HELP US GROW -- Locally owned Richmond, VT based retail Grocery Company is in need of a Produce
Manager. Our company is currently made up of 3 locations with 100+ employees. We have a steady plan
for growth with 2 additional locations already in the works. We are searching for a produce enthusiast
who wants to grow with us This position reports to the Store Manager and involves first and foremost
serving our customers promptly, completely, and respectfully with your attention, management of
department personnel and products, providing fresh, quality and plentiful products at a price and
presentation level that make our customers feel inspired to make us their number one produce supplier,
returning again and again.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain and enhance the value of the produce department by planning, implementing, and evaluating
customer needs by developing displays, pricing strategies, and cultivating a product mix that is in line
with customer needs as well as on the cutting edge of retail opportunities.
PRODUCE MANAGER JOB DUTIES:

Provide at all times beyond “excellent” customer service to all Company customers
Be available to work a flexible schedule that will shift as operation needs shift (includes working
nights, weekends, and holidays) – As the produce manager you are required to work as many
hours above 45/week as the job takes to get it done. If your team and tasks are managed well,
this should not occur often or excessively and will likely happen in cases of rare or unexpected
incidences
Create weekly schedule(s) for your department, to be subject to final approval by Store
Manager and/or Owner
Perform and manager all ordering for the produce department

Master and manage all opening and closing duties
Learn and become an expert in all produce equipment, hardware, software, and tasks
Help to maintain and create a healthy, clean, inviting department that customers love shopping
in
Be a “teammate” and not an individual to the company
Build strong, positive working relationships with all employees and work cohesively with the
executive team comprised of the Owner, financial controller, and other location store managers
Stay current with produce retail trends, price conscious retailing, customer buying needs, and
visit competitor stores to see what they are up to and what we can do better both in design,
stocking, and service
Work closely with vendors to ensure you are receiving and offering the best pricing, new items,
best quality, and appropriate items that your customers will love and appreciate
Calculate margins and make sure pricing is correct and clear on the shelves and that the
Receiver has all of your current-to-date pricing information so items are retailed at the register
correctly
Perform and manage a monthly inventory count of all produce department products
Responsible for training, firing, hiring, disciplining all members of the Company whom report
directly to you
Create appropriate department signage and displays to help stimulate sales and customer
interest and praise
Help plan weekly ad’s and flyer deals
Attend food shows, work with vendors to negotiate beneficial deals, research new and fresh
products to offer customers, run movement reports to assess under-performing products, work
with departments to make sure they are the most effective and efficient as they can be while
maintaining margin expectations set by management
Research under-performing areas of your department, create appropriate solutions to combat
these negatives
Train employees and managers as needed so they can effectively assist in your department as
needed
Work with management to create processes and build solutions for day-to-day and long-term
operational needs of the company and the store as a whole
Perform all other duties as assigned by upper management
SKILLS/QUALICATIONS
Produce management, product research, strong understanding of fresh standard policies and
maintaining quality, computer skills including Excel, inventory based software, email, comfort with basic
mathematical computations
JOB REQUIREMENTS

High school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 2-3 years of experience working in a
grocery retail setting required
Experience executing goals, effectively creating change, and increasing efficiency
Knowledge of perishables and best handling practices
Excellent communication and leadership skills

Basic math skills for ordering and inventory
Strong multi-tasking skills
Must be highly motivated with a sense of urgency and the ability to work in a fast=paced
environment at all times with all levels of employees
Strong interpersonal skills
Ability to work varied hours/days as business dictates
