3 CHAPTER ACTIVITIES
3.1 DEVELOPMENT OF THE PLAN OF THE ACTIVITIES FOR 2014
In this meeting we development the annual plan for the activities that we were going to do, here
we decided what we were going to send on the funding request. This meeting was on the 11 of
April of 2014.
3.2 T-SHIRTS
Our first activity was making T-Shirts for all the members of The SPIE. In this activity we spent 130
$. Because we bought 11 T-shirts. This design was made by one of our members, Marvin Lazarte.
This activity was described in our funding request.
3.3 BANNER SPIE
The next Activity was made our Banner with the SPIE logo, this design was made by one of our
members, Marvin Lazarte. In this we spent 60 $. This activity was described in our funding request.
3.4 VISIT THE SCHOOL MARYKANOLL
The next activity was attempting a science fair at the school Marykanoll. Where we explained the
phenomena’s of the light, for this activity we used the SPIE KIT, then we show the students and
explain them how 3D movies work. For this activity we also work with the OSA chapter of our
university. In this activity we spend 75$ between transportation and food for the students. This
activity was described in our funding request. This activity was on 27 of July of 2014.
3.5 VISIT THE SCHOOL INSTITUO AMERICANO
The next activity was attempting the school “Instituto Americano”. Where we explained the
phenomena’s of the light, for this activity we used the SPIE KIT, then we show the students and
explain them how 3D movies work. For this activity we also work with the OSA chapter of our
university and the IEEE branch of our university. In this activity we spend 75$ between
transportation and food for the students. This activity was described in our funding request. This
activity was on 14 of November of 2014.
3.6 VISIT THE COMPANY VIVA
The next activity was attempting to one of the installations of the company VIVA. In this activity we
learn a lot about Antennas and how the telecommunications of this company works. As you can
see in the photo there is an engineer explaining us how everything works and the common
problems that you can have and how to give solutions to them. In this activity we spend 45$. This
activity was described in our founding request. This activity was on the 10 of October of 2014.
3.7 VISIT THE COMPANY COMTECO
The next activity was attempting to one of the installations of the company COMTECO. In this
activity we learn a lot about Antennas and how the telecommunications of this company works. As

3.8 CHAPTER WEBPAGE
We developed a web page but we did not need to pay for a host domain, because we talk to our
university and the university is giving us the domain. The link of the webpage is:

3.9 DEVELOPMENT OF THE RULES OF THE CHAPTER
In this meeting we development and approve the new Rules of the chapter, were we specify
elections, task, etc. this meeting was on 28 of November of the 2014.
3.10 ELECTIONS OF THE OFFICERS
The election of the officers for the 2015 were on the 5 of December of the 2014. In this meeting the
chapter elect as the new President Erick Emmanuel Escobar Gallardo, as the new Vice President Luis
Gabriel Valdez, as the new secretary Gaia Antezana del Carpio and as the new treasurer is Fabricio
Merida
4 PLANNED ACTIVITIES FOR THE FUTURE
2015 is an important year, because it is the year of Light and we as a chapter want to make it special so
we proposed and designed a list of all the planned activities we have for this year, as you may note, the
dates of the activities listed below are susceptible of change.
4.1 ROADSHOW
In the image we can see a calendar for the upcoming activities for this year, we plan to begin with the
ROADSHOW activity that will be the recruitment one, with the help of the university we will show the
students about the chapter and the SPIE and what our goal is. The ROADSHOW will be held in the
university UPB at 10 am on April 10. We are participating there with the help of the IEEE student branch.
A ROADSHOW is an event that help and show new students about the organization and student chapters
that the University is listed in. It is aimed to the students of 1rs/2nd semester of engineering.
With this activity we want to expand our chapter with more help that will be needed for the rest of the
activities for this year.
4.2 SEMINAR YEAR OF LIGHT
2015 is a special year for optics, because it celebrates the International Year of light. With this in mind, it
is proposed the organization of a seminar at the departmental level on the topics of optics and photonics,
celebrating the year of the light.
The aim of this is to bring together experts and individuals involved in the field of photonics nationwide
to share their work, research and papers.
The organization of this event will be combined with the OSA and the Bolivian Private University, the event
would be planned for the second half of 2015 and would be the first national event on Optics and
Photonics.
The central idea of this event is to open a chain of conferences to be made in subsequent years.
4.3 0PTICS 4 KIDS
Optic's 4 kids is an activity performed in the premises of the UPB inviting children from different schools
to participate in various activities. Here, students participate in workshops, demonstrations and
scientific talks designed exclusively for them, in order that through active learning techniques, achieve
understanding the phenomena of optics and physics and its applications in daily life.
4.4 OPTICS DAY
The Optics Day is a day where we invite students who do not belong to the Chapter to integrate,
showing our research and advantages we enjoy because we belong to international institutions such as
the SPIE.
This day will also be focused to show the university in general, the projects done so far, progress and
achievements of the student chapter.
This activity will serve as a recruitment and as a tool to let us know within the whole university with our
activities.
4.5 SCHOOL VISITS
We have planned 4 schools visits this year, in commemoration of the year of the light, we choose the
following schools:

The main goal of this visits is to teach school students about the optics and fotonics, we reach this goal
by showing light experiments with the help of the optics kit we were given by the SPIE
4.6 PIZZA PARTY
Pizza Party is an activity performed at the end of 2015 in order to celebrate the success of the activities
during the year. By this recreational activity we seek to achieve integration between members of the
student chapter.
5 FINANCIAL INFORMATION
The initial balance is 480$ because the cost of the transfer of the 500 $ that we received from the funding
request is 20$.
In this table we can see were exactly the money was spend. Firs we spend 130 $ for the T-shirts of our
members, then we spend 60 $ in the Banner of our Chapter. This activities were described as publicity in
the funding request.
Then we visit the School “Marykanoll” and the School “Instituto Americano”. Between the food for the
kids, the teachers that were present and the transportation of the members of the chapter we spend
75$ in each school, so we spend 150 $, the things that was not described in the funding request is that we
were going to attempt with the OSA chapter and IEEE branch of our university, but this helped a lot in the
activities because we were able to show even more experiments to the kids and they were delightful. And
from now on, we believe that we will be working along the OSA chapter and the IEE branch.
Then we visit the company VIVA and the Company COMTECO, as we can see the price of transportation
rise, this is because the places that we visit was far away from the city. This activities were described as
publicity in the funding request.
And we also had one activity that was described as a webpage for our chapter, as you can see we did not
spend money on this activity, because we were able to talk to our university so that the university can
give us the host domain. And thanks to this we were able to do the activities mentioned before twice,
when it was planned to visit one school and one company. Therefore we have an ending balance of 50$
