INNOVATIVE SMART FACTORIES NETWORKING CONFERENCE

WHAT:
 In October 2012, Switzerland and Sweden launched the high technology platform SwissSwedish Innovation Initiative (SWII)

Next SWII activity is the Innovative Smart Factories Networking Conference (ISFC), which
matches the R&D heaviest Swiss & Swedish MNEs, SMEs & academia with the goal to launch
joint market oriented R&D projects

The conference topic is Smart Factories due to the following:
o Demographics & global market competition are major drivers behind the large efforts
in Europe & the US to re-industrialize & digitalize the manufacturing industry
o "Internet of Things”, additive manufacturing (i.e. 3D printing), integration of whole supply chains, and application of “big data” in the management of manufacturing are enabling technologies for industrial renaissance
o Advanced automation & interaction between automation and skilled humans are key
factors for success & organizational changes are needed
o Some of the expected effects of Industry 4.0 are radical cost reductions, optimal use
of the available workforce & increases in manufacturing flexibility


o 17 R&D consortia and projects realized with a total project value of 20MEUR
o 1000% increase in approved and financed Swiss-Swedish market oriented R&D projects
o 600% increase in submitted qualitative Swiss-Swedish R&D project applications
o Ca 400 high profile participants from organizations such as Volvo Construction
Equipment, Eaton Group, Volvo Cars, Sandvik, Hexagon, ABB, Ericsson, Saab &
many more
o Almost 600 one-to-one meetings have been carried out onsite at the SWII conferences
