Happy Holidays and all the bets for 2015!
First of all I hope you love the winning photograph on the cover by Tom Anderson.
There were so many possible winners, but after much thought by the judges, the
beautiful image of the Finch came out on top. Next year I will create an open voting
photography competition so all of you can have a say as to who the winner should
be! I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and New Year. I’ve taken extra care to
change any regular listings that may change during the festive season, but sometimes
event hosts are unavailable to pass on changes, so please double check any events
you would like to attend surrounding the silly season to avoid disappointment! The
next issue will be released in February as usual, so make sure you don’t miss out on
submitting your February events by January 25th.What’s On office hours will resume
as normal from January 8th. This is a little later than usual as I’m getting married in
December and taking a mini break. Stay safe this silly season!

Dragons on the Tablelands
By Alan Gillanders - alanswildlifetours.com.au - 4095 3784
On the Tablelands we have a goodly number of dragon
lizards. From tiny Tommy Round-heads to the large
Eastern Waterdragon (pictured). At this time of year many
of them are laying eggs. Look for Frill-necked Lizards
on the trunks of rough barked trees in the Walkamin
Mareeba area. These lovely dragons erect their shoulder
cloak to ward off attacks by looking much bigger. In
the rainforest keep your eyes sharply peeled for Boyd’s
Forest Dragon which will hide behind the trunk of a tree if
it feels threatened. Waterdragons can be found along most
streams and lakes.

And the
winner is . . .
Earlier in the year we received an influx of entrants to the amateur
photography competition for a chance to have their image on the cover
of a What’s On issue. The response we received was sensational, but
also made our job of choosing that much harder! After a lot of thought
and consideration we’d like to congratulate
with his winning photo of a RedBrowed Finch. Despite his natural eye for capturing great images,
Tom said it has only really been in the last year he’s taken an interest
in photography, “I have always been a visual person, a bit arty, but
it was only late last year that I really started to get into photography.”
He said, “I got a new camera and love the challenge of trying to
capture the perfect shot. I think that’s why I love nature photography
- the challenge of creeping up on birds and animals to take their
photo before they run away.” The Red-Browed Finch
in the winning photo was taken in Ravenshoe
Reeds, “when I took this photo there
were lots of these little Red-Browed
Finches playing in the tall grass.
This shot was taken after I’d crept
up as close as I dared,” Tom said.
from Ravenshoe
Tom Anderson
Due to the great response to the photography contest, We’ve decided to
make it an annual competition. Thank you to all the entrants for taking the
time to submit your photographs, it’s been a great experience, we’ve loved
every one of the submissions and look forward to seeing more next year!

Can you help us reach our NY goal?
My name is Vicki McGlew and I’m writing this letter to ask for help to fundraise for my daughters need for a “Heated Treatment Spa” at
home. Chantelle is a bubbly, happy little eight-year-old and has been diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy and the need of ongoing extensive therapy
on a regular basis is of high importance. Heated hydro therapy is a major benefit for my daughter in helping her improve her quality of life.
Having a heated treatment spa available in our home would allow myself full access to perform hydro therapy daily for my daughter in her
own environment. Living in a remote area (Herberton) we have minimal access to hydro therapy that Chantelle requires to improve her
independence and wellbeing. Being a parent to a child with a disability is challenging, yet rewarding, and to ask for help has been a process
for myself to accept that I do need the help and support from he community, family and friends along our journey life has dealt. On behalf of
myself and my daughter, we sincerely thank you for your time and ask you with much appreciation to consider donating of any value to help
us reach the funds needed to have a heated spa treatment in our home for new year. Kind regards,Vicki and Miss Chantelle 0488 779 535

2015 HOROSCOPES
ARIES (March 21 to April 20) –
2015 will be productive &
generous to Arians especially
in the career and wealth area,
also, especially in the first half of
the year, home life will be happy
& peaceful, opportunities for
both wealth & travel feature
strongly with a possibility of a
new love. Your work will be
highly appreciated hence
an increase in materialistic
possessions. 2nd half features
some problems involving your
health.
Delegate/employ
others to relieve you of tiring
routine/daily
chores
while
you’re travelling so often.
Red colours, and number 4.
TAURUS (April 21 to May 20) –
In 2015 in the areas of money
and finances, career progress,
love and romance, business
expansion and growth will
flourish, but it’s vital that loyalty
and trust be strong, especially
in relationships. Trust is vital to
help your love to deepen and
grow, which, if perfected,
will lead to great things.
Taurus should self assess inner
talents, and take care not to
be judgemental, but rather
promote positive and optimistic
views on life. Really strengthen
your relationship with friends
and family this year . Blues & 7.
GEMINI (May 21 to June 21) –
Gemini are set to have a very
enjoyable and successful time
career wise throughout 2015,
especially if it involves doing
what they love.
2015 will be the perfect time
for doing something special for
those friends and family who
are closest to you, especially for
those in a romantic relationship.
The entire year is promising, but
only if there is commitment.
Financial situation will be rich
and stable, with a possible
partnership in the offering,
health is good. Enjoy this year!
Yellow colours and 5.
2015, will be a year with a lot
of celebration and delight,
definitely a year for changing
dreams into realities. Career
and business will improve and
grow fast, with promotions
very likely. Marriage is also
a possibility this year if you
put in the effort to open up
to new levels of closeness
and intimacy. Finances will
be ample, but investments in
profession and business must
be made carefully. Be cautious
of health, avoid being jealous
or upset by minor problems.
White colours and number 3.
LEO (July 23 to August 22) –
VIRGO (August 23 to Sept 22)
– A generous and supportive
year for Virgos, especially in
the significant areas of your
life. These areas
include
education, career, business,
love & relationships, wealth
& finances. However, health
will require constant care,
and expenses will have to
be watched. Romance &
marriage are likely for 2015
although, in the second half
old problems will arise, you will
need to be very firm to put a
end to it, patience & wisdom
will be required in all areas for
best outcomes. Blues & 3.
LIBRA (Sept 23 to October 22)
Overall, 2015 is certainly a
very productive & prosperous
year for Libras on all important
fronts. Progress in professional
life and business will be easily
achievable. New and bright
ideas will be encouraged.
The second half of the year
is perfect and favourable for
the blossoming of romance
& love. Health, vitality and
endurance will be strong
and high for most of the year.
Family life will remain peaceful
and happy, provided minor
misunderstandings be dealt
with carefully. Reds and 7.
SCORPIO (Oct 23 to Nov 21)
– 2015 be a good year as the
majority of planets keep you on
the safer side.
Peace will settle on your family,
most of the year. Progress in
career and business is possible,
but Scorpios must avoid being
dominating,
malicious,
or
temperamental. Love could
flourish if you remain loyal.
Only minor health issues
provided you avoid unhealthy
foods and limit alcohol. The
second part of the year is very
promising for business studies,
but make sure your heart is in it.
Yellow colours and 6.
SAGITTARIUS (Nov 22 to
Dec 21) – 2015 is a good
and
constructive year for
Sagittariuses, the second half
being even better. Matters
related with family, finances,
work, business, health, love
& romance are to be dealt
patiently, wisely, and with
a sense of humour. Many
promising opportunities will
pop up during the year to help
you achieve improvement
and growth in your career
or
business.
Relationships
which survived the hardship &
adversities of past years, will
blossom in this year. Browns & 5.
CAPRICORN
AQUARIUS (Jan 20 to Feb 18)
– Intelligent and imaginative
PISCES (February 19 to March
2015 is a mixed year for
Leo’s, the second half of the
year being better and more
creative. Leos will have to
take some big and possibly
life changing decisions in the
field of profession or business,
finances will not be an issue if
you follow your heart. Close
Family and close friends are
likely to be supportive and
happy, provided Leos keep
aside some quality time for
them. Optimism, patience,
and full control over one’s
emotions, will help to sail
smoothly through the year.
Green colours and number 1.
(December
22 to January 21) – Many
constructive and
beneficial
changes are coming up in
2015 for you to accept, some
harder than others. There is
also progress in all areas of
your life with gains in work
profession, business finances,
education, love & marriage,
especially in the first half of
the year. In the second part of
the year, personal relationships
require
considerable
care
and concern to be stable
and strong. For tying the knot,
the first half is promising. If
you’re already married, enjoy
romantic times with your
current partner. Blues and 6.
Aquarians, you will become
more
confident,
mature,
optimistic and successful in
2015. An excellent year for
starting any new business in
any desired field, with wealth
following if you are doing what
you love. If you are Married/
de facto life is most likely to
be blissful and warming. But,
love and romance will need
nurturing with honesty and
generosity, to be rich and
lasting, especially in the first
half, the second half is more
supportive. Greens and 2.
CANCER (June 22 to July 22)
20) – Progress in both the
professional and family life,
though you are likely to confront
some hassles and obstacles in
the year... However you have
hidden qualities, like being
intelligent, tolerant, adaptable,
and responsible. These traits will
certainly help you overcome
these difficulties with ease.
Finances will be sufficient to
cover all your needs, health
is good for 2015 but you must
take care of it, especially if you
are a smoker or drinker, time to
kick the habits, 2015 is the year
to start new. Purples and 5.
