would share it with you. It is quite long and probably only for a parents eyes.

PROGRESS REPORTS & 3 WAY CONFERENCES
Progress Reports and 3 Way Conferences are coming up. Progress reports
will be sent home on Thursday 2 April and then 3 Way Conferences are
scheduled for Week 10. Our school based Progress Reports and 3 Way
Conferences have an important purpose as they provide you with ‘early
year’ assessment and feedback on your child’s progress, social skills, work
habits and EFFORT which is not in the semester reports.

ACU GRADUATION
Congratulations to two staff members who graduated from ACU last
Friday. Rob Read and James Doepel were awarded Bachelor of Education
(Primary). Congratulations!
SCHOOL WELFARE OFFICER
St Clare of Assisi has been successful in gaining a grant to participate in the
National School Chaplaincy Program (NSCP). Karen Snowball will take on
the role of School Welfare Officer 2 days per week for the remainder of the
year. The roles and responsibilities of our new School Welfare Officer will
include:

NATIONAL ASSESSMENT PROGRAM – LITERACY AND NUMERACY (NAPLAN)The 2014 NAPLAN tests
will be held in Week 3 of Term 2 on Tuesday 12, Wednesday 13 and Thursday 14 May. Please check the following

Congratulations to the following children who attended the Tuggeranong Swimming Championships

MATHS PLAYGROUND
I hope you have all been using the activities that I have been sending through and that you have enjoyed
playing them with your families. This Week’s Maths is all about dice and the fantastic games that you play
with dice. They can be a very powerful mathematical tool and be used in a number of situations. Here are a
couple to get your mind moving.
For Younger Students
Cross out 9
An activity for two to four players.
Equipment: two regular dice, paper and pencil.
Each player writes the numbers 1 to 9 on a piece of paper. The first player rolls the two dice then crosses out
the numbers shown on the dice or the sum of the two numbers.
For example On this roll, the player may cross out 2, 3 or 5 (2 + 3). When six numbers or less are left only a
single dice is used. The player’s turn continues until they cannot cross off any more numbers. The remaining
numbers are totalled and this is the score for that round. After five rounds the player with the smallest total
wins.
For Older Students
Double, half or stay
An activity for two to four players.
Equipment: two different coloured regular dice.
Decide on one coloured dice to represent the tens and the other to represent the ones. Choose a target
number between 5 and 122. Players take turns to roll the dice. Once the dice are rolled a number is formed.
The player then makes a decision to produce a number that is as close as possible to the target number. They
can choose to:
• double their number
• half their number
• keep the number as is
The player closest to the target is the winner.
The aim is to make a total of 100 or as close to 100 as possible.
Players take turns to roll the two dice and combine the numbers with any operation to produce a score.
The player who reaches100 or is closest to 100 is the winner. Encourage players to record their choices and
calculations. For example:

Bringing Up Great Kids
Parents and Carers are invited to Bringing Up Great Kids—a parenting
program developed by the Australian Childhood Foundation for Parents
and Carers of children aged 2—10 years.
This course will give you insights and skills needed to:

Promote positive and nurturing relationships between parents and children

Explore the management of stress in your parenting role

Encourage the development of your child’s positive self-identity

Develop the ability to contain strong emotion and to think through the responses to your child,
rather than give ‘knee-jerk’ reactions

Overcome some of the obstacles that are getting in the way of being the kind of parent you
would like to be

Create opportunities for positive exchanges with your children.
The course is offered 3 hours per week over a 4 week period.

Changes to ACTION Bus Services
on Monday 27 April 2015
From Action Buses
“I am writing to inform you of an important change
to your school bus service on Monday 27 April 2015.
This day has been declared a service holiday for all ACT
Government employees due to Anzac Day (25 April)
falling on a Saturday. However, it is not a gazetted public
holiday for the rest of the ACT.
Unfortunately, due to scheduling constraints we are NOT
able to operate dedicated school services with a Saturday
timetable. The parents of non ACT Government school
children who normally use dedicated school services
will need to make alternative arrangements to get their
children to and from school on Monday 27 April 2015.”
