Ventura County Annual Transition Fair
5/2 9am – 12pm in Camarillo
For 15 – 22 year olds diploma and certificate bound special education students
and their families. Meet representatives for the following agencies: Department
of Rehabilitation, Tri-Counties Regional Center, Community Colleges,
Employment Department, Public Health and many other agencies!

You May Now Qualify CalFresh! Monthly Income Limits Have
Changed..
5/6 1:30pm – 4:30pm in Simi Valley
CalFresh can add to your food budget to put healthy and nutritious food on
your table. The program issues monthly electronic benefits that can be used to
buy most foods at many markets and food stores. This program helps improve
the health and well-being of qualified households and individuals by providing
them a means to meet their nutritional needs.Even if you are not eligible, come
find out if other individuals in your household are. A CalFresh Outreach

Assistant will be pre-screening Rainbow RFC families and answering questions
you may have regarding their program. *Appointment Required 805-485-9643.
“Spring Dance” for Teens with Special Needs
(TCRC) ages 13 -21yrs
5/8 6:30pm -8:30pm in Simi Valley
Come have some fun! There will be a photo booth, music and dancing.
Attendees must be accompanied by their caregiver or personal assistant.
*Registration required through Rainbow Connection 485-9643. Ask about the photo release
when registering.
Tantrum Behavior-Positive Parenting Training (English & Spanish)
5/13 in Simi Valley
Presented by Sarah Pelangka, Ph.D, BCBA-D,E.S.C., California Psychcare
The training will be offered in English from 6:00-7:00 p.m. and Spanish from 7:00-8:00 p.m.
Parents of a child between the ages of 0-3 are invited to participate in a training specifically
discussing how to handle tantrum behavior effectively using positive behavior supports.
Parents in attendance will view and discuss evidence-based strategies and will partake in
group discussions, centered on how what is developmentally appropriate for a child aged 0-3,
what is atypical and how to appropriately respond in the midst of a tantrum. Registration
required.
Sibling Support (ages 10 – 14 yrs)
5/16 9:30am – 11:30pm in Simi
Presented by Sarah Pelangka, Ph.D, BCBA-D,E.S.C., California Psychcare
Rainbow Connection is hosting sibling support for individuals ages 10 – 14 who have a sibling
with a developmental disability. The group will consist of a safe and non-judgmental space for
siblings to discuss their experiences and various coping strategies used, while gaining support
from other siblings who may have had similar experiences. The morning will consist of wholegroup discussions and an art project to create a way of expressing their feelings. Registration
required.

Brown Bag Series: Communication from high to low tech
5/20 12pm – 2pm in Oxnard
Presented by Sharon Redner, Speech-Language Pathologist and Assistive
Technology Specialist, Ventura County SELPA
An overview of assistive technology and ways it can be used to help students to
do better in school. All grade levels, all disabilities. Bring your own lunch.

Expect and Tips for Success

Presented by Steve Turner, M.S., Assistive Technology Training Center, Ventura
College
Are you interested in attending community college and would like to learn more about it? If
so, please join us for an interactive and informative presentation where you can learn about
the services and resources that are available to help support you. Registration required.

Now an Adult: Moving Forward….

Parents/Caregivers Support Group for families who have an adult family
member ages 22 and older with special needs. (TCRC Person Served)
Join us, as we endeavor this journey together as well as share resources, and
experience or just come out and vent……….Registration required.

The IEP Basics (English or Spanish)

Special Education basic IEP information will be shared by a Rainbow parent.
Knowing your rights and responsibilities can help you be a more effective advocate
for your child.
What’s Next After Early Start? For Your Child with Special Needs
Will your child be turning 3 years old and transitioning out of the Early Start
Program? Changes can be confusing. Come meet with one of our resource
parents to discuss what you can expect and how to make transition a little
easier. You will receive a free booklet that has been helpful to other parents.

Epilepsy Emergency Instruction Card
Provides information about seizures, what it might look like and what supports
the person may need. The person’s name and emergency contact information
can be written on the card and Rainbow will laminate the card to ensure long
durability. It can be carried in a person’s wallet, pocket, secured inside a jacket
or placed inside a backpack. The card can be hung on a lanyard or on a
backpack. They are available free of charge to persons served by TCRC.

“One-Pager”
Create your child’s (or adult served by TCRC) “One-Pager”. This is a great way to
share valuable information. You can give a copy of the “One-Pager” to the
people who will be interacting and working with your child – the teacher, aides,
therapists, etc. Give us a call or email us and we’ll help you put together your
child’s very own “One-Pager”.

Walking the Path Together Conference Theme: How Your Garden
Grows
9/12 8:00am – 1:30pm at VCOE Conference Center
For families of young children with special needs (0-5 years old) and the
professionals who work for them. Workshop topics include: speech & language,
building family relationships, behavior, sensory integration, & more.

Rainbow Library is now available online & by Mobile Device App!
Our new system will allow you to search Rainbow Library for specific books and other
materials, or browse through the library in general. You can find out a book and/or video’s
availability or request a hold for pick-up.
The Purpose of having it online:
• You can access our library anywhere and anytime you have access to a mobil device or
computer.
How it works:
• From your computer go to http://opac.libraryworld.com/opac/signin.php
• In your Mobile device app store, key in “LibraryWorld”. This app is free.
Our sign-in/log-in name is “rainbowlibrary”. No password is required.

Rainbow Library patrons can now request books or videos. Once you are logged in, locate the
item you would like to request. Click on the ‘Request Hold’ box on the
right. Input your name, phone number (in the patron number field) and
email address then click on the “Request Hold” box to complete the
process. Follow the same process if you decide to cancel your request.
Please be sure to provide complete contact information when
submitting a “Hold Request” in case we need to contact you.
We hope the new library system makes it more convenient for you to make use of the
wonderful resources we have here at Rainbow Connection.
