MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
by Julia McCallin
It is hard to believe that we are in the month of May
and the end of another school year is in sight. Congratulations to all the college and high school seniors
who are graduating this year! I hope your summer is
filled with friends, family, and memorable days at the
Club.
May is the month when we celebrate our mothers.
Thank you to all the beautiful women in our lives
(mothers and those who have acted as mothers) who
have helped us along in our journey and have provided unwavering support throughout our lives. Take the
time to thank these women and cherish their presence
in your life. (And of course, bring them to the Club’s
Mother’s Day Brunch on May 10th to show them how
special they are to you!)
It is also a great time to appreciate the hard working
staff at the Club. It is because of them we enjoy our
time at the Club. Please take the time to let them know
you appreciate their hard work and caring. Our experience would not be the same without them!
My family looks forward to the end of the school year
and enjoying the slower pace of summer and the long
evenings. The summer is our time to rest and recharge
our weary souls. Whether lingering longer at the pool
at night or seeing our friends at Summer Camp, Youth
Tennis or at Dolphin Swim, there are many activities
for your family at the Club. Swimmers wanting to get
a head start on their training can enroll in Spring Swim
which starts on May12th. The Dolphin Swim Team
starts on June 9th with the traditional Dive-In Dinner
on June 11th. Yes, this is also when you can bid for a
reserved parking spot or premium table for the swim
meets. (Conversely, you can arrive at the pool in the
wee hours of the morning to claim your seat! Watching the sun rise on the pool is an experience that only a
swim parent can appreciate.) The ATCC Tennis Academy and Youth Tennis Programs run throughout the
summer. The ATCC Summer Camp has been refreshed
and offers a variety of fun activities each week. Chef
Matt will be offering cooking classes for the campers
with a feast at the end of each day. Ahh…to be a kid
again and have the Club as a playground!

MESSAGE FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER
by Craig Sloane
The Club is abuzz this time of year. All departments are
ramping up for the onslaught of summer, which includes
the hiring and training of about 30-40 seasonal staff,
and getting our equipment and facilities prepared for the
increased summer member usage. This usually involves
painting, cleaning, repairing, and replacing equipment
when necessary (and often it is).
But life would be boring if we weren’t multi-tasking.
We continue to make inroads with the county regarding the land acquisition. We have engaged the services
of a golf course architect for design and a firm to assist
with the required community outreach. We have also
brought on board, a firm to assist with our Club master
facility planning. There will be a series of meetings with
representatives from the staff and committees and we
hope to have something to present to the membership in
two-three months.
Concurrently, we continue to press forward with plans to
renovate the Kids Klub and update the Players Lounge in
the Fall/Winter.
As the weather continues to warm, and our members come
out of hibernation, I’ll look forward to seeing you poolside
or on the Terrace Patio enjoying a meal and the beauty of
our San Gabriels.

FOOD & BEVERAGE COMMITTEE REPORT
by Eric Neel
Greetings Friends,
In some harsh climes, the arrival of May means the
first real stretch of days without a chill in the air or
slush in the streets. But in our blessed corner of the
world, of course, May means the return of a favorite
comfort, a culinary oasis in the midst of long, warm
afternoons. That’s right, the Splash Café opens again
for weekday service (Wednesday through Friday,
with a limited menu) beginning on May 13. Let us
rejoice and be glad. Let us look forward to sweet potato fries in bunches and margaritas in the gloaming.
And it only gets better next month, as Splash will begin 7-day-a-week service on June 6, featuring Panini
sandwiches and our summer “on tap” beer, the ever
popular and precocious Hanger 24 Orange Wheat.
While you ready for these exciting developments,
please join us for a special Cinco de Mayo edition of
Taco Tuesday on (you guessed it) Tuesday, May 5, as
we commemorate the Mexican army’s 1862 victory
over France in the Battle of Puebla and celebrate the
simple joys of a Chef Matt taco bar.

These are, of course, the days of vacation planning, and of that bittersweet moment when some
of us wonder how it is that our summer schedules
have become more crowded than the school-year
calendar. Well, allow us to throw a few more items
on the docket:
On Tuesday, May 12 we’ll start opening the
Players’ Lounge at 4:30 p.m. (which, as we at F&B
like to say, is “5 o’clock somewhere…”).
On Saturday, May 16, the much-anticipated Silver
Oak/Twomey wine dinner takes place – get your
tickets now.
And on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, make
your plans to join us for a Hawaiian-style bar-b-q
on the grounds.
Finally, two coming-soon notes: There will be a
limited-time-only lobster special on the dinner
menu in the weeks to come, and our hard-working F&B Cocktail subcommittee is preparing to roll
out a new slate of drinks fresh for summertime fun.
Keep your eyes peeled for further details on both
in the weekly Food & Beverage note.
All our best, Your friends at Food & Beverage

SWIM COMMITTEE REPORT
by Steve Neufer
Summer is just around the corner and before you
know it we will be basking poolside enjoying cannonballs and wrestling with the age old question of
fries vs. fruit with our burger. With just weeks to go,
the countdown is officially underway.
We have an exciting new way to kick off
the summer this year with our “Splash into
Summer” pool party! We will be celebrating our
informal first day of summer with a taco cart,
music, games and prizes, and a free popsicle for
every member wearing an ATCC Dolphins t-shirt
(kids and adults). Dolphin t-shirts and gear will be
available on deck and t-shirts are free with program
registration. This is going to be a fantastic way to
get back in the pool and connect with our swim
program coaches and committee members. If you
are interested in swim programs but are just not
sure if they are a fit for your family, this is a great
opportunity to connect with a coach and learn about
the range of options we offer for every skill level.

TENNIS NEWS
MESSAGE FROM THE TENNIS COMMITTEE
by Stephanie Miller
April showers...hmmm hope there are enough May
flowers for Liz and Giselle as they get ready to say
“I do”! All of us here at ATCC, tennis minded or not, wish them a life time of love,
happiness and many amazing adventures. Liz has
become a part of our tennis family and we are
really excited about what life has in store for her!
Another exciting weekend in May brings the Pro-Am
Team Tennis Tournament, Friday, May 15th through
Sunday, May 17th. This tournament is one of the
most anticipated and most talked about tennis
events of the year! Fred pulls together 10 pros and
30 club players, four on a team, to compete in
a double elimination draw. The real fun begins on
Thursday, May 7th when the teams are announced
and you find out who is on your team. Mark your
calendars now! Entry deadline is Monday, May 4th.
Our singles and doubles ladders are in full swing.
The doubles ladder has just started and has 40
teams combined in the “A” and “B” flights. This
is a perfect way to hone your skills and strategies
by encouraging you to challenge teams that
you might not normally play. If you haven’t
thought about it already, grab a partner and
sign up. Singles also has a thriving ladder. As
Fred often says, singles is good for your tennis and doubles is good for your doubles!
The La Quinta Resort and Spa tennis weekend is Friday, May 8th through Sunday, May
10th. It is a great weekend to play great tennis in the desert. Call the pro shop for more
details. As we look forward, summer is fast
approaching. The ATCC Summer Camp is ready for
all our junior tennis players! If you haven’t already,
make sure you sign up your child for some summer
tennis sessions.
11th Annual Pro-Am Team Tennis Tournament
Friday, May 15th (6:00 p.m. for some teams),
Saturday, May 16th, and Sunday, May 17th
Some changes for this year’s tournament:
• Entry fee $150.00. (fee was increased to attract
more pro’s and also give a fair compensation for
their time).
• All #1 players will be 5.0 and above level.
• There will be 10 teams in the draw. 10 pro’s and
30 club players.
• The #2 player will pick the #1 pro and the rest of
the team.
• In the event of a 2/2 draw in match play, the
deciding 5th match super tie-break would
be played by the 1-2 or 1-3 combination that is
drawn out of the trophy.
