Idris Lahore
Ethics and deontology
Founded in 2002 by Idris Lahore, the Free University of Samadeva is a private
educational institution directed by Ennea Tess Griffith and 6 co-founders,
and assisted by a team of around twenty people.
Today the Free University of Samadeva is supporter, both in France and
abroad, by a growing number of partners in different regions.
The Free University of Samadeva
offers trainings addressed to the
general public and also to professionals in the fields of health, the
helping professions, psychology,
education, and well-being.
In the context of the annual programs, many different techniques
and methods are taught, with the
goal of enriching participants in
their personal, essential, and also
professional development.
All of these methods originate in
Samadeva, a traditional Dervish approach of health and well-being. The
techniques of Samadeva are based
on traditional western and eastern
knowledge having their origins in
ancient forms of philosophy, arts,
sciences, and spiritual currents.
The Free University of Samadeva
proposes the cultivation of this
knowledge and practical skills,
considering them to form part of
the cultural heritage of humanity.
Distilling the essence of these techniques, and removing their folkloristic external forms, Idris Lahore has
adapted them to the modern-day
western cultural milieu with the
aid of his collaborators - doctors,
psychologists, physical therapists,
and specialists in song, music, and
dance.
Idris Lahore is the creator of Samadeva,
and through his impulse, the Free
University of Samadeva was founded
and the different branches of Samadeva
created. Since his childhood, Idris Lahore
has been immersed in both eastern and
western traditions and cultures. During
the course of his studies, research, and
teaching, he acquired a vast and profound
knowledge of these traditions as well as
a subtle understanding of the human
psyche.
Following a rigorous training among the
Hakim Dervishes, he was authorized to
transmit the science, art, and wisdom of
the Dervishes.
Thanks to Idris Lahore, a renowned
specialist in the therapeutic tradition and
Origins of the training
art of the Dervishes, we discover Samadeva,
an essential art of harmony, health, and
healing, of personal development and
spiritual realization.
Idris Lahore is the author of many books and
DVDs published in several languages. His
paintings decorate the teaching halls of the
Clos Ermitage, the magnificent manor that
houses the Free University of Samadeva.

Prior to being the medicine of the
Dervishes, Samadeva is above all
a way of wise living and an art
of health and well-being. "Sama"
means "to be attentive and listen";
"deva" means "the forces of nature" - lending an attentive ear to
the forces of nature, of our physical
body, as well as the forces of our
consciousness and the environment, as well as our way of eating
and living. The art, philosophy, and
science of Samadeva as they have
been taught and practiced by the
Dervishes in their secret brotherhoods since the most ancient times
are now accessible to the West.
The ancient wisdom of the Hakim
conferred on them great authority, which was based on their
genuine competence, their nonviolent treatments, and their great
degree of benevolence. The goal
of their methods was to mobilize
the intelligence and wisdom of the
body, allowing the patient's forces
of self-healing to flow through a
minimal stimulation given by the
practitioner. In order to amplify the
possibilities of harmonization, the
patient's responsibility for his own
treatment is always called upon, for
he actively and concretely participates in the healing process.
Samadeva considers that a self-regulating force exists in man that
keeps him naturally in good health;
when this force falls out of balance,
however, it leads to difficulties and
illness. Samadeva acts above all
preventatiely on illness and seeks
to maintain our health, which does
not prevent it from being effective
in many acute illnesses and health
problems, and even more effective
in psycho-somatic illnesses and socalled chronic illnesses, for which it
almost always contributes to improvent, and often to healing.
Samadeva brings forth
the body's inner wisdom
For the Dervishes, Samadeva is also
an art of living that enables us to
know our essential physical, emotional, and intellectual needs, to
understand them, and to give our
life a satisfying direction in order
to find harmony both with ourselves and with other people and the
environment.

Dervish Yoga
The secret of eternal youth
Dervish Yoga for Health
and Longevity
Idris Lahore,
Ennea Tess Griffith,
Emma Thyloch
Publisher: Ibis
Dervish Yoga is an art of movement
inspired by the science of movements
taught for centuries in certain Dervish
brotherhoods and adapted by Idris
Lahore to the men and women of
today. It is a gentle psycho-corporal
practice that has beneficial effects
on the different systems of the body,
on the functioning of our organs, our
muscles, concentration, memory,
sleep, and our entire physical and
psychological equilibrium. It has
remarkable effects on stress, which in
today's world affects all of us.
Dervish Yoga thus allows us to better
adapt to all situations in our personal,
interpersonal, social, and professional
lives by freeing us of the consequences
of stress, and particularly the anxiety
and all the forms of depression that
characterize our society.
Dervish Yoga, also known as Samadeva
Gestural Euphony, draws from ancient
forms of wisdom that integrated the
body, heart, mind, and spirit. "Gestural
Euphony" is the harmony of sound
and movement, since the movements
are practiced with music specifically
com posed for the purpose. "Sama"
in "Samadeva" means to listen or to
dance, and "Deva" means the gods, the
divine. Samadeva Gestural Euphony
proposes that we enter into contact,
through euphonic movement, with
what is most genuine, most profound
in ourselves, and which in certain
traditions is called our "essence."
This takes places through a series
of movements, some of them slow,
others more dynamic, and dances,
relaxations, and exercises, known in
Dervish Yoga as "Arkanas," a word of
Persian origin meaning "process of
transformation."
The fundamental aspect of practice
that
enables
this
beneficial
transformation is attention - attention
to our gestures, our postures, our
breathing, attention to the emotions
that arise within us, and attention to
our thoughts... Practicing euphonic
movements is a privileged occasion
to return to ourselves, to enter into
ourselves in a place of calm where
we are no longer disturbed by our
sensations, emotions, and thoughts,
and where we enter into contact with
our own vital energy which gives us
back our joy and enthusiasm.
Dervish Yoga is addressed to everyone
who enjoys any form of bodily
expression and who understands the
importance of experiencing through
the body, as well as to anyone who
feels separated from their body and
wants to reconcile themselves with it.
Essential Psychology
Liberation of being
We owe its current form to Idris
Lahore, who adapted it on the basis of the Psychoanthropology of
Selim Aissel. What differentiates the
Essential Psychology from forms of
classical psychology is that it involves
the essential - that is, spiritual - dimension of man, beyond his mechanisms of physical, emotional, and intellectual functioning.
However, this spiritual dimension present within man is not accessible to
him at the outset. This hidden part,
that certain traditional teachings call
the "essence," comprises the real nature, the most genuine part of man,
already present in him at birth. But
this essence has been covered over
since childhood, firstly by the veils of
his bodily and animal nature (territorial defense instinct, survival instinct,
greed), and secondly by all the cultural,
family, and religious conditioning and
the conditioning from his education
and the society in which he grew up.
All these patterns of functioning, all
these strategies that have been set
up since our childhood, with which
we enter into relationship with other
people, and all these habits so engrained in us that we have the impression, or illusion, of knowing ourselves,
comprise our personality - from the
Latin word "persona," meaning mask.
A personality that certainly has posi-
tive aspects (in this case we speak of
the true personality with its positive
qualities, all the positive experiences
we have accumulated through all the
different processes of learning in our
lives), but which also has its negative
sides, which we refer to as the false
personality, with its weaknesses and
its negative features, in other words
everything that upholds our ego,
causes our suffering and our difficulties with other people.
The Essential Psychology has the goal
of deepening our knowledge of ourselves, other people, and the world,
and of liberating us from our conditioned ways of functioning in order to
enter into contact with our essence
and realize all the potential of our true
nature. This realization presupposes
that we perceive man's true place, not
only in his environment on earth, but
also in the universe, by understanding the laws that govern the functioning of man and of the universe.
In this way, the Essential Psychology
responds to the Socratic injunction:
"Know thyself and you shall know the
universe and the gods."

Energetic Techniques
Simple, gentle, and remarkably effective
It would be no exaggeration to say that
the Meridian Energetic Techniques
represent a revolution in the treatment and healing of psychological difficulties and treatment of pain. They
are the fruit of the meeting between
Traditional Chinese Medicine, Yunani
Dervish Medicine, and recent discoveries in the Englishspeaking world,
where they are known as "power techniques" and "instant therapies" - the
energetic psychological techniques
related to T.F.T., E.F.T., T.A.T., B.S.F.F.,
as well as scientific research in psychoneuroimmunology (cf. Sheldrake,
Bohm, Diamond, Callahan, Erickson).
To quote Idris Lahore: "Farremoved
from New Age fantasies and
Orientalist folklore, we invite you to
explore these new fields of therapy.
Our approach is serious, pragmatic,
and precise; alternating theory and
practice, it will give you rapid access to
energetic techniques that are simple,
fast, and nevertheless remarkably
effective.
This holistic and non-violent approach makes use of energy as an "informatic interface" between the body,
mind, and psyche. The Samadeva dervish techniques are based on notions
and applied methods familiar to both
contemporary science and traditional
healing approaches: morphic fields
and resonance (the dervish Makam),
the acupuncture meridians (the
Silsilla of the Dervishes), chaos theory,
the body-mind-soul triad, quantum
physics, and cellular memory, among
others...
Physical and psychological troubles
result from the disruption, with a physical, psychological or energetic factor,
of the flow of energy. Our techniques
are meant to remove some blocks
that hinder the flow of energy, and
are conducive hence to physical and
psychological balance.
Above and beyond fragmentation,
there exists a level at which a therapeutic synthesis becomes possible,
where eclecticism is a veritable enrichment, where different forms of
knowledge meet, merge, and complement each other, where techniques,
although deriving from traditional
sources, become revolutionary...".
Psychology of the Enneagram
Know thyself…
The word "Enneagram" comes from
the Greek "ennea," which means "9"
and "grammos," which means "point."
The Enneagram is a symbol that has
been passed on orally in secret, since
the time of the ancient mystery centers, over the centuries. A sacred
symbol containing mathematical
laws, and considered the symbol of
God on earth, the Enneagram is currently known above all as a psychological typology.
The Enneagram teaches us that there
exist nine types of people originating
in nine types of conditioning. Who we
are, or rather who we take ourselves
to be, is the result of our childhood
conditioning, when we understood
that we would be loved, appreciated,
or accepted "if..." we developed certain qualities. But since it is as if these
qualities were forced on us, they are a
source of suffering and cut us off from
our true nature.
Enneatype 1, called the Perfectionist: I
am honest and hard-working. He suffers when caught in the act of making
a mistake.
Enneatype 2, called the helper: I like
and I help the others; he suffers when
the others do not acknowledge his sacrifices or when they can do without
him.
Enneatype 3, called the achiever: I am
successful and efficient.
Enneatype 4, called the individualist: I
am sensitive and different. He suffers,
for he always craves for something he
doesn not have and that other people
have.
Enneatype 5, called the investigator:
I know, and I understand. He suffers
when he feels he is being intruded in
his privacy and when he thinks information is insufficient.
Enneatype 6, called the loyalist: I am
loyal and I do my duty. He suffers
when he or the others do not "obey";
he has difficulties with authority.
Enneatype 7, called the enthusiast: I
am joyful and optimistic. He suffers
whenever he feels frustrated in his
pleasure or whenever he is in contact
with suffering.
Enneatype 8, called the leader: I am
strong and courageous. He suffers
whenever he is weak.
Enneatype 9, called the peace-maker:
I am peaceful and easy-going. He suffers in conflicting situations.

Vertebral and Articular
Manual Treatments
The
Vertebral
and
Articular
Manual Treatments are a set of
therapeutic exercises specifically
designed to treat back and joint
pain. These exercises are known
as the "Therapeutic Arkanas"
and articular selfadjustments.
Simple and effective, they have
a gentle action on the joints and
vertebrae, allowing the nerve flow,
information, and energy to circulate
harmoniously. By respecting the
body's innate wisdom, they enable
the self-regulating and energetic
processes to become very active
and healing once again, in this way
slowing or healing the processes of
degeneration.
The Therapeutic
Arkanas
There are very many therapeutic
Arkanas, several for each joint.
They are based on the combination
of a simple posture, a specific
respiration, and the concentration
on our bodily sensations. They
allow the energy to flow more freely
throughout our entire body, and
specifically in our joints, in the places
where it is blocked. They revitalize
and redynamize our energetic
circulation, making these Arkanas
truly precious techniques for all
the painful aftereffects of sprains
and dislocations, as well as for the
reduction or even disappearance
of all the pains we no longer know
what to do about.
The Articular
Self-Adjustments
Articular
self-adjustments
are simple and easy-to-learn
techniques that allow us to reduce
the microluxations responsible for
many pains that can often make our
lives unbearable. Conceived as selftreatments, they allow us to treat
ourselves or to prevent troubles
caused by unavoidable repetitive
tasks (at our work place, for
example), relax muscular tensions,
heal inflammations, and act on our
brain by sending it messages of
"good functioning."

Ayurveda | SEA
In a healthy organism, all the cells,
organs, systems, and parts of the
body are constantly communicating
with each other harmoniously and
in synchrony. This is known as
"Euphony." The human organism, in
order to preserve its state of health
and wellbeing, and accordingly of
euphony, must necessarily enter into
the same type of harmonious and
synchronous communication with
people, things, the past, the present,
the future, and events: with the totality
of the constituents of his spatial and
temporal environment. According to
SEA, this communication is based on
a good connection between all the
energetic pathways connecting the
cells, organs, and bodily, psychological,
and spiritual systems of man as a
whole.
So SEA is based on the knowledge
of all the energetic systems that
comprise human being, particularly
of the chakras and nadis of the Hindu
yogis, the tan tiens, the meridians of
acupuncture and the Dervish silsillas.
SEA rests on the knowledge and
practical techniques of the traditional
medicine of the Rishis, the wise men
of ancient India. On its basis, Idris
Lahore created an original system of
well-being and health, including the
knowledge of modern science and
kinesiology.
The goal of the technique is to
determine the disturbances in
different energetic systems In order
to correct them. This leads to greater
well-being or a natural improvement
in health.
The basis of the technique is the
use of muscular biofeedback, which
allows the energetic connections to
be made wherever they are disturbed,
whether in the energetic pathways
like the acupuncture meridians, the
nadis of Ayurveda, or in the chakras or
the aura.
Since Energetic Ayurveda has a global
and holistic vision of man, its action
ranges from the physical to the
psychological, from the energetic to
the systemic, and even beyond them,
to the spiritual. This technique can be
used by any professional in the fields
of health and well-being, and also by
Individual practitioners In the private
context of their family and friends.
