Charles and Susan Maness have grown roses at their current home for more than 35 years. The original bed of 18
hybrid teas has grown to about 200 roses of all types and has spread to all parts of the landscape. Hybrid teas still
dominate and include old favorites Bewitched, Great Scott and Perfume Delight as well as newer varieties Black
Magic, Gemini, Hollywood Star, Let Freedom Ring, Marilyn Monroe, and St. Patrick. Floribundas include
dependable Easy Going, French Lace, Julia Child, Living Easy, Playboy, Preference and Shockwave. Distant Drums
and Sally Holmes are favorite shrub roses joining Austin shrubs Kathryn Morley, Tamora, and The Squire; some
of these are grown as climbers. The best of the old garden roses are Louise Odier, Mrs. R G Sharman-Crawford,
Rose de Rescht and Yolande d’Aragon. Climbing roses growing on arbors, metal structures and fences include
Altissimo, Berries ‘n’ Cream, Candy Land, Fourth of July, Night Owl, Polka, Purple Splash, Sombreuil and Stormy
Weather. This friendly rose garden invites you to enjoy a leisurely stroll and to take the time to smell the roses.
