Newsletter - Term 1 - Week 4 - 19th February, 2010
Dear Parents,
Included in our Opening School Mass last Friday was the installation of our School Captains and Student
Council for 2010. They recited their pledge of loyalty to the school in front of eight hundred students.
Supporting them were their family members who were present to witness the event and see them receive
their badges and be applauded by all present at this Mass in the church. Appropriately we had our School
Captains and Student Council for 2009 pin the badge of office on our 2010 recipients. We all adjourned for
morning tea following the ceremony.

Solar Panels/Installed
We are nearing completion of the installation of our solar units and water tanks. On top of our Year 1
buildings the solar panels have been installed. The power generated from the panels supplies electricity
to all Year 1 and Year 2 classrooms. Once the water tank is installed the water collected will be used to
flush the Infants toilets installed in these new buildings. We are thankful to the Commonwealth for the
$55,000 which has paid for this project.
Diocesan Library Borrowing for 2009 Winner
We were pleased to be informed last week that St. Andrew’s was awarded the honour of the top book
borrowing school in 2009. There are 55 Primary Schools in the Diocese and we were the top school. Our
figures were 82,143 books borrowed in 2009 . Well done all!
With every best wish

Online Training Module—Child Protection for Volunteers
We have so many wonderful parents who help us with
reading groups, excursions at St. Andrews etc the CEO
have now changed the way parents do the Volunteer
Training Programme. Below are these instructions. If
you need help please see Mr. McGuiness or Miss
McDonald.
The online training module is a system requirement
that child protection training be completed by all volunteers commencing work in our schools and a briefing
be held every second year for existing volunteers.
An online training module for use by volunteers is now
available. After successfully completing the module, an
email notification will be sent automatically to the volunteer’s email address and to the school email address. The email is a confirmation that the training has
been successfully completed by the volunteer.
Child Protection for Volunteers may be accessed via

Student Banking
Commenced: Monday 1st February 2010
School Student Banking is a great way to teach children how to save for their future or for that something
special they may want to buy. No amount is too small.
If your child already has a Commonwealth Bank Dollarmite or Youthsaver account they can start banking
straight away. If not, you can pick up the forms from
the School Office and once they have been completed
they need to be returned to the school office.
The children hand their bank books to their teacher on
a Monday morning and the bank books get sent to the
office in the bank bags. After processing they will be
returned to the class by the end of the day.

Canteen News
In recent weeks we have been flooded by children
coming to the canteen saying they have no recess or
lunch.
The school procedure is:When unpacking their bags at 9:00am and a child
discovers they have no food, they will be directed to
go to the office where the office staff will ring parents
to come to some arrangement about food for their
children. If parents are working and unable to get to
the school each child will be given an order form
which they will take to the canteen and will be provided with food for the day. This form comes home to
parents who will be asked to pay the canteen for the
food provided.
If, however, a child on eating time discovers they
don’t have lunch they will be provided with 2 options.
1.
A vegemite sandwich or
2.
A jam sandwich
A note will go home to parents informing them that
the canteen supplied a sandwich and the cost.
