President’s report – March 2015
Another Annual Shareholder’s meeting has come and gone and new Board of Directors has been installed. A few
observations: The turnout, both in person and by proxy, was remarkable. The owners of 314 Terra Siesta families
came together to express their opinions on a variety of issues of concern to us all. Some issues were decided positively,
others were not. But whatever your feelings the most important thing is that we all got to express ourselves through
our votes.
The two proposed additions to our By-laws were voted down. This eliminates any consideration of the building of a
pet exercise area and soliciting bids for park-wide mowing of shareholder lots. While the vote on mowing was close
among those who cast ballots, it was nowhere near the 264 ‘yes’ votes required for passage. I suspect that as more of
us become full-time residents this issue may be re-visited.
The proposal to designate ‘Live Oaks Park’ as a recreational area passed overwhelmingly, as did the proposal to
make the pet restrictions the same park-wide. The board will take up these issues in the near future.
Finally, the question about re-naming Woods Hall was voted down. The actual vote totals on each issue are listed
by the Election Committee elsewhere in the newsletter.
Your new Board of Directors was also installed at the Annual Meeting. Skip Goodwin, Dick Hunt and I were
replaced by myself, Keith Chamberlain and Stanley (Stosh) Sawkins. Thanks go out to Skip and Dick for their
dedicated service.
I’m happy to announce that ex-board member Dick Hunt has agreed to head-up an effort to re-write major portions
of our governing documents. Dick is excellently qualified to do this. He has great patience and a knack for grasping
the tricky details involved in the project. This is a long-term project and we all owe Dick our thanks for taking it on.
Please keep coming to the office and up-date your information. We need this information in order to create the new
directory and it is very helpful when we must contact you or your relatives in case of an emergency. The information
form is tucked-in to this newsletter. Remember to sign the back to give us permission to publish your name and
number in the new park directory.
Finally, we have had several ‘near-misses’ where golf carts or cars almost hit people on foot after dark. Please when
you are out after dark take a light or at least were light-colored clothing or clothing with reflective material on it. “The
life you save may be your own!”
Thanks to everyone

Were you there? We were 110 strong this month
for potluck. What a great turn out we had. And, what
great food we had!! It was just wonderful.
Everyone is now bringing LARGE dishes
to share and what a difference it makes.
We know that on occasion we have
gone home a little hungry as the bowls
get a little shallow towards the end
of the line. This is true, however this
month, many of the bowls were empty but even for the
last person through the line, there was plenty of "small
portions" left to choose from. And of course the deserts
were wonderful. I was the last one through the line and
trust me, I DID NOT go home hungry!
Our next Potluck will be Wed, March 11th. Woods
Hall. 5:00pm
Bring a dish to share that will feed approximately 10
people Bring your own place setting Bring a neighbor

SUNDAY. SHOW. SERIES
Betty Higgs, chairperson
So far the season seems to be a
success. From all reports, everyone
loved Dave and Daphne. And then
we heard from Katie Brooks. What a
ball of fire she was. And she did just like
I promised , she stole your hearts in the first
2 minutes. And a special treat for us, with
Katie, were her parents, Carolyn and Hugh Brooks. They
are the people who started Re-Creation back in 1976. It
was fun to have them here with us.
Our last show for this series will be Sunday, March
15, just 2 days before St. Patty's Day. I say that because,
very Irish, KEN McBRIDE will be here. I guess the best
I can say is, don't take my word for it......as soon as the
signs went up, I had 3 residents wanting tickets because
they had seen him up north and loved him. Then, I
received a call from another park wanting 20 seats!! So
don't miss out, come and see why everyone else thinks
he is so good!!
Yes, there will be tickets available at the door. $12.00
each. Doors open 6:30PM
NEXT SEASON RESERVED SEATS: Please let me
know by April 1 if you want to reserve seats, or if you
already have reserved seats, do you want to KEEP them
for next season. After April 1, I will begin moving seats
for those requesting a seat change.
See you Sunday, March 15th,

PANCAKES
COMEDY SHOW
Joan Haywood
I've booked Homer Noodleman, my favorite comedian
for a show. This is my gift to all of you for free. Had
him last March and some of his stuff will be a repeat but
as last year he had an equipment failure he was not able
to use the stuff in the 3 big cases on the right side of the
stage.
I will be reserving some of the front seats for friends
who help me out so if you are tall, dark, and handsome,
male, single, have a sailboat, like to cook, can drive at
night, and like to go to musicals, please give me a call so
I can add you to my reserve list.
Really if you have any questions call me on my cell
phone 269-948-8743.
THANK YOU
I would like to thank everyone for their concern and
prayers in November for my recovery. It’s so nice to live
in this community of caring friends.

The facts behind St. Patrick and his day
For many people, St. Patrick represents an excuse to wear green on March 17, maybe go to a parade, and drink some
Irish whiskey. But who was St. Patrick in real life?
The most common belief is that he drove the snakes out of Ireland. Ireland probably never had snakes, though,
and the myth may refer to Patrick’s efforts to stamp out the serpent imagery used by the Druids. He also may have
used the three-leafed shamrock to illustrate the concept of the Holy Trinity to the people he was trying to convert to
Christianity as a missionary in Ireland during the fifth century.
Historians agree that Patrick was born in Roman-occupied Britain, the son of a Christian deacon. At age 16 he was
captured and taken to Ireland, where he was a slave for six years.
During this time, his Christian faith strengthened. One day, according to a letter he wrote about his early life, he
heard a voice promising he would soon return home. Shortly afterward he escaped his captors and went back to his
family.
He later wrote that an angel appeared to him in a dream, telling him to return to Ireland as a missionary. Patrick
went back to the land where he had been a slave to convert the Irish and to minister to those Christians living there.
Why do we celebrate him on March 17? That’s believed to be the date of his death. Although never formally
canonized, Patrick came to be considered a saint. March 17 was celebrated as a religious holiday until 1903, when it
became a public holiday in Ireland by an act of the British Parliament.
