BRIEFLY (1 or 2 sentences) DESCRIBE THE POSITION’S ORGANIZATIONAL SETTING AND MAJOR FUNCTIONS
Under general supervision of the Accounting Administrator I (Supervisor), the Accounting Officer (AO) will
assume responsibility for Accounts Receivable (AR) work related to management of accounts subject to
audits or compensation review. The AO will also be responsible for moderate to high level analysis and
action for pension and administrative accounts receivable.

Accounts Receivable for Audits
 The AO will monitor and establish pension accounts receivable that result from audit
findings. This includes working with other business areas to follow up on audit findings
and participation on cross-functional teams representing the interest and business needs
of Accounting and the Financial Services Branch (FSB). The AO will perform collection
activities by contacting impacted members, beneficiaries, and school districts. The AO
will maintain records and initiate transactions in the pension administration system
(START) to administer such receivables.
Accounts Receivable for Compensation Review
 The AO will monitor and establish pension accounts receivable that result from
Compensation Review Unit (CRU) determinations. This includes working with other
business areas to ensure receivables are accurate and participation on cross-functional
teams representing the interest and business needs of Accounting and the Financial
Services Branch (FSB). The AO will perform collection activities by contacting impacted
members, beneficiaries, and school districts. The AO will maintain records and initiate
transactions in START to administer such receivables.
Pension Accounts Receivable (General)
 As part of daily AR operations and AR staff responsibilities, the AO will also monitor,
review, create, and adjust pension accounts receivables by reviewing, processing, and
approving work orders, reviewing write-off requests, monitoring new and aged
delinquent receivables, and determining new receivables by cause. The AO will work
with business partners within and external from Accounting to manage new ARs. The
AO will use CalSTRS pension administrative systems extensively (START).


The AO will act as back-up for staff assigned to administer Employer Accounts
Receivable (EARs) and receivables related to the Replacement Benefits (RB) program.
The AO will perform these functions in the absence of primary staff.

The AO will establish Credit Memos in BusinessDirect (BD), apply payments, review BD
mapping, policies and procedures as necessary. The AO will establish, monitor, and
maintain Administrative (employee) ARs. The AO will review General Ledger (AR)
accounts involving AR and perform reconciliations as necessary.
