20 YEARS, MILLIONS OF HAPPY TASTE BUDS.
A lot has changed since 1995. (Hey, we were just
starting to get on the Internet then.) That was the very
first year of the Epcot® International Food & Wine
Festival, and since then we’ve served some excellent
samples from around the world. This year, we even
have a 20 Years of Food & Wine Timeline for a look at
how the festival has progressed over the years.

CELEBRATING & EXPLORING
LIFE THROUGH FOOD
ABC TV’s “The Chew” shows its culinary flair while filming
at the Epcot® International Food & Wine Festival
O
ver the past four years, the five
amiable hosts of ABC TV’s “The
Chew” have engaged themselves
and their audience in finding out what makes
life pleasurable through food and fun. And
we are excited to welcome them to the
Epcot® International Food & Wine Festival
for an appearance October 7–9. We caught
up with the show’s executive producer, Mark
Schneider, to get his take on what has made
“The Chew” so successful.
Cooking shows have become very popular
over the past few years, and “The Chew”
is no exception. What makes your show
stand out from the rest?
4
The big secret to the success of “The Chew”
has been this wonderful cast who love what
they do and love each other. The five of them
have become very close friends as well as
great colleagues; they invite people to join
that relationship and people appreciate that.
What message do you want viewers to
take away after seeing your show?
Our goal is that the viewer walk away and
say “Wow, I can do that! This makes my
family’s life better.” Because “The Chew”
presents recipes that the average person
can successfully make at home, whether it’s
a new idea for a family meal or a favorite
Ida Mae Astute/ABC TV
We were there last year and participated in a
Mexican Tequila Lunch. I tried a soup with a
hint of tequila in it that was just remarkable.
It knocked me off my feet it was so good!
But, really, everything we sampled was
delicious. I really like what Epcot® does with
the festival. It’s a wonderful way for someone
to start their exploration of different cuisines.
Everyone should be able to discover and
enjoy food. And we at “The Chew” share
that philosophy.

recipe with a different technique. If we can
offer them something to make mealtime
easier, then we’ve succeeded.
“The Chew” will be taping at this year’s
Epcot® International Food & Wine Festival
and we’re all thrilled. You mentioned
you’ve attended in the past. What did you
try that you really liked?

ach year all the silly ghouls and
ghosts visit Magic Kingdom® Park
for an entire spirited season where
the scares aren’t startling and Halloween
is celebrated in grand fashion!
Don’t be frightened—the fun doesn’t

Party potion. Be wary—all the special
spell ingredients required can only be
found with the evilest of villains from
the deepest and darkest corners of Walt
Disney World® Resort. The stage and
castle will be illuminated with countless
candles and at the heart of it all, a magical
cauldron with some ideas of its own.
Leave no
sweet tooth behind
If you take a shine to sweets, Mickey’s
Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is just
what you’re looking for. This year there
will be 261 tons of candy all ready to be

HAKUNA MATATA
MEANS NO WORRIES!
Only love, joy and music at the Festival of the Lion King show.
T
here’s something about Festival
of the Lion King—the music, the
performers, the staging and the
overall celebratory feeling—that seems
more electrifying with every performance.
The beauty of this musical tribute to
a young lion’s journey of discovery is
the masterful way in which the show’s
performers draw you in to their lush,
exotic world through warm interaction
and audience participation. They keep
you engaged in every aspect of the story
without attempting to retell it. Their
vibrant, richly colored costumes and
dynamic choreography celebrate the
culture and soul of the land from which
this story emanates.
The rascally Timon starts things off by
leading everyone in singing “Hakuna
Matata.” He then introduces his frolicking
pals, the very agile and sprightly Tumble
18
Monkeys—a show favorite. These highly
trained acrobats perform Olympic-style
feats in sync to a jazz melody.
Then, suddenly, the lively ambience turns
to dark foreboding when the dastardly
hyenas take the stage during an ominous
rendition of “Be Prepared,” which
features an electrifying fire dance. But
love literally soars above it all when the
Flying Bird performers, clad in radiant
color and plumage, bring “Can You Feel
the Love Tonight" to the highest heights
in sheer balletic splendor.
ALL COME TOGETHER
IN A CIRCLE OF LIFE
Of course, the central theme of the
story is how everything is connected in
the circle of life. And the beauty of that
principle is splendidly evoked when you
hear “Circle of Life” being sung and
see all the entertainers dressed as the
animals take the stage for the finale.
Timon then leads everyone in singing
“The Lion Sleeps Tonight” with the
Tumble Monkeys performing for all.
There are performances of Festival of
the Lion King throughout the day at the
Harambe Theatre in Disney’s Animal
Kingdom® Theme Park. Be sure to
check your Times Guide. The show can
be booked—based upon availability—
through Disney FastPass+ on the My
Disney Experience mobile app.
Come and relive the excitement at
Festival of the Lion King...It ain’t no
passing craze!

philosophy behind the yummy goodness
before returning to Florence, Italy.
The original Florence-based location was
started by her grandfather Raffaello 85
years ago, and she continues to use the
same family recipes with locally sourced
fresh ingredients and no additives or
flavoring. “In that first bite, you have to
understand what you’re eating right away.
It’s the way my grandfather ran things.”

So what is the difference between gelato
and ice cream? For the uninitiated,
gelato has less butterfat and cream than
ice cream. Gelato is also denser because
it contains less air and is also served
slightly warmer than ice cream. The result
is a richer, more flavorful encounter. The
gelato here is made from scratch daily,
with a rotating menu of flavors plus a
few favorites, like chocolate and vanilla,
always available.

Silvana Vivoli is excited for you to
experience Vivoli il Gelato because to

gelato maker Silvana Vivoli would use
“simple,” “fresh” and “traditional.”
“I want people to know what real
Italian gelato is. Freshness and the best

she says.

LOOK AT JOCK LINDSEY’S
HANGAR BAR
This supporting character from Raiders of the Lost Ark
is coming soon to Disney Springs.
I
Idol and many other Indy adventures,
he came back and founded this travelseasoned lounge.
Jock Lindsey, pilot ace and compatriot
to Indiana Jones, stumbled upon
Disney Springs™ while searching for
the Fountain of Youth. After finding
(and losing) the Chachapoyan Fertility
THERE IS ALWAYS SOMETHING
NEW TO DISCOVER
f you’re searching for curiosities from
a lifetime of adventure, you’ll find your
fill at the Hangar.

The drinks, meals and each section of
the Hangar are themed and flavored to
unique regions that Jock has seen with
Indy and without. No matter how many
times you visit, there is always something
new to discover among Jock’s mementos
and valuables.
In addition to the finer details of each
dining and drinking section, you’ll
discover larger pieces of Jock’s personal
collection. Look to the rafters and you’ll
see remnants of travel-worn planes;
outside you’ll find his steamer, “Reggie,”
named after his favorite pet snake.
Every corner of Jock Lindsey's Hangar
Bar is eccentric, peculiar and charmingly
unrefined. Discover it for yourself when it
opens this fall.
