Math Teams Place 1st at ECU Math Competition

Twenty Arendell Parrott Academy students competed in the annual East Carolina
University High School Mathematics Contest on Tuesday, March 25. Over six hundred
students from forty-three public, private and parochial schools participated in the
competition. Parrott Academy mathletes swept the top five scores in the Comprehensive
Math Competition giving the team first place overall. APA took fourth place in Math III
and third place in Math II. APA was awarded first place overall for private schools.
Individual awards were presented to: Brian Lin 1st, Bryant Lee Cox 2nd, Joseph John 3rd,
Jane Cao 4th and William Brectelsbauer 5th (Comprehensive); John Kirollos qualified for
the state completion in Math III; Jason Lee 1st and Cindy Zhu 5th (Math II).
Brian Lin, Bryant Lee Cox, Joseph John, Jane Cao and William Brechtelsbauer will
continue on to the state Comprehensive mathematics competition at the North Carolina
school for Science and Math on April 23. Jason Lee, Cindy Zhu and John Kirollos will
continue on to the state mathematics competition for Algebra II/Math III and
Geometry/Math II at Fayetteville State University on May 1.
The Arendell Parrott Academy math teams are coached by Lee Adams (Algebra I), Mary
Leighton (Algebra II), Kim Henderson (Geometry) and Joan Braswell (Comprehensive).
