Tule mukaan juhlimaan!
Tiedekuntamme täyttää nyt syksyllä 50 vuotta. Haluamme juhlia tätä
rajapyykkiä yhdessä vuosien saatossa toimintaamme osallistuneiden
kesken. Juhlat järjestetään 6.11.2015. Kaikille avoin päiväjuhla alkaa
klo 12:00 Agoran Martti Ahtisaari -salissa ja iltajuhla tiedekunnan
henkilökunnalle ja kutsuvieraille klo 18:00 alkaen Rantasipi
Laajavuoressa. Iltajuhlan illalliskortin hinta on 30€, joka sisältää
alkumaljan, buffetruokailun ja illallisjuomana viiniä sekä tietysti myös
muita virvokkeita. Iltatilaisuudessa esiintyy valtakunnan eturivin

Opiskelijat juhlivat tiedekunnan 50 vuoden taivalta cocktailtilaisuuden merkeissä 3.11.2015. Tilaisuus on tarkoitettu
tiedekunnan opiskelijoille ja järjestetään tiedekunnan ja sen alaisten
ainejärjestöjen yhteistyönä. Tilaisuudessa päästään nauttimaan
livemusiikista. Lisätietoa on luettavissa täällä.

Opetussuunnitelmakauden 2017–2020 valmistelu käynnistynyt
Rehtori on päättänyt Jyväskylän yliopiston linjauksista seuraaviin opetussuunnitelmiin. Linjauksista eniten
koko tiedekuntaa koskettavat hakukohteiden vähentäminen ja laaja-alaiset kandidaatin tutkinnot,
monitieteisyys ja geneeristen taitojen sisällyttäminen opetussuunnitelmiin. Tiedekunnan opetuksen
kehittämisryhmä tarttuu asiaan kokouksessaan viikolla 43. Tiedossa on työntäyteinen syksy ja talvi, koska
yliopiston hallitus päättää vuoden 2017 hakukohteet ja aloituspaikat huhti–toukokuussa 2016.
Jyväskylän yliopiston ensimmäisenä askeleena vastata uusiin ja muuttuneisiin vaatimuksiin päätettiin
opetussuunnittelun tekniseksi työvälineeksi hankkia Peppi-järjestelmä, joka tarjoaa palveluja niin
opetuksen suunnittelijalle kuin opettajallekin.

Tohtoriopiskelijoiden ohjausasiakirjat
Yliopiston tutkijakoulu on suositellut ohjausasiakirjojen käyttöönottoa jo syksystä 2013 lähtien. MLTK:n
tohtorikoulu suosittelee ohjausasiakirjan käyttöönottoa jokaisen tohtoriopiskelijan kohdalla. Erityisesti on
muistettava, että allekirjoitettu ohjausasiakirja, josta löytyy selvitys eri tiedekuntia edustavien ohjaajien
työnjaosta, on edellytys kompensaation saamiselle kahden tai useamman tiedekunnan välisissä tohtorin
tutkinnoissa.

Kehitetään yhdessä viestintää!
Tiedekunnan viestintää on kehitetty kuluvan vuoden aikana. Näkyvin esimerkki on tästä kuukausittain
ilmestyvä uutiskirje. Lähitulevaisuuden tavoitteita ovat tiedekunnan ja laitosten verkkosivujen
uudistaminen sekä alumniyhteistyön aloittaminen. Työn alla ovat tiedekunnan henkilökunnalle suunnatut
intrasivut ja laitosten viestintäyhdyshenkilöiden nimeäminen. Lisäksi mietimme parhaillaan tutkimussivujen
uudistamista ja yhtenäistämistä. Jos sinulla on toiveita tai kehittämisideoita liittyen viestintään,
www-sivuihin tms., lähetä sähköpostia Elinalle.

Ajankohtausta tiedekunnassa
Tiedekunnan kehittämispäivä 7.10.2015
Tiedekunnan palvelukeskus pitää kehittämispäivän Konneveden tutkimusasemalla keskiviikkona 7.10.
Tiedekunnan ja laistosten toimistot ovat tällöin poikkeuksellisesti koko päivän kiinni. Lisätietoa
kehittämispäivästä marraskuun uutiskirjeessä.
Tarvitsetko valokuvaajaa?
Tarvitsetko valokuvaajaa tallentamaan tapahtuman kohokohtia tai ihan mitä vaan, mikä tuntuu tärkeältä.
Tiedekunnassamme työskentelee siviilipalveluksessa Saku Mattila, joka tulee mielellään kuvaamaan. Jos
tarvitset hyvää valokuvajaa, ota yhteyttä Sakuun.
Uusien opiskelijoiden palaute
Tänä syksynä opintonsa aloittaneilta kysyttiin, miksi he valitsivat Jyväskylän yliopiston matemaattisluonnontieteellisen tiedekunnan opiskelupaikakseen. Ylivoimaisesti tärkeimmät syyt olivat Jyväskylän
maantieteellinen sijainti sekä myönteinen kuva Jyväskylän kaupungista. Lisäksi valintaan vaikuttivat varma
tieto tulla valituksi todistuksella, Jyväskylän yliopiston ja laitoksen hyvä maine. Tarkempi yhteenveto on
nähtävillä täällä.
Tohtorikoulutettavien haku
Uusien tohtorikoulutettavien haku aukeaa marraskuussa. Tavoitteena on saada haku auki viikolla 46. Sekä
työsuhteisten tohtoriopiskelijoiden että pelkkien jatko-opinto-oikeuksien haku toteutetaan Saimajärjestelmän kautta.

Nanoscience Days 2015
Nanotiedepäivät järjestetään 22.–23.10.2015 Agorassa. Tapahtuma on avoin kaikille nanotieteiden
tutkijoille. Nanotiedepäivät ovat ilmaiset, mutta vaatii rekisteröitymisen.
Nanokoulu julkaisee sarjan nanotieteen esittelyvideoita
Jyväskylän yliopiston opettajankoulutuslaitoksen Nanokoulu-projektissa on tuotettu kuuden videon sarja,
jossa nanotieteen tutkijat kertovat ja esittelevät työtään laboratoriossa.
Kansainvälinen kesäkoulu 2016
MLTK:n ja IT-tiedekunnan yhteinen kesäkoulu (26th Jyväskylä Summer School) järjestetään ensi kesänä
3.–19.8.2016. Ohessa kesäkoulun järjestelytoimikunta. Laitosten toivotaan järjestävän 3–5 kurssia.
Kurssiehdotukset laitoksesi yhdyshenkilölle tai osoitteeseen [email protected] 30.10.2015 mennessä.

Hankkeessa suunnitellaan ja toteutetaan toisen asteen opiskelijoille suunnattuja tutustumiskursseja.

Keskustelutilaisuus Äänekosken biotuotetehtaan edustajien kanssa 16.11.
Rehtori Matti Manninen ja vararehtori Kaisa Miettinen kutsuvat kaikkia Äänekosken biotuotetehtaan
kanssa yhteistyötä tekeviä, sitä suunnittelevia tai yhteistyöstä kiinnostuneita tahoja yhteiseen
keskustelutilaisuuteen maanantaina 16.11.2015 klo 16.00–18.00. Tilaisuudessa biotuotetehtaan johtaja
Camilla Wikström ja tutkimusjohtaja Niklas von Weymarn kertovat tehtaan toiminnasta ja yliopiston tutkijat
kertovat omista hankkeistaan. Ilmoittautuminen tilaisuuteen Marjo Havilalle 23.10. mennessä. Tilaisuus
järjestetään siten, että yliopiston tutkijoille varataan aikaa esitellä omia hankkeitaan tai suunnitelmiaan.

H2020-valmistelurahoitus
Tutustu Horisontti 2020 hankkeiden valmistelurahoitukseen. Tarjolla matka-rahaa ja hakemusten
kommentointiapua.

Muistathan tarkistaa kuluvan vuoden Tutka-tietonne (julkaisut, ulkomaiset vieraat ja muut tiedot) ennen
vuoden vaihteen kiireitä.
PhD studies Survey in Finnish Universities
PhD studies in Finnish Universities have not been mapped before in a nationwide survey. In order to better
understand the different situations of PhD students this survey has been developed, the results are used
as guidelines for PhD associations in university politics and also for PhD program coordinators for
educational development. Please support our cause by taking 7–15 min. of your time and answer the
survey and let’s improve PhD studies at least for future generations.
Apurahoja ulkomaalaisille opiskelijoille
Jyväskylän yliopisto julistaa haettavaksi apurahoja ulkomaalaisille tutkinto-opiskelijoille. Hakukierroksella
jaetaan enintään 25 kpl 1500 euron arvoista stipendiä. Niitä voivat hakea Jyväskylän yliopiston
kansainväliset perustutkinto-opiskelijat (kandidaatti- ja maisteriopiskelijat), jotka ovat opiskelleet
Jyväskylän yliopistossa vähintään yhden lukuvuoden ja suorittaneet vähintään 60 op/lukuvuosi.
Hakulomake löytyy kv-palvelujen sivuilta tai sen voi noutaa kv-palveluista. Haku päättyy 30.10.2015.
Opiskelijalla mahdollisuus tienata 300€
Jyväskylän yliopiston tiedemuseon ja JYYn pro gradu -näyttelyt alkavat. Gradunäyttelyiden tarkoituksena
on esitellä tiedemuseon tiloissa opiskelijoiden opinnäytetöitä. Tiedemuseo myöntää 300 euron palkkion
näyttelyyn valitulle työlle. Vapaamuotoiset hakemukset tulee lähettää JYYn opinto- ja tiedevaliokunnan
puheenjohtajalle,

Our Faculty turns 50 this autumn so there’s a reason to celebrate! We want to celebrate this major
occasion with everyone who have participated in our action during the years. The celebration will take
place on 6th of November. The day ceremony will begin at 12:00 in Agora’s Martti Ahtisaari hall and is
open for public. The evening ceremony for staff and guests of the Faculty will be held at Rantasipi
Laajavuori at 06:00pm. The dinner voucher for the evening event will be 30€ which includes welcome
toast, buffet and wine and other beverages. A Finnish leading band will perform in the evening event. More

Students celebrate the 50 year anniversary by a cocktail event at Tanssisali Lutakko on 3rd of November.
The event is organised by the faculty in collaboration with the student organisations. The program consists
of congratulatory acts and some live music. More information.
The curriculum for semesters 2017–2020 has begun
The Rector has decided about the policies that will be used for following curricula (only in Finnish). The
greatest influence on the Faculty is on the decisions to reduce the applicable degrees and increase
comprehensiveness of Bachelor’s degrees, meaning the iclusion of more multidisciplinary studies and
generic skills into the curricula. The Faculty Development Team will discuss it on its next meeting on the
week 43. Next autumn and winter will be quite busy, because the University Administration decides the
degrees to apply for year 2017 and the intake limits for 2017 in April - May 2016.
As a respond to new and changed requirements, it was decided that Peppi-program would be acquired as
a technical tool. The program offers services as well for the curriculum planners and teachers.

The guidance documents of doctorate students
The Doctoral School of the University recommends commissioning of the guidance documents from the
autumn 2013. The Doctoral School recommends that the Faculty commissions these on each and every
doctorate student. It’s especially important to remember that a signed document, in which you can find
description of the division of work of people from different faculties, is a requirement for compensation for a
doctoral degree studied between two or more faculties.
Let’s improve the communication together!
The Faculty’s communication has been under development over the past year. The most visible sign of
this has been the monthly newsletter. In the near future, the objectives are the improvement of Faculty’s
and Departments’ websites and the alumni cooperation. Under the development are as well the infra-sites
for personnel and the nomination of the communication coordinators of the departments. In addition, we
are planning the improvement and integration of the research sites. If you have some kind of improvement
suggestions, send email to Elina.

The Development Day of the Faculty on 7th of October
The Administration Services of the Faculty organizes a development day for the personnel at Konnevesi
Research Station on Wednesday 7th of October. The offices of the Faculty and Departments are closed for
the day because of this. More information about the day on November’s newsletter.
Do you need a photographer?
Do you need a photographer to capture the higlights of different events or to capture something else that
feels important? At the moment, Saku Mattila, undergoing the civil service, works at the Faculty office and
gladly comes to photograph. If you need a great photographer, be in contact with him.
Feedback from new students
A survey was run among the new students of the reasons to select Faculty of Mathematics and Science,
University of Jyväskylä as a study place. Based on the survey the most important reasons were the
location of Jyväskylä, and the positive image of the city of Jyväskylä. In addition, the knowledge to become
selected on the grounds of the certificate of matriculation as well as the reputation of the University and
the department were among the most important reasons. More information is available here.
Call for doctoral positions
Call for doctoral positions will open on November. The aim is that the positions open for application on the
week 46. The application process will be carried out by using the Saima recruitment system.
Application for Bachelor Degrees of Subject Teacher’s training and Nanoscience
The application ended on 10th of September, 2015. The places for Subject Teacher’s Bachelor Degree
were filled followingly:
Biology: 5 students
Physics: 8 students
Chemistry: 8 students
Mathematics: 3 students (+ 20 students were approved in the spring application period)
The intake for biology is 5 students and for physics, chemistry and mathematics, it is 50 in total.

Welcome to Nanosience Days 2015! Now, all the topics, and most of the abstracts for the talks are online.
The Jyväskylä Summer School 2016
The 26th Jyväskylä Summer School will be organized by the faculty of mathematics and and science and
the faculty of information technology on 3rd – 19th of August, 2016. The departments are requested to
organize 3–5 courses. In case you are interested in organizing a course, please contact your department's
contact person or send email for the address [email protected]. The deadline is 30th of October. The summer
school offers an excellent opportunity for example to graduate students to obtain credit points from
high-quality courses on their own field of research and to build a contact network.
Science Council supports applications for EU funding
Financial support to travel expenses related to project preparation and for commenting the project
proposal.

Remember to check your Tutka issues (publications, foreign guests and other details) by the end of the
year.
PhD studies Survey in Finnish Universities
PhD studies in Finnish Universities have not been mapped before in a nationwide survey. In order to better
understand the different situations of PhD students this survey has been developed, the results are used
as guidelines for PhD associations in university politics and also for PhD program coordinators for
educational development. Please support our cause by taking 7–15 min. of your time and answer the
survey and let’s improve PhD studies at least for future generations.
Scholarships for international degree students
The University of Jyvaskyla invites applications for scholarships for international degree students. Up to
25 scholarships of EUR 1500 will be awarded. The applicants should be registered as undergraduate
(Bachelor or Master) students at the university and should have studied here for a minimum of one

academic year and completed minimum 60 ECTS credits per academic year. The application form is
available on the website of the International Office or at the International Office. The deadline is 30th of

Students have an opportunity to make 300€
The Pro gradu expeditions of the Natural History Museum of the University and JYY are beginning. The
meaning of the Pro gradu expeditions is to present students’ Master’s theses in the spaces of the
Museum. The Museum will grant a 300€ reward for a chosen thesis. Open applications should be sent to
the head of study and science committee of JYY, Teemu Vasama. The application period is 22.9.–
18.10.2015. The chosen are informed personally by the end of October.
