It’s!great!to!be!back!and!starting!a!new!term.!Our!students!are!very!focussed!and!staff!are!
well!prepared!to!lead!them!through!their!learning!programmes.!Please!support!your!child!
with!their!homework,!reading,!maths!and!writing!because!we!want!your!child!to!be!“Better!
Than!Before”.!!!

Other! ways! you! can! help! and! support! the! school! are! through! our! PTA! and! working! bees.!
Information!about!a!fundraiser!for!the!PTA!is!included!in!this!newsletter.!!

I! would! like! to! remind! parents! and! caregivers! that! in! the! interests! of! the! safety! of! our!
students! it! would! be! appreciated! if! you! do! not! park! on! the! yellow! lines! outside! school! as!
this!affects!the!visibility!of!those!crossing!the!main!highway.!!Please!use!the!crossing!area!
recently! installed! to! cross! the! road.! ! Also! if! you! are! leaving! a! park,! please! remember! to!
indicate!so!that!our!students!on!road!crossing!can!see!your!intention!to!pull!out.!!UDturns!
are!a!real!problem!outside!school!and!we!ask!that!parents!facing!north!drive!through!the!
carpark!and!turn!by!the!Playcentre!and!that!south!facing!vehicles!do!not!complete!uDturns!
right!near!the!school.!

Four!years!ago,!just!as!ANZAC!commemorations!were!being!prepared!I!was!lucky!enough!to!
be!in!Gallipoli.!!Turk!soldiers!were!erecting!the!seating!stands!and!practicing!their!ceremony!
drills.! ! ANZAC! Cove! is! quite! a! small! beach! area! with! beautiful! and! fitting! memorials.! ! We!
searched! the! graves! for! NZ! soldiers! from! Otago,! where! I! was! brought! up,! and! found! men!
from!families!we!knew!and!where!they!would!have!lived.!The!poppies!we!had!with!us!we!
then!at!Chunuk!Bair.!!The!whole!experience!was!very!moving!and!significant.!Paroa!School!
has!planned!an!equally!moving!ceremony!for!Friday!afternoon!for!our!school!community!to!
participate! in.! ! The! students! have! worked! all! week! on! activities! about! ANZAC.! The!
classrooms! and! Library! have! good! displays! that! reflect! this! time! of! 100! Years!
commemoration.!

This! term! we! are! lucky! enough! to! have! Cosmodome,! an! inflatable! planetarium! coming! to!
Paroa!School.!!It!has!been!six!years!since!the!last!visit!and!we!are!very!excited!to!have!the!
opportunity! for! students! to! experience! this.! ! If! you! do! not! wish! to! child! to! attend! the!
