Hello all,
Well, this is it. The last newsletter of the year. This is way too short a space for me to be able to
recognize all the people who have really made this year a success. I am so proud of the students,
staff and families of the school in the way they work together to build a community where everyone
is accepted and valued. It is truly impressive. We have been very fortunate to have a significant
amount of community support as well. This month I would like to thank the Penticton Speedway
Foundation for their support of our Breakfast program. Many people don’t realize that the Breakfast
program is run by Meals on Wheels which relies on community donations to supply the food. We
need to send our most sincere thank-you to The Penticton Speedway Foundation, 100 Women that
Care, Neil Jamieson, and Carol Handford who not only donate money but just as importantly, bring
attention to the need for the program and all the great work that is being done around it. Thankyou.
As the year wraps up, we have a jam packed schedule of wonderful events and assemblies. Please
note the dates of the events and join us. Outside of all these events, we are still working hard to
ensure that we are maximizing student learning which means please try to keep your schedules as
consistent as always. Try to maintain your daily reading, regular homework routines, and regular
sleep times. Lastly, please continue to read every day over the summer. Research proves that there
is a drop in reading levels without daily reading. We have time to teach
them to read in our day but we don’t have practice time as much as they
need. Have fantastic summer.

MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY
Our annual walk for Muscular Dystrophy is on June 5th at 1pm. We will have an assembly at 1:00 and will then walk from 1:30—2:00. As in past years, our goal is to
raise $1200 for the campaign.
Information and pledge sheets will go home this
Thursday. We were the top school in the District last year for fundraising and we

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATIONS
Children born in 2010 are eligible to enter kindergarten in September 2015. Parents, who feel their child is not yet
ready for kindergarten, may defer enrollment for one year. Please contact Wendy Hyer (770-7700) at the School
Board Office for information on this.
Placement in your neighborhood school kindergarten is based on your address and registration date. The earlier you
register, the more likely your child will attend a school close to your home.
Register at your neighborhood school during regular school hours. Upon registration you will require the
following four items:
1. Your child’s birth certificate
2. Your child’s BC Care Card,
3. Parental BC Care Card
4. Proof of address (i.e. driver’s license, utility bill, lease agreement).

RE Q U E ST F O R T RA N S F E R S
The window for students requesting transfers from their catchment area school to another
school in School District No. 67 for the September 2015/2016 school year is 8:00 am, February
1st, 2015 to 4:00 pm, April 15, 2015. Transfer requests received after April 15th may not be
considered until September 2015. Although a sibling’s attendance at a school will be given priority as per
Choice and Flexibility Policy #305, it should not be assumed that the transfer is approved. A transfer request
still needs to be completed and must go through the transfer process. If you are unsure, please check with
your school secretary.
WELCOME TO SUMMER SCHOOL!
As you make plans for your summer, please remember that summer school is a fantastic opportunity for students to strengthen the learning that has occurred over the past 10 months. Courses that
are offered during Summer School focus on reinforcing concepts and skills through games and fun
hands-on activities. Students who have participated in Summer School in the past have enjoyed
the time they have spent and felt good about what they have learned.
Summer School courses will be funded by the Ministry of Education and School District No. 67.
Elementary school programs will run June 29th to July 10th from 8:30 am until 12:30 pm at Parkway
Elementary School.

Course information & registration forms are available in elementary schools and on the district
website at www.sd67.bc.ca. Please register at your child’s school before the registration deadline
of June 15th.
