Getting Started in Braces with Rykiss Orthodontics
1. New Patient Consultation with Dr. Jared or Dr. Mark (approx. 60 min)
Learn about the
newest orthodontic technologies, and how braces can move your teeth to a healthy and
beautiful smile. Our self-ligating system (3M Unitek) uses less force, and less friction which
translates in to fewer and shorter appointments, shorter treatment time and enhanced comfort
for you. You will take home a comprehensive package including your digital photographs, fees
including payment options, insurance details and any other treatment specifics that will assist
you with your treatment. THE NEXT 2 APPOINTMENTS ARE RECORDS FOLLOWED BY BRACES ON.
IN SOME CASES WE MAY BE ABLE TO DO BOTH IN ONE APPOINTMENT. AS WELL, IF YOU ARE
READY TO PROCEED, WE MAY BE ABLE TO TAKE RECORDS IMMEDIATELY AFTER YOUR NEW
PATIENT EXAM.
2. Records Appointment (approx. 30 minutes) Orthodontic records are taken including
impressions and x-rays. These records will be studied by our orthodontists as they plan out your
unique treatment and prepare for your next appointment which will be braces on.
3. Braces On! (approx. 60-90 minutes) Braces will be bonded to your teeth (no needles, no drills)
If other appliances are to be used along with the braces (this would have been pre-planned and
discussed with you) they may be bonded as well. Your orthodontist will be explaining each step
of this process. You may want to watch and listen or enjoy TV and relax. Please bring your own
iPod if you wish and ask us for a blanket or anything else you need to be comfortable. Once
braces are on we will review all facets of caring for your braces including good oral hygiene and
food tips while you’re in braces.
4. Regular Visits every 6-12 weeks (approx. 30 minutes) At each appointment Dr. Jared and Dr.
Mark will make the necessary orthodontic adjustments, and monitor your progress. We are
pleased to show you your original models or photographs and celebrate the wonderful changes
to your bite and smile. Please bring any questions, comments or concerns you might have to
these appointments or email our wonderful orthodontists at [email protected]. Should you
need more discussion time with them we are happy to book conference times usually at end of
day.
Typically, treatment time is approximately 18-24 months. When braces are removed we will provide a clear, removable retainer
that you will wear indefinitely. We will monitor your progress for an additional year and then as needed or requested. This
retention period is critical to our goal of doing orthodontics once, making it perfect and lasting forever.
