Dear Parents/Caregivers,
There is no shortage of big events in our school community. In recent times we have
welcomed the WATOTO Choir, Life Education and our younger students were captivated
by an array of activities at last Friday’s Under 8’s Day celebration. Next weekend, our
school takes centre stage again as our band and choir both perform at the Dayboro Day
Festival. Our P&C will be actively participating with their Chocolate Throw and Chappy
Darren will be offering SnowCones as a fundraiser for the Local Chaplaincy Committee. It
is a great day of entertainment and our school is once again delighted to be involved.
Our Band and School Choir will be performing from 9.00am on the Roderick Cruice
Park Stage.

Under 8’s Day Thankyou
Last Friday children from the Dayboro
Community Kindergarten and Lead Child
Care joined our Under 8s for a morning of
fun and celebration. A big thankyou is
extended to Mrs Jess Hitchens (Year 1H)
who coordinated the event and to our
teachers who organised the wide range of
activities. We also wish to thank the
community organisations and clubs as well
as the students from Bray Park High
School who assisted. Our senior students
represented our school with pride as they
worked with the Under 8’s throughout the
morning. Our emergency services are
always a big supporter of this special day
and
their
attendance
was
much
appreciated. All in all, a very successful morning – well done everyone!
Queen’s Birthday Holiday
Dayboro State School will be closed on Monday 8 June for the Queen’s Birthday holiday.

Our Student Council has decided
upon the themes for this Term’s
Disco event. Our Prep – Year 2
Students are invited to be “Knights
and Princesses” and our Year 3-6
Students are invited to embrace the
70’s theme.
The Prep-Year 2 Disco will be held from 5.30pm7.00pm and the Year 3-6 Disco will be from 7.30pm9.00pm. Our P&C will provide more details in the P&C
news section of the newsletter.

LES BÂTONS FRANÇAIS – FRENCH INTERACTIVE
FRENCH DAY ACTIVITIES—REMINDER
THEATRE SHOW, DRESS UP DAY & SPECIAL
TUCKSHOP LUNCH
Friday 5th June 2015
On Friday 5th June all students have the opportunity to
participate in la journée française. Part of our
celebrations includes French dress-up and all children
are encouraged to participate by dressing in a French
themed costume. There are many possibilities, ranging
from the French colours (dark blue, white and red) to a
French character or an item with a French theme.
Some ideas include: The French flag, King Louis XVI,
Queen Marie-Antoinette, a peasant or revolutionary,
Monsieur Guillotine, Joan of Arc, Napoléon, Babar the
Elephant, Madeline, Miss Clavel, the mime artist Marcel
Marceau, World Cup soccer players, Tour de France
cyclists, Grand Prix car drivers, French Open tennis
players, ballet or cancan dancers, skiers, chefs, snails,
frogs, artists, fashion designers or models, Hunchback
of Notre Dame characters, musketeers, Jacques
Cousteau scuba divers, balloonists, scientists like
Louis Pasteur and Marie Curie, French monuments
or items of food.
There will be a French themed Special Lunch available
at the tuckshop, which will include a variety of delicious
French inspired goodies. Miam! Miam! If your child is
participating in the Special Tuckshop please make sure
you order by the due date.
Finally children in Years 3 to 6 will share in the
French fun by enjoying a one hour theatre performance
on the day starting at 2pm. Les Bâtons Français will be
performing an interactive theatre show. The tradition of
French theatre is used to give the students the
opportunity to explore French culture, people and
places, and to stimulate enjoyment and use of a foreign
language without inhibition. Students in Years 3 to 6
need to remember to bring their $5.50 along to pay for
this special performance.

Final Performance Reminder
Dayboro Voices and Dayboro Stage Band
Dayboro Day this Sunday 31st May 2015, performing 2
DAYBORO DAY MUSIC NEWS
members are to meet Mrs Hughes, Mrs O’Boyle and
Mrs Baskin beside the stage at Roderick Cruise Park
in Dayboro at 8.45am.
The senior Dayboro Voices need to wear their white
polo choir shirt, black long pants and black shoes and
socks and black or white hair accessories, if
necessary.
The band students will need to wear their black
performance uniform; long sleeved black shirt, formal
black pants, black shoes and socks and black or white
hair ties, if necessary. Students who do not wear the
correct uniform WILL NOT perform.
Band students also need to bring their instruments
(ensuring they have relevant cork grease/reeds/oil
etc), music folder and 2 pegs to hold their music in
place. The band students should be practising their 4
performance pieces every night for at least 10 minutes
(“Party Rock Anthem”, “Eye of the Tiger”, “Clash of
Warriors” and “Power Rock”).
We look forward to seeing the Dayboro Voices and
Dayboro Stage Band supporters out in force to cheer
on our musicians.

Year 5 and 6 students received a letter with the
newsletter today regarding the “Talk About It”
Program.
The “Talk About It” Program will be run for our Year 5
TALK ABOUT IT
and 6 students on the 11th and 12th June this year.
The program is designed to assist young people
develop a positive attitude towards their own sexuality
and provides them with information on how to look
after themselves during this stage of their
development. We are fortunate to have very
experienced educators from Life Education
conducting the sessions.
The first lesson will focus on the physical, social and
emotional changes experienced during puberty and
helping students understand and cope with this
important phase of development. The second session
will focus on the characteristics of healthy
relationships, focussing on friendships.
The total cost for the program is $10, payment is due
by Wednesday 10th June 2015.

Knights and Princesses Theme Dress Up!
Dayboro Day is just around the corner! We’ve had a
fantastic response with chocolate donations and
volunteers so far, thank you everyone! We still need a
few more volunteers for our stall, please see below if
you can assist.
Hear ye, hear ye! All brave Knights and fair Princesses!
Come adorned in thy finest wares as we hold court with
merriment and good fare!
Donate chocolates: Thank you everyone who has
brought in chocolates! If you still have some chocolate
to donate, please bring to your classroom by Thursday
28th May. The class who brings in the most chocolate

home baking to our stall on Dayboro Day? Any kind!

favourite recipe! If you bake it, we’ll take it! Packaging

VACANCY—SCHOOL CROSSING SUPERVISOR
The School Crossing Supervisor will be required to
work up to 5 days per week in all weather conditions.
The hours of work for the School Crossing Supervisor
are 30 minutes a day to assist the students to cross
the road in the afternoon.
The current rate of pay is $27.49 per hours.
Commencement of work for the successful applicant
is dependent on:

carried out by a Government Medical Officer.
