Trail Ride
Information
1. Snowstorm Mountain Trail Ride – 16 mi
UTV’s and Quads OK! This ride starts Friday night, June, 5, 2015 at 5:45 PM. The trail leaves from the
Payson Event Center and is 16 miles long. Along the way you will encounter gorgeous views of the
Mazatzal Mountain Range. This ride is meant to be a shorter ride due to the fact that it is an evening ride.
Do not underestimate the beauty of this ride as you will be surrounded on both sides by gigantic mountain
ranges. Halfway through the ride you will have the chance to stop and enjoy a breathtaking sunset, while
you are perched on a large rock face overlooking the East Verde River. During this time you will be
serenaded by one of Payson’s own, Town Historian Jinx Pyle. He will share with you several stories of
the region as well as sing to you some old ballads that will certainly leave you feeling a sense of
nostalgia. This ride also takes you right past one of the old mines, where miners back at the turn of the
century drilled a hole through pure rock; whether they found gold or not is still a mystery. Don’t forget your
camera and a set of binoculars as well as a flashlight. There are a few rocky portions of this trail with
a few steep inclines but for the most part this trail is rated “Beginner”. All Riders Must Wear a
helmet!
2. Table Mountain Ride/Poker Run – 32 Miles
UTV’s and Quads OK! This ride starts Saturday morning, June 6, 2015 at 8:00 AM. The trail leaves from
the Payson Event Center and is 32 miles long. This will be a fun ride for the “Kid at heart!” Get ready to
get up close and personal with the Mazatazal Mountain Range. This ride has some of the most beautiful
panoramic views of the surrounding area. One of the defining features of this ride is a large mountain that
is flat and resembles a table top, hence the name of the ride Table Mountain. This area is full of old mines
where prospectors set out to make their fortunes; unfortunately lady luck was often brutal and offered up
only misfortune. Full of twisting turns, a hill affectionately named by the locals as the “Rocky Bitch” awaits
you on this ride. Enjoy old stories of this area from your guides as you explore some of the most rugged
landscape in Arizona. To also entertain you we have planned a poker run during this trail ride. At certain
points along the way you will receive playing cards. At the end of the ride you will have the chance to play
your hand. The best hand will walk away with a brand new Television from our sponsor Wal-Mart. This
ride is rated “Intermediate”. All Riders Must Wear a helmet!
3. Royal Flush Mountain Ride – 22 Miles
YOU WILL BE TRAILERING TO THIS TRAIL HEAD. This ride starts Sunday morning, June 7, 2015 at
8:00 AM. We will gather at the Payson Event Center and then all travel to the trail head. The trailhead is
approximately 3 miles from the Payson Event Center. This trail is full of rich history. This area is where
one of the bloodiest family feud wars ever happened. You have all heard of the Hatfield’s and the
McCoy’s. Rim Country had its own notorious feud between the sheepherding Tewksbury’s and cattle
raising Grahams. Over about a 5 year period there was more blood spilt between these two families than
any other feud in the western United States. You will also experience some of the most rugged, yet
beautiful territory in this area, so rugged it is named the “Hellsgate Wilderness”. At the end of one of the
side trails you will have the opportunity to see the large canyon called “Hole in the Ground” as well as
hear several stories as you pass by old mining claims that are said to still have “Gold in them ther’ hills”.
Get ready for a ride to remember! This ride is rated “Intermediate” with some rocky areas that would
not be suitable for small children or unskilled riders. All Riders Must Wear a helmet!

Safety Rules & Guidelines
To help you have the best trail riding experience
possible, the following rules have been put in place
for your safety and well being. Any rider who
chooses not to follow these rules and guidelines will
be asked to NOT participate in any of the trail ride
activities.
All Mountain High Games Trail rides are classed as
to difficulty of trail and necessary rider skill and
experience. “Beginner”, for riders with limited ATV
experience & who requires easy trails;
“Intermediate”, for the somewhat experienced, but
skilled, competent rider, who requires less
challenging trails. We assume that each rider will
accurately assess his own abilities and chose those
rides which will not offer more challenges beyond
his experience or ability. Beginning riders who
place themselves in an advanced group become a
problem to the entire group. Please choose rides
accordingly. If you’re not sure which rides you
would be qualified for, please call us at 928-4745242 x7 and ask about that particular trail.
No UTV or ATV’s under 250cc will be allowed
on the trail. The driver of the UTV or ATV must
be 16 years old or older with a valid driver’s
license. You will be asked to show your drivers
license when you register. Vehicle must be street
legal and you must have your OHV tag from the
MVD
or
you
can
go
online
at
www.servicearizona.com.
RIDERS
MUST
WEAR A HELMET; THERE ARE NO
EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE.
All trails/roads used by the Mountain High Games
are understood to be two-way. Even on narrow
trails, you may find someone coming on an ATV
from the opposite direction. Watch carefully for
oncoming traffic on all roads and trails. Please be
courteous to other riders.
Please pay close attention to the length of the ride
you are signing up for. Each participant needs a full
tank of gas for each ride.
We have one route that you must trailer your UTV
to the trailhead. You are responsible for the
transportation to that trailhead. The Sunday
trailhead is approximately 3 miles from the Payson
Event Center.
On each trail ride be prepared for possible rain,
wind, or cold evening weather. Please pack snacks,
food, and water as needed on the trail. A raincoat or
parka would be a good idea to have. Early morning
showers have been known to happen in Payson in
June. You will want to pack your camera or
binoculars for wildlife viewing and pictures. The
mountain country is beautiful and rich with wildlife.
Remember to “Tread Lightly” on these trails.
Responsible riding, with respect for the land and the
trails, will preserve your right to ride. Please don’t
abuse this privilege.
To participate in the Mountain High Games Trail
rides, you will be required to sign a waiver of
liability when you pick up your participant packet.
Please pay attention to all postings for changes each
day.
4
Safety Rules & Guidelines
Trail Guides will review the rules with all
participants before the ride. If you have any
questions regarding the rules please ask the Trail
Guide.
8. Turn lights on and assure plenty of spacing
between riders. Lights on will help the person in
front of you see you easily and quickly.
9. Ensure you have plenty of fuel and water for the
length of the ride, plus some reserve of both.
1. Each rider is responsible for his or her own safety.
2. Mountain High Games Trail Rides require
wearing helmets and safety gear. (Pants, goggles,
boots that protect the ankles and gloves) no tank
tops are allowed.
10. Each participant needs to ride at his or her own
pace. These guidelines provide assurance nobody
will get lost or left behind. It is critical that you ride
at your own pace and at your own comfort level. If
you ride beyond your comfort level; (1) you are no
longer having a good time, and (2) that increases the
odds of an accident. Each ride has to stay on
schedule to assure returning to the Payson Event
Center on time for the next event. If the pace is too
fast for a rider another Trail Guide will come and
escort them back to the Payson Event Center. If you
have this concern at all, talk with the Trail Guide
before leaving on the trails.
3. NO alcohol or illegal drugs will be allowed while on
the trail. This will be grounds for immediate dismissal
from the ride.
4. Don’t leave the group without informing the Trail
Guide. We will not leave anybody. If you get lost from
the group we will search until you are found. In the
unlikely event you do get lost, find an intersection and
stay there. Searching for a moving target is very
difficult; as well you could be miles from your last
known location in just minutes.
11. Inform the Trail Guide if you are a beginner
ATV Rider. The Trail Guide will ask that you ride
towards the front of the pack.
5. No passing other riders while traveling the trail,
space is usually for managing dust.
12. There will be breaks and picture opportunities
provided on all the trails. If you must stop while the
group is moving, go ahead, but these need to be kept
to a minimum. All riders will then come to a stop so
the group can stay together. If you do stop, leave
your ATV near the trail so those behind you will
know somebody has stopped. Our tail gunner will
not pass an ATV on the trail.
6. When stopping for any reason, always keep the road
open for other traffic. Motorcycles and quads might
come racing through, and we need to leave them some
room. So don’t stand in their way either, you could get
hurt.
7. Each rider is required to wait for the rider behind
him or her at each fork or turn on the trail. As well,
watch the rider behind you at all times. If he/she stops
for any reason, stop and wait. This will cause a chain
reaction and keep the group together. If you get to a
fork and don’t know which way to go….Stop and wait
for help. Even if it takes hours. If you stay on the
known trail we will find you soon. If you head down a
trail we did not use, it could take hours and hours to
find you. As well, if you head down a trail that is not
where the group went, you just became a Ride Master
because everybody behind you will follow. Please
realize that these trails have been designated for the
Mountain High Games only and are marked
specifically for this event. The Trail Guide is very
acquainted and knowledgeable of the trails; for your
safety, please stay with the group.
These rules are to ensure a safe and enjoyable trail
ride for all participants. They provide you with an
understanding on how Mountain High Games Staff
will manage leading you over miles of trails through
the beautiful Rim Country.
Relax and enjoy the ride!
