May 2013
FPA of Long Island Chapter Program Meeting
Wednesday, May 8th, 2013
5:30—8:30 PM
DINNER MEETING
Hour 1. Long Term Care Planning—
Are Your Clients Prepared
The Milleridge Inn
585 North Broadway
Jericho, NY 11753
(NYCR-212430 for 1 hour of NYS Insurance CE)
Brian Hill—Nationwide Financial
This course will focus on the long-term care market and how a
rider added to a life insurance policy may be just the strategy many
people need to help reach their financial planning objectives. We
will focus on the fact that without proper planning, long-term care
can be the greatest threat to financial security. That threat is not
just due to nursing home costs. In fact, most people will never be
in a nursing home, because 80% of long-term care is extended care at home or in the
community like assisted living and adult day care. Planning for long-term care needs is
essential to any financial plan and yet is overlooked. People instinctively protect
themselves in case their house burns down or they are in a car accident, but there is
actually a far greater chance they’ll need long-term care assistance. Utilizing a life
insurance policy and Long-Term Care rider in combination, offers your clients a number of advantages that traditional long-term care funding options do not.
Hour 2. Multiple Employer Pension Plans
(NYCR-213002 for 1 hour of NYS Insurance CE)
Morris Glazer, Transamerica Retirement Solutions,
Regional Vice President
Sometimes, small businesses are simply unable to provide quality
retirement plan benefits to their employees. The goal of this seminar
is to review the history of the Multiple Employer Pension Plan and
how recent legislative initiatives to encourage plan participation, tax
incentives and simplified plan designs may not be enough to increase
plan sponsorship by individual small business clients. We’ll explore
how a Multiple Employer Plan can help a small business enjoy the tax
incentives of participation, the economies of scale of a large pool,
and the lifting of the burdensome administrative roles and responsibilities. We’ll also
take a look at how the Multiple Employer Plan addresses the fiduciary responsibilities
of the qualified retirement plan sponsor. An in-depth examination of a Success Story
will help illustrate the growth and opportunities of Multiple Employer Plans and the
impact on the qualified retirement plan industry. More and more often, these plans
are being seriously considered in order to satisfy this ever growing market segment
and strengthen support of the small business owner.

The first quarter of 2013 is now behind us, we
have survived another tax season, and yet as
FPALI continues on its quest to remain your
foremost resource for networking, professional
growth, and continuing education, many
changes are currently still in the making. Our
calendar of events has departed from the
usual third Wednesday of each month dinner
meeting, to now include a variety of meeting
times including morning/breakfast meetings held at a variety of
venues. Our intention has not been to offer a calendar riddled
with confusion, but rather to make convenient offerings available
to a larger number of our members.
May first brought with it the ability to register for our events
online as well as the ability to enter credit card information and
pay fees for attendance directly on the system. This is a change
that we have been working to bring about for quite some time.
Try it out and see how user friendly it is, and how easy it can be
to register with these new tools.
Our networking events have been a huge success drawing from
25 – 45 attendees to each event. We strongly recommend you
join us and see what all the buzz is about. Our next networking
event will be held on June 20th, place to be announced, but
please mark your calendar. We also invite you to join us at Eisenhower Park on June 15th for the 5K Run Walk to benefit Island Harvest. Not only is it a worthy cause but a great opportunity to rub sweaty elbows with colleagues and friends.
Finally let’s not forget our annual golf outing scheduled for June
10th. Always a great day and filled with fun and laughs. You don’t
need to be a scratch golfer to enjoy a day in the sun (god willing), 18 holes, a hot meal, and a cold drink on the 19 th. Hope to
see you there.
The Heart of Financial Planning:
The community that brings together those
who deliver financial planning, those who
support it and those who benefit from it.
