into a hipster retreat complete with metal

birchrestaurant.com) takes “intimate dining”
to the next level: The U-shaped counter
seats only 18 at a time and serves a seasonal
menu (look for the grilled radishes). Retail
therapy: The Arcade Providence (arcade
providence.com) is the nation’s oldest indoor
shopping mall, with boutiques selling everything from vintage jewelry to home goods.
