge chair. One’s posture while sitting should
be indicative of one’s intention to listen to scripture. This posture should reflect attentiveness and
alertness.
12. Do not leave early. Mass does not end at communion. It is disrespectful to leave early. The Mass
ends when the deacon says, “The Mass has ended, go in peace,” after which we reply, “Thanks be to
God.” It is proper for the congregation to remain in their pews until the completion of the recessional
hymn. Respectfully waiting for the celebrant and those accompanying him to leave the Nave, is
expected and only then do individuals begin to leave the pews. If an emergency or unforeseen or
uncontrollable event should arise, every effort should be made to leave the Mass in a discreet manner,
so as to not disrupt the Mass.
13. Pray after Mass, if you feel called to do so. It is a good custom, though not required, to offer a prayer
of thanksgiving after Mass is over.

Kid’s Corner
Kid’s Corner
Dear children, just imagine,
Huge crowds coming together
Just to hear Jesus talking,
No matter the day, no matter the weather!
And he felt so sorry for them.
They seemed so sad and alone,
Without anyone to care for them
As if they had no shelter, no real home.
So he chose 12 men as apostles
To do his work; to show his loving care.
He told them to go to all “lost sheep”
“Go into the world, go everywhere!”
Even today, when you see good things happen;
When people are blessed
and darkness becomes light;
Know that Jesus is at work in his followers
With the Holy Spirit’s power and might.
Always remember to turn to the Lord
When you have any kind of need.
Because Jesus loves to come to you;
he knows that you are one of his own dear sheep.
Remember the Responsorial today:
“We are his people, the sheep of his flock.”

Tuition Assistance for Notre Dame Students
Our parish offers tuition assistance for ND families in need.
The following are the requirements for this assistance:
• Those families who apply for assistance must have applied for the Bishop’s
Scholarship Fund. The FACT Report that we receive from the Notre Dame
Finance office will greatly assist us in determining families in need of
financial assistance. If you feel you need financial assistance for tuition
to attend Notre Dame Schools, we must have your information from that
report. The school will provide each individual family their report. The
report will show the financial need and also the percentage of “relatively
needier” families. If the report does not show a financial need please
do not apply.
• Assistance will be limited to students in 5K through Grade 12.
• Those families who apply for assistance should be participants in their
parish through their “Time - Talent - Treasure”. Again, if we do not have
records to prove this we will not be able to provide tuition assistance.
• Those applying must request assistance in writing to the parish office by
letter or email to Fr. Sojan or Deacon Jim (see bulletin cover for email
address). For more information call the church office.
These requirements are in place so that we can offer as much assistance as
possible and be consistent in our policies of assistance. Deadline: June 30,
2015.

Year of Consecrated Life
Celebrate the Church’s treasure
of those in consecrated life.
(See www.usccb.org for details)
Let us pray for religious sisters, brothers, priests, nuns, and others
who have chosen to consecrate their lives to God in this special way;
Let us celebrate the faith, hope, and charity that their lives give witness to;
Let us invite others to consider this joyful form of discipleship. Amen.
God calls you to make definitive choices, and He has a plan for each of you: To
discover that plan and to respond to your vocation is to move toward personal
fulfilment. (Pope Francis, 2013 World Youth Day)
Joseph Moreno
Joseph Moreno is a seminarian for the Diocese of Fort Worth who just completed
his first year of formation. He is a Pre-Theology II student studying at Assumption
Seminary in San Antonio. His current coursework includes philosophy, theology,
anthropology, ethics, Latin, and Spanish in addition to leading the Devotional
Life Committee at Assumption Seminary.
Joseph’s home parish is St. Matthew in Arlington where he has been active
in various parish ministries and groups for the last 16 years including installation
as an acolyte and serving with the Knights of Columbus. Joseph has a passion
for catechesis and has taught 6th-12th grades, confirmation preparation, youth
and young adult ministry, and adult sacramental preparation/RCIA.
Prior to entering seminary, he had a career in information technology
at Citigroup/Banamex and had completed a Master of Science degree in
Information Systems from Stevens Institute of Technology.
This is his second vocation; Joseph began his discernment process for the
priesthood after his wife of 20 years passed away in 2013 after a long battle
with cancer. He has a 19 year old daughter living in Arlington who is a junior
Biology/Pre-Med major at the University of Texas at Arlington. She is a cantor
at St. Matthew, leads the youth choir part-time, and assists with Confirmation
prep.
Tyler Dubek
Tyler is the middle of five siblings with three sisters and a twin brother. Growing
up, he played sports with his brother and moved around the country with his
family, his father being an officer in the US Air Fore. He studied biochemistry at
Kansas State University before entering the seminary with the Diocese of Fort
Worth in August 2013.
An avid reader, he really enjoys delving into theology and philosophy, especially
the tradition of St. Thomas Aquinas. He also enjoys running, writing, watching
movies and visiting with friends.
After this summer with us in Wichita Falls, he will begin his theological studies
at Theological College and Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.
God-willing, Tyler is on track to be ordained to the priesthood in (May) 2020.

Divorced and Re-married?
If you are divorced and remarried outside of the Catholic Church without a Decree
of Invalidity, or if you are married outside of the Catholic Church, you may not
partake of the Sacraments, including the reception of Holy Communion. Until it is
shown otherwise through the ministry of the Tribunal, no person is free to enter
into another marriage without the appearance or occasion of serious sin. A divorce
alone would not affect, or hinder in any way, your participation in the Catholic
Church. A divorced Catholic is free to receive the sacraments. However, if you are
divorced and have remarried, or if you are divorced and in a new relationship, or if
you are living with someone without a Decree of Invalidity (and your former spouse
is still living) you may not partake of the sacraments, including the reception of
Holy Communion).
Consider seeking a Decree of Invalidity which will enable you to return to a full
participation in the sacramental life of the Church. For more information contact
Deacon Larry Bills at the Church office at 696-1253.

Abortion can have a negative effect on every part of a man’s life — his emotions,
his soul, his relationships, his work and career, and most definitely his relationship
with God. What makes the problem worse is silence. - Fatherhood Aborted, by

Feast and celebrations
June 19 - St. Romuald, Abbot
June 21 - St. Aloysius Gonzaga (1591)
St. Aloysius prayed vigorously and fasted from age 7. Upon joining the Society
of Jesus, he was ordered to cut back in order to study and spend time with the
other students. He died while nursing the sick.
Even nice people gossip
“Guess what I heard?” While this invitation to share may seem like innocent
fun, it can precede the harmful habit of gossip. The Church has different names
for this sin, including a calumny and detraction.
Gossip comes in different forms. Every person has the right to a good
name and reputation. Calumny occurs when another’s reputation is damaged
through lies, while detraction is someone revealing the hidden faults of another
without an objectively good reason.
Gossiping doesn’t just hurt the victim. Pope Francis recently said “…At
the beginning, (Gossip) seems to be something enjoyable and fun, like a piece
of candy. But at the end, it fills the heart with bitterness and also poisons us.”
Spreading negativity about others drags us down as well as those about whom
we snipe.
Fight the Good Fight. While the damage gossip causes can’t be undone,
we can curb the habit by asking one simple question before we speak: “What
will I accomplish by sharing this information?” If the answer is “no good”, don’t.

Growing in Faith
GOOD NEWS!
ELEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME (B)
Ez 17:22-24 / 2 Cor 5:6-10 / Mk 4:26-34
I have a good sense of direction. If I drive by a place, I can usually find
my way back, walking or driving as much by instinct that says, “I think it’s
over that way a little,” as by any street names or landmarks. I like following
unknown paths in the woods just to see where they lead. I almost always find
my way back with a minimum of backtracking.
This bothers my husband, who is a firm believer in maps, map apps, and
GPS voices telling him when to turn. Often he ignores them to take a different
route, but he is comforted by their presence and reliably gets from point A
to point B.
“We walk by faith and not by sight,” St. Paul says. He may not have had a
store in mind, but in a very real way he was talking about getting from point
A to point B—from our wandering in this world to our home with God. He
was talking about making it out of our spiritual woods into the light of day
and making discoveries along the way. We see as human beings do and not
as God does. Paul suggests we find our way through our faith in God, who is
light in our darkness, the path on which we walk, our goal and destination.
Our longing to know where we are going is satisfied when we realize we
are going to him. Some will take detours and get utterly lost. Others will rely
on maps, and still others will follow those who have gone before—the saints
who are our examples or Christ himself.
Walking by faith isn’t easy, but God will get us to where we are going if
we trust in him.

Dear Padre
Why is Jesus’ ancestry described inconsistently in the Bible?
Why is there such a difference between the genealogy of Jesus outlined in
Matthew 1 and Luke 4:23?
Matthew wrote his Gospel story first. He was a Jewish man who
wanted to tell his Jewish audience that Jesus was the long-awaited Messiah,
the savior who had come. He needed to show that Jesus was part of the long
tradition of the people of God, starting with Abraham, the father of the faith.
Luke was a Greek writing to Gentiles. He accompanied St. Paul on his
many missionary journeys. His listeners and readers knew very little of
Jewish culture and tradition. Luke wanted to show that Jesus had come as
savior and redeemer of all races and all peoples. So he starts with Adam, the
father of us all, and says salvation is now universal. Your last name and skin
color are immaterial.
This belief of universal salvation will reach its fullness in the doctrine of
the Mystical Body of Christ, in which all of us are included. Christ is the head,
and we are the members of the one body that is the Church.
Keep reading the word of God for more wonderful insights.

Why do we adore God?
“Adoration exalts the greatness of the Lord who made us.” (Catechism of
the Catholic Church - (CCC), #2628). Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI said; “It is only
by adoring and loving God above all things that human beings can totally fulfill
themselves.” Adoration of God makes sense because of who he is.
When we adore God, we acknowledge that we owe our existence to him.
His is the purpose of our existence and joining him in Heaven for eternity is our
ultimate goal.
