Topic:
Removal of jammed tachograph cards from the digital tachograph DTCO 1381
1. General Information
2. Description of the tachograph card removal
3. Return form
1. General Information
It can occur that inserted tachograph cards are no longer automatically ejected from the DTCO 1381.
Reasons:
• Functional faults due to overvoltage or low voltage
• mechanically damaged or deformed tachograph cards
• Internal fault (electronics, mechanics)

Procedure
1. Switch on the ignition.
2. Press the ejection button of the corresponding card slot.
If the message ", the voltage applied to PIN A3 might be missing.
It is also possible that the supply voltage of PIN A1 is too low (low voltage) or too high (overvoltage).

Low voltage:
• 12 V version: typ. 10.0 V (min. 9.4 V; max. 10.2 V)
• 24 V version: typ. 14.0 V (min. 13.4 V; max. 14.6 V)
As soon as the voltage supply of the DTCO 1381 increases once more to above the following limit value
into the specified range, the DTCO 1381 returns to the normal operating mode:
• 12 V version: typ. 10.6 V ± 1 %
• 24 V version: typ. 16.0 V ± 1 %
If the voltage supply of the DTCO 1381 continues to drop, the DTCO 1381 switches to the "Power
interruption" mode.
Overvoltage:
• 12 V version: typ. 17.5 V (min. 16.4 V; max. 18.6 V)
• 24 V version: typ. 35.0 V (min. 33.0 V; max. 37.0 V)
If a fault due to the power supply can be ruled out, the tachograph card must be manually removed from
the card slot.
3. If possible, first generate a printout of the “Technical Data“ and enclose this with the return form.
4. Cut off the power to the DTCO 1381 and remove it.
5. Open the seal (red works seal) at the front panel and remove the screw underneath.
(Torx screwdriver TR 8)
If this is done without authorisation, the guarantee shall be invalidated!
Please state the reasons for removing the seal on the return form!
6. Slide the floor of the housing back and remove.

7. Using a suitable, blunt tool (e.g. ballpoint pen) to turn the motor cog of the respective card slot in a
counterclockwise direction until the tachograph card can be drawn out of the slot by hand.

8. Replace the floor of the housing and fasten it with the screw.
9. Return the device with the completed return form and the printout of the” Technical Data“ to Siemens
VDO for a diagnosis.
10. If the tachograph card is not mechanically damaged or deformed, check the function of the card in the
next DTCO 1381.
The next time the card is inserted, the following message appears once in the display:
" (card slot 1) or
" (card slot 2)
Acknowledte this message with OK.
Do not use damaged tachograph cards again!
Important
3. Return form
Please use the attached form for returns.
Include a printout of the technical data.
