TUESDAY, 4 AUGUST 2015 – SPEAKER – TARRYN REDDY, CLINICAL AUDIOLOGIST
It has been discovered that the average person waits
approximately seven to 10 years before they decide to
seek professional assistance for their hearing difficulties.
This is possibly due to the gradual nature of the
deterioration, as well as the negative connotation
attached to hearing impairment. Many people view
hearing loss as a sign of old age or weakness. However,
when treatment is delayed, the rehabilitation process
becomes a lot more complicated and difficult.
Furthermore, recent research has shown that there is a
close link between untreated hearing loss and dementia.

1 SEPTEMBER – SPRING DAY
Let’s chase the Winter blues away and celebrate
the arrival of Spring with a panoramic slide show
of Namaqualand by one of our members, Derek
Jones.
This will be a special meeting. More details to
follow.
6 OCTOBER – BEEKEEPER – CALLY ROGERS
Bees are some of the hardest working creatures on the planet and have been held in high esteem
throughout history. Bees are responsible for pollinating about one-sixth of flowering plants world-wide
and approximately four hundred different agricultural plants. They help to provide us with fruit and
vegetables plus they provide us with delicious honey. It would be too dangerous for us to visit the
hives, but Cally has offered to bring a hive to the meeting. Learn about the role of the queen, worker
and drone bees.
3 NOVEMBER – ROGER WHITLOCK – LIVING “OFF THE GRID”
The idea of being self-sufficient can be quite daunting, but Roger will explain alternative power
sources and what can be done to say “Goodbye” to Eskom. Load shedding is here to stay as it will take
Eskom years to address the maintenance backlog. Roger will also advise on easy and simple ways to
save on electricity and water.
SAARP ASSOCIATION
SAARP Head Office in Cape Town is a non-profitable NGO-company and derives its funding from
commissions and advertising. Membership to SAARP is, therefore, free. However, social clubs charge an
annual subscription fee to cover running costs. Lakefield Social Club has a low annual fee of R100 per person
or R150 per couple.
See you at 11h00 on
