Speakers Peter Woolcott is Australia’s Ambassador for the Environment. As part of his portfolio he
leads Australia’s negotiations under the UNFCCC. Mr Woolcott served in a broad range of
senior diplomatic postings and was Chief of Staff to the Minister for Foreign Affairs (2002–04).
David Gruen is the Deputy Secretary, Economic at the Department of the Prime Minister and
Cabinet, and Australia’s G20 Sherpa. He oversights the task force on Australia’s post-2020
emissions targets within PM&C. He previously held senior positions with Australia’s Treasury
and the Reserve Bank.
Frank Jotzo is Associate Professor at ANU Crawford School, where he directs the Centre for
Climate Economics and Policy and the School’s Resources, Environment and Development
program.
Anthea Harris is currently the Chief Executive Office of the Climate Change Authority. Prior to
her appointment, Ms Harris has worked on Climate Change issues for over a decade. She has
previously worked at the Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency, in state
government, at an ECS consulting firm, and the Productivity Commission.
Erwin Jackson is deputy CEO of The Climate Institute. With nearly two decades of
involvement in climate change policy, he has represented non-governmental groups and
advised government and business in national, regional and international fora.
Malte Meinshausen is Director of the Climate & Energy College at the University of
Melbourne, and affiliated with the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research. He is the
author of many influential publications on global carbon budgets and emissions trajectories.
Anna Skarbek is executive director of ClimateWorks Australia. She is also a director of the
Clean Energy Finance Corporation, and a member of a number of reference panels on energy
and sustainability. Her prior career included work as investment banker and policy advisor.
Steve Hatfield-Dodds is senior researcher with CSIRO and adjunct professor at ANU. He
previously worked in senior roles for the Australian government, including the Treasury and
the Department of Climate Change.
Andrew Macintosh is Associate Professor at the ANU College of Law, Centre for Climate
Law & Policy and Chair of the Emissions Reduction Assurance Committee. His research is
focused on institutional dimensions of mitigation and adaptation, particularly in the land sector.
John Hewson is Professor and Chair of the Tax and Transfer Policy Institute at ANU
Crawford School. He has held many senior positions in academia, business, politics and the
public sector. He is chairman of the Asset Owners Disclosure Project.
Peter Castellas is the CEO of the Carbon Market Institute, the peak business association for
assisting Australian businesses in meeting the challenges and opportunities associated with
the transition to a low-carbon economy. Prior to joining CMI, Peter was the Director Carbon,
Sustainability and Cleantech in Corporate Finance at Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu.
Alex Gosman is the CEO of AIGN, a network of industry associations and businesses. Alex
has worked for the Department of Industry and over the past 25 years has had both
Association and company experience in such areas as climate policy, industry development,
telecommunications and pharmaceuticals.
Howard Bamsey is Adjunct Professor at the ANU Regulatory Institutions Network Deputy. He
was Deputy Secretary of Australia's Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency and
the Department of the Environment and Water Resources and Australia's Special Envoy on
Climate Change.
