Too Sick for School?
You may be facing the question, “Is my child too sick for school?” Please keep your child home if they
exhibit any of the following symptoms (which may indicate that your child is contagious):
Fever (above 100.0 degrees F.)
Diarrhea
Vom iting
Thick m ucus draining from the eye or nose
Inability to contain secretions (unable to reliably cough or sneeze in elbow)
Sore throat, especially if combined with fever or swollen neck glands
Rashes unrelated to heat or other known non-communicable causes
Unusual tiredness, paleness, lack of appetite, or irritability
*YOUR CHILD SHOULD BE SYMPTOM FREE FOR 24 HRS BEFORE RETURNING TO SCHOOL*
Without any of these warning signs, the question becomes whether or not your child feels well enough to
function comfortably at school. To talk to a pediatric nurse about your child’s symptoms, call Children’s
Resource Line at 206 987-2500 or Felicia Forrest, RN/WenPei Ridenour, RN, Highland Terrace’s School

Highland Terrace Drama performance “Alice in Wonderland”
It’s another year of a successful drama with Dandylyon Drama presentation of “Alice and
Wonderland”. The staff at Dandylyon were professional and on task during these many months
We are all so proud of our students who performed in the play, creatively worked on the scenery,
helped with lights, and scenery changes. Special thank you to Ms. O’Connell, Mrs. Nordwall, Mrs.
Slinning, and Mrs. Phillips who guided our students for the last several months. Also, all the staff
who had a part in “support roles”, including Carianne Strain who created the program and Pat
Walsh who moved and shuffled furniture everywhere. Two of our parents, Shelley Hogan and
Tiffany Megargee, stepped up at the last minute to help with costume organization during the
dress rehearsal and both play performances. Thank you to Owen Strain who took on the task of
sound technician at the last minute. We could not have done any of this without our wonderful
staff, parents, and students. Great Job! Photos are available on http://tinyurl.com/ht-dandylyonalice. DVD’s are available for $5.00. Order forms are in the office until May 15th.
Congratulations Sophia Staheli!
Highland Terrace 6th grader Sophia Staheli has been inducted into the AAA Crossing Guard Hall of
Fame. The Washington Traffic Safety Commission presented Sophia with an award and gifts last
Friday at the Mariner's game. Included in the gifts was a letter stating our school has been
awarded a $500 mini grant for our crossing guard program. Way to go Sophia!
