Dear Parents and Carer’s,
“Welcome to Tinkerbells Thurston and thank you for showing an interest in choosing
our nursery for your child. I hope that you find Tinkerbells to be a warm and
welcoming environment that truly strives to be a ‘home from home’. I also hope that
our experienced and highly qualified Tinkerbells team leave you with a lasting
impression of their commitment, passion and dedication for providing the very best
possible care and education for each and every individual that becomes a valued
member of the Tinkerbells community.
The early years of your child's life are key to their educational, physical and social
development, and as such it's vitally important to give them the best possible
beginning. To ensure this happens, we provide well-resourced facilities and attract
and retain staff that have a thorough understanding of children and how they
develop.
It is imperative that we earn the trust and confidence of you, and we want you to be
happy with us and the way we work with your children. We pride ourselves on our
ability to instill confidence and enthusiasm in your child from an early age; with an
overall aim to help develop happy, content, children in a culture that nurtures and
values a happy childhood.
Please come and see for yourself what a loving, nurturing, and homely environment
Tinkerbells can offer you and your child by phoning or emailing the nursery manager to
arrange your personal visit!
I look forward to meeting you all soon,”
Julie
Key Person System
A key person is allocated to each child whose responsibility it is to closely
monitor your child's progress and welfare. The Key Person will help your
child to become familiar with the provision and to feel confident and safe
within the setting. The ‘key person system’ enables staff to develop a greater
bond with both the child and their parents and ensures a settled, close
relationship throughout your child’s time at Tinkerbells.
Nutrition
All of the food served at Tinkerbells is specially prepared each day by our
chef and contains no added salt or sugar. Our menus (available on our
website) encourage children to become aware of diversity, understand their
own and others cultures, meet the requirements of the curriculum,
enhance a child’s experiences of different food types and enables children
to try different types of food. We encourage parents to become more
involved by sharing recipes and we will always ensure that any special dietary
requirements are met.
Outdoor Learning
At Tinkerbells we place a great value and importance on learning outdoors.
We are ideally situated in our village surroundings to be able to offer weekly
‘Welly Walks’ and exploration of the local area. We are also extremely
fortunate to be able to offer fantastic outdoor learning spaces in our
extensive gardens which we utilize all year round.
Our gardens at Tinkerbells have been designed to become an extension of
our indoor learning environment, and as such we have designated areas
mirroring those that can be seen inside. We provide opportunities for markmaking, creative play, number work and quieter areas for children to read,
role-play and explore nature. We also have a large adventure playground,
‘Tellytubby’ hills for story-times and apparatus for adventure climbing. In
Bumblebees garden we have our very own vegetable patch that the children
love to get involved in by preparing the soil, planting fruit and vegetables
and watching them grow. The best part however is eating the fruit and
vegetables at the end of it all!
Ladybirds, Butterflies and Bumblebees
Children are placed in one of three exciting, well-resourced rooms based on
their individual age and developmental needs. It is here that they will form
friendships, learn, develop and grow, as well as have lots of fun with our
caring and nurturing team of nursery practitioners too!
When children are ready for the next step, they will enjoy a carefully
planned and organized transition between the rooms which includes plenty
of pre-visits and opportunities for children to explore their new classroom
and make new friends.
Ladybirds (3 months - 2 years)
Our baby room (Ladybirds) caters for children aged approximately 3 months
to 2 years old and comprises of four key areas including those for messy
play, softer play, eating, and a quiet zone for babies to take well-earned
naps. In addition to our lovely indoor space, children in Ladybirds Class also
have year-round access to our fabulous gardens and designated outdoor
baby area too, as well as opportunities to experience the wider community
through walks around our beautiful village.
Taking the lead from you and your baby, Tinkerbells’ staff ensure the very
best level of care. Your baby will develop a strong bond with their Key
Person so you can always talk to someone who knows all about their
individual needs. We always use your baby’s individual routines to make sure
there is a consistency between home and the nursery.
Room Leader Tracey and the rest of the Ladybirds team offer and enjoy
lots of fun activities such as painting, messy play and treasure baskets which
you will read all about in your very own baby diary each day.
Butterflies (2 years to 3 years)
Our ‘Butterflies’ room, overseen by room leader Sarah offers a safe,
stimulating and bright learning environment for our ‘toddlers’ to explore in
safely. Sarah and the team plan and implement a comprehensive range of
exciting activities based on a class topic or the changing interests of the
Butterflies children.
At Tinkerbells we encourage all children to learn through exploration and
experimentation with age appropriate toys, resources and materials or
outside in our wonderful nursery garden. Each and every child is treated as
an individual.
Your child’s key person will be responsible for sharing information with you
about your child. This information will be recorded in your child’s daily diary
and learning journey which we invite you to share with us and contribute to
its development over their time at Tinkerbells.
Bumblebees 3 years to 5 years
Our Bumblebees room led by Clare has been carefully designed and
organized to support both an easy transition from our toddler room for our
younger children, and a stimulating learning environment to promote ‘schoolreadiness’ for those approaching school age. Children are still encouraged
and supported to learn through play and exploration, however throughout
the year the team will begin to offer more and more structured
opportunities for children to access and experience each day.
When planning the day’s timetable of activities and learning environment,
our Bumblebees Pre-school team adheres closely to the statutory guidelines
outlined in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Child-led activities
and adult-focused tasks are designed to help support the progression and
development in the following areas for all Bumblebees children. We also
ensure that we have lots of fun along the way too!
