CASE STUDY
PernixData FVP Adds Velocity to
Veeam Backup Service for Zitcom
Zitcom A/S is a cloud and managed hosting provider in the Nordic region, providing
customized and business-specific cloud solutions based on individual companies’
needs and requirements. Stefan Rosenlund is a co-founder of Zitcom and responsible
for their hosting business.
They had performance issues with their Veeam storage backend based on:
INDUSTRY:
Service Provider
RESULTS:
•Backup window reduced by over 200%
• Dell MD3200i storage arrays and MD1200 disk shelves with 120 TB storage
•Latency reduction from over 200 ms to
< 14 ms
• Dell PowerEdge R510 servers, each with two Intel S3500 480 GB SSDs
• 4 TB datastore bandwidth saved daily
As part of their cloud-based offerings, Zitcom provides customers with Veeam managed

service backups. “We needed to build a cost-effective backend storage system for
Veeam. While we had the arrays with plenty of capacity, we needed them to perform
better as they could no longer keep up with the amount of data being processed at peak
periods. We were experiencing high write latency and even higher read latency, resulting
in our daily backups taking more than 24 hours. Therefore, we needed a solution to take
care of all the writes.
By implementing PernixData FVP as a “middle layer’, all the writes are taken out of the
equation, in turn, freeing up resources on the backend to take care of the reads.
“This illustrates the perfect use case to mitigate IOPs on a VM image backup platform
utilizing low cost backend storage that provides us profitability and outstanding
performance for our customers.”
The introduction of FVP into Zitcom’s environment has reduced the Veeam backup window
by 200% and reduced latency to less than 14 ms.

outstanding performance for our
customers.”

Implementing PernixData FVP software into their environment, Zitcom has saved a
considerable amount in CAPEX, “It was way cheaper to buy FVP to add write capacity
