Supervised Evening Study 2010
Study will continue for all those interest in Session 2 (Jan – May). This year the organising committee
for Evening Study have broken the year into two. Session 1 is due to end on January 15. Session 2
will run from January 18 to May 28. For 3rd, 5th and 6th year students study runs for two hours 3:45 –
5:45, Monday - Friday at a cost of €3 per day. Any 1st and 2nd years students wishing to continue will
have study from 3:45 – 5:00 at a cost of €2 per day. Evening Study provides an opportunity for all
students to do homework, study for exams, make notes and catch up on class work missed.
The purpose of this notice going out at this time of year is to make you aware that study will be
available should your daughter wish to avail of it. The chart below shows the dates for Session 2. If
there are any changes we will notify students as quickly as possible.

NOTE:
a) Students can attend all 5 days or any number that suits them.
b) Study is organised by the After Study Committee and is normally supervised from the teaching
Staff.
c) The onus in on the Student to attend for those days they committed to. Payments do not carry
forward to the next session. In the event that there is an unexpected closure, credit will be given
in the next session for days lost. Week 32 Session 2 is intended for those days that may be lost
due to adverse weather, strike disruption or other unforeseen circumstances.

Rules for Supervised Evening Study
1. Payment by cheque/Postal Order/Draft, payable to Sancta Maria College in an envelope with
student name, class and Application form. Payment is expected before a student attends.
2. The cost of Study is €3 per day, €2 per day for 1st and 2nd Yrs. (Details on previous page)
3. If there is a difficult financial situation, temporary or otherwise, please inform the school so we may deal
with it sensitively and confidentially. A student will not be excluded on the basis of finance.
4. On days when the school is open, supervised evening study is held each evening from 3:45 to 5:45
Monday to Friday. When there is an early Parent/Teacher meeting study is from 1:00 – 3:00. Students
must be in their seats, ready for study & sign the attendance register.
5. Students must remain for the entire two hours unless a note signed by a parent /guardian requesting
permission to leave is given to the supervising teacher at the beginning of the study session.
6. Students must bring the books needed for the session with them, they may not return to lockers or
classrooms for more books or copies.
7. Student should only leave the room in exceptional circumstance and must ask permission of the
supervisor to do so. Silence is imperative for the study environment, disruptive behaviour will not be
tolerated.
8. Students must remain in the desk allotted to them and must leave the room in a clean and tidy condition
at the end of the session.
9. No food or drink should be consumed in the study room. No MP3 players or iPods allowed. All
mobiles are to be switched off completely. The use of laptops is not permitted.
10. The school takes no responsibility for student welfare after study sessions Monday to Friday. Parents
and Guardians must make their own travel arrangements for students.
11. In the unlikely event of extreme weather conditions or other exceptional circumstances, every effort will
be made to give notice if supervised study has to be cancelled.
12. The Supervising Study Committee, consisting of the Principal and supervising teachers, reserves the
right to bar a student who persistently engages in disruptive behaviour.
13. Usually when the numbers exceed 45 on a particular day a second centre is opened.
