His musicological interest is focused on the keyboard performance
practice of the 16thth to 18th centuries, especially ornamentation, and he
has published several articles on the subject. Several of his students at UP have won bursaries, including the
UNISA Stephanus Zondagh Organ Scholarship, which have enabled them to pursue their studies in the
USA, the Netherlands and France. One of these, Herman Jordaan, won the first prize at the prestigious St
Albans International Organ Competition in 2003. As a concert organist he has performed nationally and
internationally in the USA, United Kingdom, The Netherlands, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Germany and
the Czech Republic. Highlights include a concert in the Westminster Abbey in London in 2006, and joining
seven international organists in 2011 who performed the complete organ works of Jehan Alain at Wichita
State University. He also participated in the inauguration of two important organs on the UP campus, that of
the Aula and the UP Chapel. He has recorded 10 commercial and live CD’s, amongst others with his
colleague violinist Zanta Hofmeyr. In 2013 the Huberte Rupert Prize for Classical Music was awarded to him
