AMERICA’S SHOWCASE

The objective of America’s Showcase is to provide a highly competitive national event for those premier
high school student athletes who play for USA Hockey registered high school teams and to provide the
opportunity for these premier players (who may not be traditionally scouted) to be seen by every major
hockey program in the United States. America’s Showcase hopes that each USA Hockey Affiliate
honors their registered high school players by selecting those players who represent their high school
teams and the ideal of the student athlete, through "open tryouts".
1. Team Eligibility Requirements
a. The Showcase team must be registered with USA Hockey and the roster certified, in
writing, by the District Registrar or Sub-Registrar.
b. Each team must roster and bring to the Showcase a minimum of eighteen (18) skaters and
two goalkeepers. Girls’ teams shall have a minimum of seventeen (17) including goalies.
i. Each team is allowed to bring a maximum of twenty-five (25) players to give
more players from your particular area the chance to be scouted. Girls’ teams
have a maximum of 20 players.
ii. If your particular state or area cannot bring twenty (20) players you must contact
the Showcase Director. The Showcase Committee will have the option to select
another state or area to participate. Any appeal to this rule shall be made, in
writing to the Showcase Director.
c. Each team can dress no more than eighteen (18) skaters and two (2) goalkeepers for any
one game.
i. The Showcase roster must be accompanied by a copy of each USA High School
roster for which each team members name appears for the season just completed.
Each player on a Showcase roster must have participated in at least 75% of their
high school's games.
Eligible players from a school without a high school team must submit a copy of
the USA Hockey roster that they participated with and must have participated in at
least 75% of that team’s games.
Any appeal shall be made, in writing to the Showcase Director, for consideration
by the Showcase Committee.
ii. The maximum number of team players representing any one high school will be
strictly limited to four (4). If more than four (4) players arrive at the Showcase
from any one High School, the Head Coach will select four players who will
participate in the Showcase and the other player(s) in excess of the maximum four
(4) from any one High School will not be allowed to participate in any Showcase
games. A Showcase team’s roster shall consist of less than 50% of players
registered on any single midget/junior team. Tier 1 Junior A players are not
eligible.
iii. Coaches shall only participate with one team entered in the Showcase each year.
iv. Your final Showcase roster must be received by March 30th each year.

2. Player Eligibility
a. The Showcase is restricted to amateurs who are full time high school students under the
age of twenty (20) as of December 31st of the previous calendar year, and who are
enrolled and attending the school designated on their player profile form.
b. A player must be listed on his high school team's roster and must have participated in at
least 75% of games played by his high school team or the team he played on.
c. A player may only be rostered on the Showcase team which represents the geographical
area in which his high school team is located. Any appeal to this rule shall be made in
writing to the Showcase Director, to be decided by the Showcase Committee.
d. A player's eligibility is determined solely by the geographical location of the high school
team he attended and played for during the season just completed. A player's legal
residence is not the determining factor.
e. Players who play exclusively for a Tier I Junior "A" team are not eligible.
f. Each team is permitted to roster a maximum of two (2) players who are full time high
school students attending a school in the represented geographic area which does not
field a high school hockey team.
g. Players who attend a high school with a hockey program and who chose not to play for
their high school team shall not be eligible to participate in the Showcase.
h. Sophomore or Freshman players are not allowed on any team for any reason. If a player
arrives at the Showcase and is a freshman or sophomore, this player will not be allowed
to participate in any game. The only exception shall be for girls’ teams, they shall be
permitted up to six (6) sophomores, no freshman.
i. Exceptions: The Showcase Committee reserves the right to grant exceptions to those
Affiliates who have a restricted number of registered high school teams and players
(Exceptions are just that. Exceptions to the general rule are not favored as they must be
under exceptional circumstances. They will be decided on by an individual case by case
basis). A request for an exception should be sent by the General Manager and shall be
received by the Showcase Director, in writing, at least thirty (30) days prior to the roster
deadline.
3. Credentials
a. All questions on eligibility rules should be addressed to the Showcase Director, for
review by the appropriate committee.
b. There will be a mandatory credentials and rules meeting for all coaches and managers
held the night before the games begin at the host hotel at 7:30pm. Each team must have at
least the Head Coach and General Manager present at this meeting.
4. Playing Rules
a. The current USA Hockey Official Rules of Ice Hockey will be followed. The game
format will be three (3) seventeen (17) minute stop-time periods for all games.
b. Teams will begin on clean ice for all games. Warm-ups will be five (5) minutes in length.

The ice will be re-surfaced after the second period. Once coming back on to the ice after
the re-surfacing all players are to go directly to the bench except the starting line-up for
each team. Failure to do so may result in a minor penalty for delay of game.
c. Proper Equipment: Proper equipment as described and outlined in the current USA
Hockey Rulebook must be worn at all times during all Showcase games.
This includes mouth guards, earpieces and only approved helmets and facemasks.
All on-ice officials will strictly enforce these rules with NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
d. Each team will be allowed one time-out, of 60 seconds per game, including overtime.
e. The on-site medical personnel will have final authority on the participation of any injured
player.
f. Fighting: Fighting will not be tolerated. Any player incurring a major penalty for
fighting or a third man in, will also be issued an automatic Showcase disqualification.
Said player will not be eligible to further participate in Showcase games unless otherwise
approved by the Discipline Committee, as appointed by the Showcase Director.
g. Any coach and/or player that receives a game misconduct penalty, for any reason other
than fighting as listed above, may be removed from competition for the remainder of the
Showcase games, pending a review by the Showcase Committee.
h. The standings shall be determined on the basis of two (2) points for a win, one (1) point
for a tie, and zero (0) points for a loss.
i. Overtime: During round-robin play there shall be No Overtime. In the event of a tie in a
quarterfinal, semifinal or championship game there will be a ten-minute (10) sudden
death overtime period. The sudden-death overtime periods will continue until there is a
winner determined. The ice shall be resurfaced after the completion of every two (2)
overtime periods. The teams will not change ends after regulation but teams will change
ends after each, ten minute, overtime period.
j. Tie-Breaker Situation: In the event of a tie in bracket play results, the tiebreaker rules as
outlined in the current USA Hockey District and National Championship Tournament
Guidebook will be used to determine the advancing team.

5. America’s Showcase Committee
All appeals shall be submitted in writing to the Showcase Director. The Showcase Committee
