Purpose
The Customer and Corporate Services Group provides services and support that ensure DEWNR is a high-performing and
customer-focused organisation. This Group delivers a diverse range of functions which varies from servicing customers through
the development and administration of leases, showcasing our botanic gardens for the benefit and enjoyment of the community,
providing exceptional visitor experiences at our commercial sites, and providing corporate activities to support the performance
and operation of the organisation, including financial, human resources, business technology and information business
operations and work health and safety services.
About the Branch/Business Unit
Finance and Business Services is a branch within the Customer and Corporate Services Group, Its primary role is to provide
leadership in strategic financial, budgetary and business operations advice, policy and direction. It provides these services and
support to both internal and external stakeholders that ensure DEWNR is a high-performing and customer-focused organisation.
The Branch is a supporting unit to departmental operations and serves to provide a prudent framework for the effective
management of the agencies budget and finances. It plays an important role in assisting the agency to work within a fiscally
constrained environment.
About the Role
The Assistant Budget Accountant Corporate Budgets receives direction from, and works closely with, the Management Accountant
Corporate Budgets to support the delivery of financial reporting, budget management and advice and services, that maximises the
efficient use of resources and supports planning and decision making processes for internal staff including team members and
Branch Managers as well as external stakeholders including the Department of Treasury and Finance.
Key Role Outcomes

Financial support and analysis is provided to deliver timely, relevant and comprehensive budget formulation, forecasting and
reporting services and advice that contributes to improved business decisions and identifies risk and opportunities.

Clients are encouraged to seek, and are provided with practical financial, economic and business advice that assists in
planning and decision making processes.

Quality relationships with key business contacts throughout the agency are maintained and facilitate compliance and
education in relation to departmental financial policies and procedures.

Improvements to financial policies, processes, forecasting and systems are contributed to and implemented.

A service excellence culture within the team is demonstrated by providing effective support and assistance.

Special Conditions

Inter and intra state travel may be required.

May be required to participate in fire management and associated duties.

Some out of hours work may be required to be worked.
Technical, Professional/knowledge and Experience (including qualifications)

Understands the issue or problem that needs to be addressed or solved and can assist with examining the possible causes
and identifying solutions.

Is able to identify inconsistencies or discrepancies in information and raise these variances with the Management
Accountant Corporate Budgets, other team members or other relevant staff.

Seeks input from others with useful knowledge and experience as well as diverse perspectives to help to resolve issues.

Demonstrates a good understanding of accrual accounting principles, standards, policies, guiding reference documents and
practices.

Demonstrates a good understanding of government financial management and reporting processes and policies.

Demonstrates a good understanding of budget formulation, forecasting, analysis of variances and reporting requirements.

Demonstrates the ability to produce timely and accurate information.

Experience in preparation of reports (financial and written).

Experience in using computer software applications and in particular financial management systems.

An appropriate diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance or Business would be considered favourably.
