1. May 11, 2015 Introduction to Systematic Review Searching 9:00 am-12:00 pm WMC 2F-102
This session will provide an overview of the requirements for systematic review searches. This
session will consist of lectures, practical exercises, and hands-on database searching. By the end
of the session participants will be able to:

Identify systematic reviews and distinguish them from other reviews
Recognize the breadth of resources required to execute a systematic review search
Develop a well formulated search question and structure a search using the PICO format,
Know how to apply appropriate date, language and publication type limits
Document a search in a standardized form
Understand the importance of peer-review of systematic review searches
Recognize the level of expert searching needed for a systematic review
Participants are encouraged to bring research topics to the session

You search PubMed regularly, but you would like to learn more about searching more efficiently
and effectively in this database.
By the end of this session, participants will:
1. Understand PubMed's scope, contents, and latest search capabilities
2. Formulate search strategies and search effectively using PubMed features and tools (e.g.
MeSH, Clinical Queries, Topic-Specific Queries, etc.)
3. Refine searches using Filters, Advanced Search Builder, History, etc
4. Manage search results using functions such as Sort, Clipboard, E-mail, Citation managers,
etc
5. Use MyNCBI to save searches & collections, customize displays, and set up alerts
6. Link from PubMed records to full-text articles and other resources

RefWorks is a web-based citation manager which allows you to import and organize references,
and generate reference lists. Learn to use RefWorks, a web-based citation manager:
1. Import and organize references
2. Cite references in Word documents
3. Automatically format bibliographies in a number of reference styles.
The emphasis in this session will be on the use of RefWorks for health sciences databases and
resources.

May 29, 2015 Introduction to CINAHL and the EBSCO Discovery Service

CINAHL is the primary database for Nursing and Allied Health resources.
By the end of this session, participants will:
1. Be familiar with the subject and format coverage of CINAHL
2. Be familiar with the CINAHL (EBSCO) search interface
3. Be able to construct a search that includes both key words and Subject Headings
4. Be able to limit a search by date, language, publication type and other limiters
4. Be able to save and re-execute searches
5. Understand the relationship and differences between CINAHL and the EBSCO Discovery
Service
6. Be able to export citations to the RefWorks citation manager.
