The Division of Student Affairs and Residential Life at the University of Connecticut seek dynamic, diverse, and
multi-talented student leaders to join our team. The WOW Captain will have the opportunity to serve as a
student leader while enhancing human relations, communication and interpersonal skills, and serve as a role
model while assisting in the transition of new students.

FALL 2015
Candidates must be able to demonstrate:
 Leadership potential and/or experience
 Full time student status
 Be in good academic (GPA requirement of a 2.5 at time of application) and disciplinary
standing
 Have a good understanding and support the goals of Husky WOW
 Positive attitude and enthusiasm for UConn
 Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills
 Display a desire to learn about UConn, its programs, policies, and its community
 Ability to work effectively with a diverse team
 Must be responsible, confident, energetic, and dependable
 Must display a strong willingness to assist others
 Campus and /or community extracurricular involvement
 On-campus residency for at least one (1) semester
 Must have served as a WOW leader for one (1) opening weekend
WOW CAPTAIN RESPONSIBILITIES









Attend and actively participate in all pre-WOW training sessions
Attend and lead groups of new students through 3 days of Husky WOW programs and
activities (during opening weekend – August 28th – August 30th)
Maintain a positive attitude and serve as a positive representative of the University
Prepare and decorate residence halls for the arrival of new students
Return to campus early
Provide consistent leadership and direction to Husky WOW Leaders in assigned residential
area
Work in conjunction with Residential Life professional staff to coordinate and complete
performance evaluations of assigned Husky WOW Leaders
Assist in the implementation of Husky WOW Leader training in August, including
presenting educational sessions and facilitating team building exercises
Other duties as assigned
BENEFITS AND COMPENSATION








Gain leadership and communication skills
Help new students transition into college
Serve as a role model
$9.15 per hour stipend for WOW Leaders (money disbursed two weeks after the start of classes)
$9.30 per hour stipend for WOW Captains (money disbursed two weeks after the start of classes)
Become part of a UConn tradition
Return to campus early and move into your residence hall space
Meals will be provided during training & WOW activities
TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT


Confirmation of GPA, residency and disciplinary standing
WOW Captains and returning WOW leaders cannot accept additional employment or
participate in any outside activities/commitments during the dates of employment.

Applications received by 5:00pm on Friday, May 1, 2015 will receive top priority with a closing date
of Wednesday, May 6th to be considered for the returning WOW Leader or Captain position.
