Senior Scientist – Radiation Detection Systems and Applications
Radiation Monitoring Devices, Inc. (RMD, Watertown, Massachusetts) provides a dynamic
work environment for performing world-class research and development in the field of
radiation detection. RMD is a national leader in the US government-sponsored SBIR (Small
Business Innovation Research) program, and since its founding in 1974 has made countless
breakthroughs in the development of radiation detection materials and technologies, and
introduced related products, technology and instrumentation essential to science, health care,
security, defense and industry.
Position Reports To: a Team Leader, Imaging Technologies and Applications Group
Job Description: We seek a self-driven Senior Scientist to support research and
development of advanced nuclear detectors based on MCP-PMT and SiPM readouts, and
high spatial resolution X-ray/gamma ray/neutron imaging detectors employing CCD or CMOS
sensors. The scope of research includes development of radiation detection modalities for
applications in nuclear medicine and medical/non-medical radiography (phase contrast
imaging, tomosynthesis, and tomography). Thorough knowledge of radiation detection and
measurement systems, and sensor materials is a must. Responsibilities will include
evaluation of scintillation/semiconductor materials, detector assembly and tests under Xray/neutron/gamma irradiation, data acquisition, and analysis.
Responsibilities Include:
 Develop applications and custom designs of radiation imaging modalities
 Perform experimental tests on detectors, and develop data acquisition and analysis
protocols
 Develop new concepts for research and write proposals, periodic progress reports, and
present results at conferences
Requirements:
 Expertise in radiation detection, data acquisition, and image analysis
 Hands-on experience in the design and testing of radiation detectors
 Experience in using standard NIM electronics for radiation detection
 Experience with MATLAB/Visual Basic data acquisition codes
 Excellent oral and written communication skills
 Willingness to travel and work in radiation environment
 Ability to work in technically and ethnically diverse teams
Educational Qualifications:
 Ph.D. degree in physics, nuclear/electrical engineering or related fields with 3 to 5 years of
relevant experience.
